- SO MANY OFF GRID JOBS after a month off from our HOMESTEAD in central Portugal, can we make our OFF GRID CABIN waterproof before the storms hit??? Will we get all these jobs completed in time? PLUS we get DIGGER DAVE back in to start our new MARKET GARDEN...
AND where have we been for the past month?
A self build cabin in the woods can be so romantic AND NOW we're building our own tiny house in our own woodland. Inspired by so many cabins it's time to get chopping wood, digging holes and getting this wooden cabin build off the ground!
We have a vision for a 2 story cabin with a high A frame style roof and a medieval inspired veranda and balcony. Follow along each week and watch us without any previous building skills we show you anyone can do it!

Good to see you back as it's been a while. Just when it seems that your plantation and the building work had evolved to a manageable pace, a huge additional list of jobs are to commence. Love your enthusiasm and achievements and every bit of it is great viewing 👍

If you have a large amount of bamboo, you could make a roof out of that for nothing but labor and time. If you split the bamboo and put the first layer of the u shape halves up next to each other , and fasten that to the lentals. Next you take and put the u shape down this time and fasten those, you end up with a rain proof roof with the first layer taking the water away from being able to have a leak in the roof. It is very simple and works wonderful.
Sounds great and definitely will use bamboo in the future when it's more established. This year we're only just starting to get proper canes.... I think in another year maybe 2, we can harvest some, definitely a great roofing material especially for that tropical jungly look which I do love 👌❤️
If you are afraid the frost will get your peas eat the pods before the peas form inside, you can eat them stir fried or raw, and you can also eat the leaves In a salad,.we do both in Canada.

Well now that’s quite a list you have! Makes me glad I’ve only to harvest the last of my veggies and get my garden box ready for the cold. First snow forecast next Wednesday.
Where are you with snow already? Think we've nearly 1 or maybe 2 months till freezing nights but with the crazy weather I'll be wrapping all my tender stuff early.... The storms have arrived so no watering at least 🌧️💦

So happy you got to see family. You were missed. You can tell this cabin is solid, not shoddy.👏👏👏 Yesterday here in Texas we had low 43. Now it’s 85🤣. Potatoes need a deep dig to get volume. It’s not a sin to dig🥰. Have you had any bananas to eat? Blessings to all❤🥰
So you've changeable weather too, think the climate is broken 🙄
Should get banana to eat next summer as they take around 15months to fruit, so just have to keep them alive/protected through winter ❄️🍌🍌
We do do no dig but would still dig our spuds in 👌😎🍠🥔🥔🥔

Lovely to see you back on again. Oh my days, you are going to be very busy and productive. Glad you've been able to get back to the UK, help remind you how much you prefer living in Portugal 😂😂 but it must've been nice to see your families again. We have just had Storm Babet and our poor garden took a battering, wasn't very nice at all. Hopefully it will all cool down for you soon and you can get in with finishing that cabin. I love the cabin most of all. The catio sounds brill though too. Btw I winterise my boat, not by wrapping in fleece 😂
We'll be back on the cabin as soon as we have a few days of dry to work on the roof. Catio we may start first as doesn't need to be dry. How did you winterize the boat?

Cooled down since editing from 35 to 20 in the last couple of days, so lovely 😍
We are in malta and we plant peas and beans now and in January (no frost here 😊) they produce well :)
Great you have no frosts, ours, are minus 6 but not hard so only in the minus for a few hours b4 dawn generally. But we'll plant and see, what happens! 🌿

Have you find eney truffles on your land. Only asking with you saying that you get wild Bors. Cuz pigs r good at finding um . Do you get lizards 🦎 out there. Love watching your vids. Be save stay save.
I think we do but the boars, get them! Soon we'll have lots of mushrooms and fungi wish I could identify them all for foraging. We do get lots of lizards but usually small 6 inches max

looks amazing with the cabin, but wouldn't it have been easier to restore the windows before fitting them? love the door :D Has your lovely daughter thought of some amazing colors for it? it just screams for some bright colors :D hope you get safely through the storns, the chickpeas love it scorching hot, so planting them in the spring would make more sense I guess? so they really can get toasted during the summer?

Why can’t they roam free? “The indie projects” li e in CP with two cats loving the freedom of the mountains. Get them in at night
Because we don't want them destroying all the wildlife that and the risk to them with lynx and Hunters about. They also don't seem keen on roaming
