    Invest in a craftsman small router table, with a round over bit, then belt sander, then mouse or orbital sanding. Fast and very uniform rounding, necks I build are very close to factory mass manufacturing quality.

      Thanks Fokker313, I have all that, this video was showing how you can shape a neck if you don't have all the good stuff lol

    Your Neck looks Great Michael get your self a Shinto saw Rasp and you can do what you did with your file in 1/4 of the time . I love mine . Thanks for another great lesson.

    I prefer to use a router table first if I can (usually) but I always prefer to start the rounding procedure first with a small spoke shave. (you can find them at flea markets dirt cheap!) then finish up the details with a fine file and sand paper. Makes it easier on my slowly but surely aging joints in my hands!

      Thank you john, Good ideas. I was showing a way to shape a neck with the very basic of tools for the new builder. I have since posted a new video on building a CBG neck. ua-cam.com/video/e3UomvKCsdQ/v-deo.html

    I need to get a vise! It would make my shaping the neck so much easier. I use a Shinto rasp first then switch to my files. I see your Dumor chicken feed in the background 😉. How have the “girls” settled in?

    • @SouthernFireGuitars
      @SouthernFireGuitars  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, that vise is a "got to have tool" I use for lots of things, great for necks too. The chickens are doing great, nine hens one HUGE rooster. We're getting lots of fresh eggs and of course non stop CROWING. You can hear it in almost every video I do LOL

      In the absence of a vise, I have been clamping the neck to my folding work table. I am really wanting to build a proper work bench!

    I'm trying not to be rude,I start with a 1/2" round over bit an use,, a router,then a sander an maybe files,,lol,,we don't have all day,,aka must be back inn the semi inn 34 hrs,dang dang,work

      There are many ways to skin a cat, my friend. That's how I do it, when I want a more round neck profile. To me the neck feels better than using my 1/2'' round over bit. Plus I happen to have all day, that day. LOL

      We all have our own methods and only the end result is what matters, Michael does beautiful work and i am so glad he takes the time to make videos to help others out. i hope to follow in his foot steps soon.

    Love you videos...I’m a bit confused on scarf joint neck...not so much the joint but the angle messes with me when notching our the head stock for the tuners....do you have a video showing that....thanks

    • @SouthernFireGuitars
      @SouthernFireGuitars  4 роки тому

      Thanks so much for watching. I do have this video, ua-cam.com/video/duIg9C6s950/v-deo.html , after gluing the scarf joint, I will then remove about 1/8 inch from the top using a router to make enough room for my tuners.
