Absolutely agree on all points. The manual is confusing, and misleading in parts. The ball cups were a nightmare to put together, and now I’m left with messed up steering. My honest opinion is that with direct drive steering you lose all your Ackerman, and bump steer is horrible. I personally would not reccomend this car.
I’m glad you agree and other people have seen the flaws in this terrible kit. It’s definitely not a good car especially for beginners like they marketed it for and rather than acknowledging their flaws they continue to defend this garbage car, not a company I’d want to support. The stock alignment has been documented to be lacking for sure. Redcat has even come out with alternate alignment specs. I would have been curious what you would have thought with those specs. That way you could have felt more of the potential instead of just calling it atrocious and goofy. The cool part - it does accept so many of the common aftermarket parts - as you are already showing. Love your bumpers BTW!
I mean looking at it from a perspective of someone who would choose this over an RDX and yes the steering is bad, it’s mostly due to the ball cups, they are really bad and for someone to build out of the box with a bad alignment will give people a bad first experience with rwd drifting, and it’s an honest review. The RDX needs none of those things out of the box and absolutely destroys this thing on track. So honestly for a beginner, I think their money would be better spent for a better experience with the RDX, the kit went together so much better than the RDS. But yes the RDS can definitely be improved with yokomo parts, as I’m currently working on.

I get it, it’s a first gen, and we know redcat likes to release lots of models so hopefully an aftermarket opens up for it and it will be improved with constructive feedback. I want to see you build and drive an RDX because it really is that much better than the RDS, the design and functionality of that chassis is amazing and the driving experience immediately instills confidence where with the RDS, I felt like I had to drive super mellow and couldn’t be anywhere near as aggressive.

Who makes that body? Did you have to make any adjustments to make it fit?
Yokomo a90, every body fits a little differently so there is always a little customization involved.
what tire compound are you using to drift outside?
Those were the stock RDS tires
