The science says that bass eyes can only see a specific spectrum of colors, and that white/chartreuse are identical to them.
That being said, both end up appearing white to the bass and it's likely just a matter of visibility. Sometimes having something super visible to them is going to draw them in when they're aggressive, or put them off when they're apprehensive.
Most anglers would agree that sometimes in super clear water, you can't get away with white on a slow moving bait.

I live in WA and the only shad are in the Columbia. However, I catch fish on shad colors all the time. Some lakes have no crawfish, but craw colors work too.
I have confidence in throwing white/black/green in general. Like you I think you can over collect variations on every color. Thanks for the video Debo!
I am convinced that white and or white chartuce catch me more fish than any other color. Red variant is the next color in the line up.

Yes, I do. White kills on my lake, bull gill types, crappie, and catfish.
I like green pumpkin shad. Seems like I catch more fish with a green a whit trailer than a green pumpkin one tho
This is interesting. This happened to me today. Was using bluegill flash swing impact. Live in Illinois fish retention ponds. My fishing buddy puts on the pearl white mayor by crush city. He caught just as many as I did. Damn.

Been bass fishing for 4 years and still haven’t gotten a chatterbait fish. Started out throwing the OG but this year started throwing the jackhammer n mini max and still nothing.

Honestly that color combo can also be a light sunfish color. Thing about sunfish is some are dark some are light with white on them lol.

Yeah, people put too much into lure colors imo. They'll hit just about anything. You can catch them on a stick with hooks.
It is probably a new fisherman asking that question causes if you fish longer than a season you will know white works in every body of water.
This is a very helpful video and I appreciate the topic. I fully agree that color choice is overrated and yet I still find myself gravitating to certain colors 🤣. I akso appreciate and liked some of the overlays/edits on this video!

When I was learning more about fishing it was a lot about matching the hatch. As a result I've not used white at all and when I have it hasn't produced so my faith in it is pretty low.

I agree that bass are just reacting out of instinct! They may not recognize it but they're still going to try to eat it... Color sometimes may matter but what you have the most confidence is usually what will catch bass for you!
I’ve found that bass will eat things that are totally foreign to them as often as they will a bait that “matches the hatch.” If you trigger that feeding response, they’ll try to kill whatever you’re speeding past their face.

I once asked Roland Martin, what is the best color spinnerbait to use. His response was any color as long as it is white. Nice to see Fidel has left the building

I’ve been trying to throw white more often, it’s never been a confidence color for me.
If someone were trying to catch me with bait and was going to "match the hatch" they would throw Hamburg Helper. That said, if they chucked a crab cake iinstead, I would be more likely to eat that.
They love white! And shartruse is white to fish also!
We get no shad at all, or blue gill, bass or pike. Yet those colours and some others that do not exist in nature all catch fish on our Aussie lakes and rivers.

I don't fish colors based on what they should do or be but based on how I'm feeling.
As long as it is a SHAD type color aka white, you will get bite.

I’ve been throwing a lot of shad patterns this spring. Swimbaits, jigs, spinners, dropshot 🙄. It’s been my most successful lure color so far.
Definitely do. That’s a fun day of fishing. …. That’s why I like to tie dark green pumpkin tab with a ghost minnow tabbed skirt. Then I’ll use a white trailer or a blue gill typed color trailer …. I picked up the Cashion icon multi purpose which is a 7’4” at a steal of a sale price. At first I was intimidated because up to that purchase I primarily used 6’8”-7’0” rods. I completely agree about the extra leverage not to mention it makes some side arm casts easier because the rod extends farther out past the bushes I’m standing next too. I liked it so much I just purchased a 7’3” MH/F to try for jigs.
My favorite combo Debo, Jackhammer with a Spunk Shad. I can't believe you didn't go swimming for that $16 dollar Jackhammer ! Another great video for us, thank you.
Best thing to throw. We dont have shad in most of our rivers where I am from but those colors get bit all the time. Confidence colors for me!!
Very excite!!! Love me some chatterbaits. The Spunk Shads have become my go-to trailer. Shad colors are something I should throw more often but find myself going natural way to often.
White can also mimic silver shiners too especially if you use a silver blade

Just cannot generate any success on the Chatterbait. Catching lots with finessey/hover strolling type techniques fishing the banks, even with the vegetation down here in South Florida. Doesn't help either when you lose 3 or 4 $16 Jackhammers in a day!
Same, been 4 years n still no chatterbait fish. Used the OG, then the jackhammer and these past 2 months the mini max and still nothing 😂

I live in northeast NY and none of our lakes have shad. The primary forage is bluegill and yellow perch. We do have limited crappie and Champlain has white perch. That being said I use white all the time and they smash it. The action is WAY more important than color. I think the shade of the color is more important vs a specific color pattern so the fish can see it. We have a lot of tannic water so Junebug and any purple color works amazing. There isn’t a single thing that’s purple in the water of the Adirondacks 😂
