I‘m 49 I‘ve been a gamer since 1982. I‘ve seen so many great games but the older you get you‘ve seen everything already. There are very rare games like Elden Ring, Nioh 2, GTA SA, RE4 and BG3. Witcher 3 almost ruined everything else like Wow classic back then. The only game I rly liked this year was Indiana Jones. But only because of nostalgia. It felt like going home to the good old times.

2024 was the first time I played a Street Fighter game. I was always a Tekken guy never played a 2D fighting game before. Street Fighter Alpha 3 became my game of the year because it showed me how awesome fighting games can be. Since then I played SF III. 3rd Strike, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom 1-2 and a few more.
For me, my favourite game of the year would be Astro Bot. Loved every moment of it, while it may not do anything new, everything it does has been refined to perfection. I had the biggest smile on my face while playing - so much joy in one game. I miss platformers like this.
I finally got to through to play The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk this year, they truly are a must play for anyone, both are amazing rpg's, and man, The Witcher 3's story and side quests are so good! The DLC for Elden Ring was also nutty and hyped up (the final boss did disappoint me a little), but I beat him before the patches rolled around so I feel proud. Looking forward to Nightreign

With regards to BG3, I completely agree with you. It's a fantastic game, one of the best ever for sure. But it fails to crack into my Top 10 mostly due to the lackluster story and world. In contrast, Dragon Age Origins and DO2 (both in my Top 10) have really strong stories, and Thedas is far more intersting to me than Faerûn.
Yeah the main story really keeps it out of my Top 10 as well but it's certainly close to being in there. Still haven't played the Dragon Age games but maybe I'll find some time to try them out this year.

My favorite artwork in the form of videogames... Battle Brothers ...tis a true work of art, crafted masterfully with grand skill & passion, filled with actual life & soul from the devs at Overhype... With keen, excellent writing honed by an expert that creates & expands the 'experience-r' into the world that Battle Brothers is set; one sets out to the great many avenues of tactics that are employable within a very satisfying turn-based combat system; played out to the very pretty painterly-brushwork art style; with soundly awesome use of individual character backgrounds & unique traits, all aid to create deep personal attachment to each man hired, & with endless replayability via all the randomization & procedural generation, every new world created & origin started with offers forth a new storyline every single time -- all rounded off with an outright EPIC score of the music that is right up there with other legendary scores such as Halo or Dying Light... It is a sandbox RPG, tactical turn based build-a-Mercenary Company, set in a low fantasy world that is very dangerous, a grim world of untamed wilderness; awaiting for one to brave its frontiers so as to carve out & endure through the thrilling & many dangerous challenges to be met. It is an assuredly supreme experience: simple to learn, very harder to master, infinitely fun... The early game is easily one of the most exciting, albeit highly challenging, experience for a gamer to embark upon. Battle Brothers is wrought with difficulty in an equally unforgiving world; a notably hardcore & tough time awaits; which thus makes an extremely rewarding time to be had - when things go well & great loot is obtained... There is little more satisfying than successfully coming out of a seemingly doomed fight, esp when great gear, perhaps even a famed item, is picked up from amongst the dead all around ... All aspects, mechanics, & available options in the game support the intention & vision the devs created without fail. (None of that "Ludo-dissonance stuff!) It is a rich game world, with grand possibilities sitting on an experience of utter wonder. Here gathers a community where DLC are so very fervently wished for-, where the players are most desirable to spend more money on further expansions of this game, to support the devs! The new music that comes with each DLC, most namely the Warriors of the North, is totally fantastic... In the Name of The Old Gods... The beating sounds of the drums & more is utter perfection when ones band rallies round' in a snowy tundra, facing down a horde of barbarians, clad in their fur armor, baring their teeth and wild weaponry... Having also spawned a beyond solid modding community, wherein hard work has pushed the scope of the game further into the immense potential Battle Brothers provides basis for.
