M Night Shyamalan surprised the world with SPLIT a few years ago, a film that essentially pointed a camera at James McAvoy and let him go absolutely nuts. With the movie being a secret sequel to Unbreakable, fans got super excited when a third movie, Glass was announced. So before checking out that new movie, we thought we'd take a look back at the split-personality thriller, and all the questions it raises. Like what's up with Dennis’s poor planning skills? Or Barry's lack of typing skills? Or Doctor Fletcher being a huge exposition machine?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to SPLIT! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience!

I mean, that's all set up, though. There's the part where Dr. Exposition explains that one personality can be allergic to something and another is not, meaning their bodies change along with their mind. And she theorizes that people with DID have actually 'evolved' into superhumans. The movie seems to treat DID as a superpower. So - yeah, the Beast has bulletproof skin and can bend steel bars with his bare hands. That's the point.

As someone who actually does have DID, I'm just going to say that:
    1. Leaving messages for each other in an easy-to-access, frequently accessible place is not only common for people who have DID and are aware of their condition, it's actually quite useful for helping each other to coordinate and function better as a team. Some people with DID use messages on desktops, but using things like journals is more common. As for us, we keep in touch with Facebook.
    2. Physiological changes can and do occur in some with DID - we're friends with another DID system (system, in this case, refers to a group of alters within the same brain) which suffers from different allergies depending on who is fronting (in control of the body) or conscious (awake/aware), and things like metabolic changes, changes in heart rate, and so on are also documented.
    3. DID is not a horror movie plot, and treating like it is only adds to the stigma faced by people who have DID (which is especially not needed given the fact that, since it's a traumagenic disorder, people with DID have enough to deal with already). Not trying to accuse anyone here of saying that it is - if anyone is to be accused, it would be the makers of Split - but it needs to be said.

According to the documentaries and articles I've seen, it's actually pretty normal for people with multiple personalities to keep a diary as a way to communicate with their alters and/or keep track of what they have been doing, so it makes sense that this character would keep a video diary. It's definetely possible that not all the alters would participate in the diary, but it just depends on the person and their specific alters.

@@Preston241 This series (Unbreakable, Spilt, Glass) is about super powered people, and trauma. The films are slow paced and have a modern day setting. M Night Shyamalan is a hit or miss writer/director, who made a name for himself via twist endings. Unbreakable was slow and focused on intrigue, it's twist IS one of the greatest in cinematic history. Split was a good well paced film, it added dread and mental illness to it's intrigue and trauma. Glass was a miss. It's hard to explain, here's a brief list: Bruce Willis is very tired. Elements were added that felt out of place, if not rushed. The slow paced settings that had meaning in the other films doesn't work. The film has a solid opening act but it's washed away by a rushed and painful ending... ^_^

"Oh thats great so we're like gonna teach people about what having that is like in an educational yet entertaining way?"
"No thats way to hard and learning is boring"
      "Oh so just entertainment?"

"wouldn't it be hard to make an accurate portrayal of a complex disorder like DID?"
"Actually super easy, barely an inconvenience"
      "Wowwowwow... Wow wow"

when you talked about dr Exposition and her exposition seminars I thought: "Wow just like Morgan Freeman in 'Lucy'" Would you make a Lucy Movie Pitch Meeting? Or an Interstellar Movie Pitch Meeting, pretty please??
how about a Lost Pitch Meeting? ...Nah, finding flaws in Lost would be too easy. barely an inconvenience.
