I get chills every time I watch it, and lately.. i watch it everyday
I just came across this a few days ago. I can't get enough. Lol
I'm watching all the reactions now.
Chad Smith is so musically talented and knowledgeable. Amazing.
If this is real.. it's incredible... But I just can't see him hitting all the fills so accurately... It's flawless.. n I play the drums.. not as good as anyone in a real band but to hit everything the way he did.. it's incredibly hard ... N harder to believe... But if it's real.. even more impressive that he did it so accurately.. but the two genres drum beats are not even close... His drumming for the peppers is great but not as complex as that song.. in my opinion.. could be wrong but I can play a lot of the peppers songs close if not spot on.. but I definitely would have trouble w this song.. like I said .. I'm not a pro tho
The intro without drums actually sounded good. Chad came in at the right time.
It's amazing how well he does without even listening to the entire drumless track all the way through at least once.
Dude is so conditioned to be a rock drummer, I’m sure he’s heard more than enough music to be able to predict changes in songs so he already knows what to play before the change even happens.
It's an absolute lie when he says he hasn't heard this, but that's okay, he killed it. Most people have heard this, even if you don't listen to rock.
@@CheriTheBery I'd never heard it before his video. Never even heard of the band. Emo crap is not my style.
@@mjeh1 Okay buddy, I said most. He even knew the band members and doesn't know their biggest song? 😂 Believe what you want man. Over 500 million streams on Spotify so go figure.
@@CheriTheBery I don't see why he would lie but I'm sure your opinion counts more than the man's word right?
Bro, Chad is sick sick I got to do a dueling drum solo with him when I was studying under Roger Humphreys, he is the most improvisational drummer I’ve ever met in my life. He kills it every time. He will destroy drumsticks, brake heads, and hit it hard every fucking time he’s the guy that will stand in and you want to replace your drummer
Holy shit you actually got to duel this man on the kit? I would like to see some of your drum stuff one day 😄 bet that was quite the experience
he even breaks a stick during this
Glad to see a reactor be familiar with this series. It's wild that he listened to 30 seconds of the song and crushed without hearing multiple runs of the drumless track and/or taking notes etc. This was a magical moment. Great reaction!
If traditional musicians can sight read to technical near perfection, then a 30+ year old professional drummer can listen and figure out the rhythm
Hes waaaaaay older than 30. Hell, RHCP is almost 40
I meant 30+ years in terms of how long he's been a professional musician. But yes, RHCP is almost 40.
Especially when it comes to the structure of a radio friendly song. They all pretty much have the same feel to make it more appearances and “familiar” to more people.
10:38 dang that added drum fill before the drop makes it more epic. I like that
everything about this is incredible but my favorite thing is his passion for music! dude had a blast even going outside his comfort zone a bit! what a legend
To be fair to Chad, I'd never heard the song before I watched the Drumeo video either. Now I would throw gobs of money at the person who gets me a clean recording of that track with Chad's drumline. No offence intended to Shannon, who is a sick drummer in his own right, but this was a special take.
I also had never heard it before this, not even a single 30 seconds to Mars song. I knew of the band, just never checked them out
Good job honestly! That means you don’t listen to generic radio shit…. Or shop at target 😅😅
Same, but I'm 52, my wife is 33 and she knew the words...so
@@josephhertzberg2734nice flex😂
@@ShaunHensley hahaha...
To answer you question about time signature : It's in 4/4 with a Triplet subdivision i.e. 4 big beats in a measure and each beat is divided by 3. When he says it's in 3, he's talking about how the beat is divided.
Love hearing the reaction from a musicians POV . Thanks for the video!
Aye thank you! I’m not an advanced drummer but I’ve been writing music on guitar and producing it for many years now so I hope I don’t stupid during these videos 😅
One thing i noticed Chad from the rest of the drummers in Drumeo is that Chad hits significantly harder than the rest.
I remember when 30 seconds to mars were big. Never heard this song. I don't know why it's so surprising to people that others haven't heard a song. Just because you like it and you listen to it doesn't mean others do
It’s because it’s a typical rock song that comes out in movies, tv shows, and basically any hot topic or bar in the world. I mean it’s just a very common rock song is all
Don't listen to the haters.
I absolutely love music and watching people's reactions the first time they hear a song I love. I enjoy the commentary and points made that I've also always thought or never thought of.
Keep doing you. You've got a new subscriber.
Oh my his timing is most excellent he has achieved God level status...
Glad you had a good response to the "but it's on the radio all the time" comments I've seen on several other reactions - I haven't listened to the radio in YEARS, the only time I ever hear new music is the stuff that comes on when I'm at work since I work at a restaurant and they play music over the speakers, but yeah I almost never hear new stuff unless I seek it out, so it's not crazy that someone who's played music for decades would just listen to what he already knows and likes
You can do things like this when you tour and practice with John Frusciante and Flea for decades. They do a lot improvising and jamming .
This is what four decades of chops sounds like.
33 seconds in and he nails it with perfection
Such a Humble good dude.
Chad Smith is so Awesome, I love his Drumming and Personality.
