W126 Mercedes Doors Won't Shut! - Replace Your Door Strikers!

  • A recent family trip in the Mercedes-Benz SD 300 made us painfully aware that the door strikers on this car were shot. The doors would not shut unless they were slammed. This issue is the result of deteriorated rubber components within the striker. In this video I will show you how to fix this problem in a cost effective way while retaining the originality of your Mercedes-Benz.

    So glad to have found your channel! You by far than any other UA-camr, explained and filmed exactly to the detail, the entire process on how to replace these strikers, all the while keeping the integrity of the original parts. You made it look so easy. I sure hope I have just as much luck. But hey, after watching this and learning from you. I know I will. Thank you again.

    Per Mercedes the correct torque for the bolts is 14-17 Newton Meters (N-m). Loved this video. I want my beloved 81 300 SDs doors to once again close like a refrigerator door!

    Thanks for the video, as I never really looked at how strikers work and this video made me do it. The see saw of the door lock, with the pointy pin that goes into the stricker and the raised "door side" part of the saw is up, and pushed down as the pin enters the stricker, and the metal goes in through the hole at the bottom back of the stricker. The otehr replacements available off ebay are a good price

    I see your interior has leather, and in great condition. That's very cool. Most 300SD's didn't come with leather, they came with MB-Tex as standard. Leather was a very expensive option.
    Note: You should make sure to change your differential mount. This makes the biggest difference for rear ride height.

    From Germany: Your left backdoor has to be adjusted a little bit upwards by 0,12 in. You will see what difference it makes.

      Hi, how did you notice that his door needs to be adjusted? I've got the same car and want to make these little changes to mine, so all the doors close without problems. Is there any guide on how to read the lines and make the adjustments? Second question: When I bought the car, the previous owner told me he made an oopsie the first day he bought it. He stopped at the gas station opened the driver side door and the car rolled backwards. My driver side door atm is almost 1cm lower than the others.
      Thanks!

      @@salexcho3 Because the door fold is not in line...and that was perfect when it was manufactured..maybe someone leaned over the door so it bended a bit.

      How do you adjust these doors alignment? My w123 coupe has a slight misalignment. Hinges have never been touched and are in great shape.

    • @ImpalamansGarage
      @ImpalamansGarage  4 роки тому

      @@salexcho3 An adjustment like that is typically accomplished with shims. You would place a shim between the bottom hinge plate and the door in order to raise the rear of the door.

    I'm very excited to fix all 4 of my doors! Is the plastic part you replaced symmetrical? Or can I buy right sides and use them for the left? The reason I ask is that everyone seems to be out of left hand units at present.

    It doesn't look like the original MB part had a metal sleave in the rubber part, or were they blackened?

    • @ImpalamansGarage
      @ImpalamansGarage  4 роки тому

      The rubber bits inside are not Mercedes but they do have the metal inserts. They work fine. I bought the whole striker form Meyle and removed the inside and placed it inside the original Mercedes metal from the car. I threw away the Meyle metal part.

    So you know Meyle IS German, and Mercedes supply these. Many parts aren't made by Mercedes, but by their suppliers like Bosch, Meyle, Bilstein, etc...

      Yes I have ordered their products before. You need to be careful however as they tend to obtain parts from lesser quality factories around the world. Just my opinion. No matter what parts you buy you need to take a look at where that part is made before you purchase. It is of course, personal choice.

    You could remove and install it back in easy way. First of all you had to remove the white metallic P lock from inside, and then remove the black rezin block. The way you removed the block also not the easiest, better to remove it to side.

      I can understand that for sure. The reason why I put the after market rubber bits into the original steel part was to keep it as stock as I could and because complete strikers from Mercedes are around $500 for all four.
