- The big question - do you install the neck flat or with a neck angle? There are lots of opinions, but here's the take from the workshop of Chickenbone John Guitars. There's no right or wrong way, but just watch this to see some of the thinking behind how we do it. We point out the basics and the pitfalls to avoid. There's some special drawings to show the EXACT relationship between neck, body, strings and bridge, and our take on two classic ways of fitting a guitar neck to an electric guitar body - Fender vs Gibson technique.

Very informational. Thanks!
You're welcome!
This was really helpful, thanks!
Thanks for the video 😎
Fantastic detailed illustration! Thank you so much. That is one sweet looking guitar, especially the headstock. Please Chickenbone, please, do a detailed video on getting a headstock like that. I struggle so much with scarf joints but really looks cool. But you are one cool dude anyway.
Excellent explanation. Thank you.
That is one sweet looking guitar ! Lots of details, looks pretty high end.
Great video John, I wish I'd seen this a while ago, I've made a few wall hangers but trial and error has lead me to a good setup now. Thanks buddy, keep up the good work, Davy
Great comprehensive guide John. It's not magic it's geometry!
I had been wondering, just today, about the importance of head stock angle, or totally flat head stocks etc. Thank you for this very informative video. I have been working with my Ebay bought cut recently. It is a 3 string one with a piezzo pickup and an angled neck. I'm an old 6 string guitar hack myself. There is another type of cbg setup out there. C. B. Gitty makes two kits that look about identical. One is called the Pure and Simple kit, the other is the Big Easy. Both use basically a straight piece of 1x2 for a neck. The neck is sitting on the top of the cigar box, secured with two screws, and the necks overhang the box at the bridge end. These are both fretless and come with no pickup, and use a wooden free floating bridge. A gent on UA-cam built two of these. One, he added two "fender" washers to the two screws holding the neck to the box, and that one turned out much louder than the other. Both were certainly playable and sounded good, and these are predrilled, so seem like even I could put one of these together.
Any thoughts on this type of setup on a cbg?
Explained very well, thank you. Beautiful guitar neck on that CBG.
Great explanation of the importance of geometry. Geometry is everything! This is especially critical to the guitar player more than the guitar builder because the player has all eyes on them regardless of how well the guitar is made.
Thank you for this lesson, very insightful.
thank you for the information.
Interesting discussion of how to detail regarding neck angle and string height/action
Thanks for the video, answered most of my questions for ny first build! Great builds btw!
HEY CICKENBONE ! hope you're doin' well, Sir...
Excellent video.
Very helpful. Ty, John.
Fantastic
Muy buena information 👍
Excellwnt, well done. Thank you.
Spot. On.
At 5:45 you mention screw adjustment. What type of a screw do you use and how? Thank you.
Good video! Fender is a tougher touring guitar for sure, because of its design and Gibson neck break is excepted but should have been considered a design fault. That said I have both but prefer cigar box guitars now lol. Dog ear pickups want angled neck tho so if people want those nickle plated p90 dogear then they will find an angled neck accomadates them. That's a rub.
Thanks

Супер! Отличный породистый инструмент!
Just curious, what is the spacing between the strings off center string?
Typically 13mm string to string at the bridge, 11mm at the nut.
@@ChickenboneJohn ok, I’m around 9-10 off center