THE FULL SEND LEGEND!!
I fucking nailed it…. Classic
This guy is a legend.
God tier drummer
Great video man, new to your channel good stuff
Thank you 🙏 that really means a lot 😁 I hope you stick around for more cuz I got a lot of plans for the new future outside of reactions.
I NEED a studio recorded version of this. It is way better than the original.
Come on….. he’s right: he’s ALMOST flawlessly improvising on a song whose genre he’s familiar with and it’s evident that he’s even liking it; guys: music is hearth not faith…. Side note: it is clear that he’s listening to the song and then reacting to it, so even more credits to him ❤
One of the most underrated drummers ever. This was amazing
i mean.. he's widely accepted as one of the greaterst drummers ever, not sure in what settings he's underrated.
I know you kept saying it's not too far off from the genre he usually plays. But in music it doesn't matter, if you know music you can pretty much play along to anything. Hence why he said once I knew it was in 3 he knew he could jamnout to it.
Chad Nailed it. By the way the snare sounds perfect.
the whole drumset sounds perfect
Time signatures are how many beats there are per measure. The Kill is in 3/4, meaning 3 beats per measure. The 4 is the length of the note you're counting, in this case a quarter note. Another neat thing you'll notice is that most musical phrases are 4 measures long, and usually repeat an even number of times. If you know the time signature you can basically predict the entire song structure 99% of the time.
Chads musical IQ is off the charts
Bro, for real, there are enough people still listening to the radio! Dont blame them!
The only time I listen to the radio is like at target or some shit 😂
This Guy is skyrocketing on youtube everywhere
Chad smith? I think he’s skyrocketed way outta UA-cam 😅
He plays with John Frusciante and has to play on draft songs or ideas from him so he's prepared for anything!
The guy that played Metallica was pretty close too
oh, same for the one that played Nirvana
I think he focused on the vocals and played along with that. It sounds more like he is following Jared rather than the guitars.
If it’s not too far from the genre he plays then you probably don’t know what the genre is actually.
Wasn't Chad with Pearl before, I seem to remember an announcement a few years ago that he was switching, am I wrong?
Idiot it’s old news. He switched in 2016
Nothing like the Chili Peppers
"This isnt too far from the genre he already plays" all your opinions on music became void at that very moment🤡
They did one with Dirk from Megadeth...The Killers Mr. Brightside. Amazing too.
Yeah I have a more recent video for that one too 😁
@@ArturoReacts They're both insane. I've watched those 2 videos probably 30 times each.
Gg bro from argentina!! I love your reactions. i would love to see You react to "perdonado niño condenado" from LA Spinnetta 2008 recital las bandas eternas". Have a great day
Who the hell watches a whole video you make and then tells you to get a job 😂😂 Pretty sure only one person in this equation was working, and it wasn’t the commenter.
😂😂 someone who hates their job. Like those 50 yr olds who still work at McDonald’s 😢
What he means by in 3 is the rhythm. 123 123 123 123
It's in 3/4 haha
You should listen actually really listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers before saying it’s the same as 30 seconds to mars. That is disrespectful.
Yikes lol yeah that was a pretty cringy take on RHCP vs 30 secs to Mars.
@@Cados52 to be fair he said "not too far off"... because its one of the closest genres compared to other stuff they could of challenged him with... like metal, thrash, folk, etc..
They have both been categorised under alternative rock, while they have both delved into other genres with some of their different songs they aren't too far off each other, I'm a big fan of both of them
I’m not saying the bands are the same 😅 I’m saying the style of drum playing is somewhat similar. Looking more into chad’s work though he is somewhat of a jack of all trades. I haven’t seen him play any double bass stuff or really any metal but he can get down with pretty much anything else.
He’s not jack of all trades. His level is just drum god, he needs miliseconds to pick up the right groove, readjusting and just nailed it. He didnt need to take down song structure whatever. Not saying u disrespect his level but its what my though on his real level

He is a pretty tough guy to prep for. He's covered most genre's in his career. Perhaps, reggae might have been an option. I've heard him say that he struggles a bit with some of that.
Its nothing like the genre he plays 🤣🤣🤣
so do you actually have a vid of you playing drums?
Maybe
Hey man, don't listen to the comments about "leeching off other people's work" and all that bs... Reactions are a whole separate genre, watching reactions feels like sharing the experience with friends, seeing other people enjoy the same things as you do. Completely deferent feeling from re-watching just the original on its own. Speaking for myself here, but I can only watch the original a couple of times and then it gets kinda boring 'cause I already know all the twists and turns. Rewatching it with youtube reactors, on the other hand, makes it interesting all over again. So, if anything, you're doing a service to the original creators by making people watch their stuff more than they probably would on their own :) Hope it makes sense
One thing I’ve learned recently is to just tune these people out. Let them fall off as I make content I enjoy making for the people that also enjoy it.
That’s pretty much my mindset on it btw, I kinda wanna use the video to make a discussion and for people share that “first time watching/listening” experience again. I’m glad there’s people out there like you that share the understanding of what we are doing.
Plus I TRY to react to unknown bands and other content creators to get more eyes on their work…. But no one cares about that content and no one watches 😅😅😅
Wait, 30 Seconds to Mars is close to RHCP? HUH?
“This is the same genre”. Have you ever listened to Chili Peppers man?
Saying 30 Seconds to Mars isn't too far away from what he plays is just dumb...
Exactly, chad even said it was some emo shit.
chad and red hot chilli peppers is more rap rock /funk metal
Lol, someone is wound too tight…
Damn, y’all are brutal, just be kind y’all. It ain’t hard.
It was 6/8 but that is basically 2 groups of 3. So in 3's is technically correct.
Hey thanks for that. Tbh I know what it means…. But I also don’t know what it means 😅
Jared Leto says it's in 3
Some say 3/4 and others 6/8. There's even people who say it's 12/8.
pelao hazla mas corta Chad la rompioooooooooooooooo wn
Watch mega deth's drummer play Mr brightside
I did! He also did an amazing job and that video is up on the channel.
Where's the reaction?
suena mejor que el original
Chilli peppers and 30STM are not the same 😅 but I also didn't believe he had never heard that song 😂
I find it crazy that ppl think that. It's very easy to think with the schedule he has especially back then and the last time that song was heavily played because I hadn't heard it in years. Plus he is probably not chronically online like the rest of us.
@@jaycehoward2771 Agree. A lot of touring musicians they don't listen to the radio or other people's music. He may have heard it in passing but really didn't think about it too much. Probably didn't even know it was 30STM.
what do you mean not too far away from the genre he plays lol?
Idk why everybody thinks Chad Smith MUST have heard the 30 Seconds To Mars song before just because it was all over radio and stuff. Not everyone listens to radio, especially in these modern times where we can make our own playlists. I mean, I love music but I can't tell you the last time I actually listened to a radio station. It's been YEARS. Possibly a decade. And despite the fact that I grew up on metal, punk, and all kinds of other music, 30 Seconds to Mars isn't a band I've ever been interested enough to check out. For me, I think I dismissed them initially as an actor's vanity project and then, once I heard a bit of one song in passing, it just wasn't anything I was interested in. They sounded (to me) like 100 other bands that were popular at the time and, tbh, I found the genre boring (with a very few exceptions). Still do.
Also, Chad Smith has a LOT going on in his life. In addition to RHCP, dude does lots and lots of session work. He's probably not sitting around listening to every track that gets popular. In fact, many people don't and literally no one knows every song in every genre. There are plenty of very popular bands and songs that never land on people's radar.
That being said, it's always possible you hear a popular song in the background while you're at a restaurant or riding in someone's car, but that doesn't mean you listen to it or that any of it sticks in your mind after the song's over. If you're not interested in the song and are not really listening to it, it's just musical wallpaper.
I think what you're actually seeing and hearing in this video is just an arena-level pro with 40+ years of experience who, at this point, just instinctively knows how music works and where a song is probably going to go.
These two bands are def not in the same genre lol
Faraway from what hes played
I've watched about 2 dozen reacts of this.... I'm slowly coming to think that Chad is either autistic or he's already familiar with the song... I mean, at the outset, they said "Tell us if you've heard it before" and he's like "Heck no, if I know it I'm gonna deny it...".... I'd like to think it's legit.... He's obviously skilled.... still..... Anyways, thanks for the video. Ignore the haters.
I honestly don't get why this guy got all that hype for playing this song on the drums.
He claims "it's the first time" his hearing the song, which makes no sense what so ever...to me.
So chad is a drummer in a rock band. So why in earth wouldn't of heard the song from 30s to Mars before. Aren't they the same genre? Rock???
I dont mind the song but even I remember hearing that song play 500 times when it first came out. Then I've heard it several other times here and there since.
Thats like me been in formula 1 and not knowing who michael schumacher is.
It's a newer band, and he's an older drummer.
Your formula 1 race car analogy doesn’t make any sense because he knows the band, just not the song. Also, it’s not so unbelievable for a musician to not know a song. The guy is from a different time and just like any other person, he has preferences so although he knows the band, doesn’t necessarily mean he listens to all their songs.
Not that unbelievable. My classical music teacher couldn't name a single Beatles song.
i grew up listening to the radio back in the late 00s and early 10s, but if you asked me to name a single song by the chainsmokers, halsey, the weeknd, cardi b, twenty one pilots, john legend... i would simply be unable to. and i have nicki minaj, lady gaga, p!atd, lizzo, kesha rose, and marina and the diamonds on my playlist because that's what i *was* listening to at the time. i'm not saying that my taste is anything but top 40s garbage. what i'm saying is that my taste *is* top 40s garbage and i still missed out on a lot of top 40s garbage. these things happen, are possible, and happen every day. you just know so little about music that a little bit of jazz improv seems impossible to you. the world is a very exciting place when you *do* understand what's possible, and this attitude is keeping you from seeing it.
Same genre??! You obviously don’t know Chad Smith’s drumming, smh. Not even remotely similar.
