Kitbashing a LEGENDARY Chaos Lord for Warhammer 40K

- If I had to guess, around 1/4 of all of my builds start with a piece of Games Workshop artwork as a jumping off point, and today's kitbash is no different. I've wanted to kitbash a model based on Adrian Smith's iconic artwork for Engra Deathsword since I first saw the art on the cover of the Warhammer Army book, but I've still not got around to starting that Fantasy Chaos army!
So, obviously, I've decided to bring Engra Deathsword into the grimdark, giving me plenty of license to tweak the build to suit the Warhammer 40,000 setting. And that's the real benefit of kitbashing using artwork as inspiration, you can take as much or as little as you want - there's no rules - all is Chaos!

Adrian Smith is one of the few artists to DEFINE the Warhammer aesthetic and make it unlike anything else. I'm surprised GW doesn't shell out the dollars to keep him on contract.
Thank you for giving him props, really nice homage!
Couldn't agree more. Adrian's work pretty much defines how I visualise Chaos in particular.
@@OffbeatBuilds If I had the bits and stuff, I'd love to kitbash some Choas space marines to look closer to how the original 1st edition 40k Traitor Marines looked with their weird, grotesque mutations and dark gifts. One guy even had a chainsaw tail!
Insanely good, love seeing models inspired by gorgeous retro artwork
Thanks dude!
Those're some gloriously nasty gore effects on the corpses in the pile
Haha, thanks. I can't resist the opportunity to turn up the Cartoonish side of Chaos.
Waist Management 😄👍
That corpse pile is very impressive.
Haha, I mean, if you're making a corpse pile, you go all in!
Excellent conversion, looks bloody amazing!
Thanks, much appreciated!
That base is spectacular! 👍
Darling Offbeat Bullyboy
Give us some more videos you bastard

For real though, I discovered this channel yesterday because the winds of fate have made me remember warhammer exists, and initially only watched the Astra Militarum videos because i'm primarily interested in Guard, but they were so good that I've watched all of them at least once since. Really fantastic videos not just in content but also in production too, absolutely itching to see what comes next.
amazing build and how you did that cape is both simple and genius!
This is some amazing video editing, and a really inspired kitbash. Seeing the methods you use for greenstuff modeling and scenery construction has me wanting to try a bunch of new things with my own models 👌
Always look forward to seeing your video mate! Great job again!! I wish I had your patience for cutting and kitbashing with all the styrene sheets.
The graphics for the bits is insane, love it!
I love your work thats inspired by old warhamer art and models. An amazing but quite possibly difficult build you could do is the monstrous Abominatus, the 'Despoiler of worlds'.
Maybe not to a huge size but perhaps of Imperial Knights scale.
Stellar presentation, witty humor and solid creativity. This video shows your passion. You got a new subscriber!
Your videos (and conversions) just get better and better mate, the production on this one is insane! Also helps that you're damn fine at the hobby too!
Lovely model! Your videos are so well made and I love watching you work on conversions like this. Cannot wait for the next one!
your editing is fucking incredible mate, great model too!
Looking awesome man. Love it
Awesome display!!
First vid I've seen from you and it's awesome. Love the presentation, and awesome work! subbed!
very good model, you never fail to wow me
The pile of bodies was interesting, the way you did it was great and gave me ideas.
My friend, I'm glad you did a cool Chaos lord from an awesome art piece
Nice work, mate!
Yet another absolute banger! Can't wait to see what else you make. I would love to see even more characters, I still remember the Tech marine you made not so long ago. Incredibly inspiring
Thanks man. I really prefer making Character models to be honest!
@@OffbeatBuilds id be awesome to see your take on named characters or other artwork inspired dudes. The one that first comes to mind is the Chaplain on the cover of Angels of Death Codex
top tier conversion & video! cheers!
Love it man ❤ good luck with the next kit bash
Thank you kindly!
That looks badass!!
i ended up using some rubber o rings to increase the height of mine. Cool video!
Love it man
nice to see you doing chaos
You gained a subscriber. Well done.
Looks really cool dude well done! Any further plans into csm kitbashes?
Thanks dude, much appreciated. Yeah, lots as it happens! Chaos are, and always have been the faction I'm drawn to the most in the 40K universe. Not sure what's next, need to scratch the "flyer" itch first for the "good guys" ;)
@@OffbeatBuilds sounds intriguing can’t wait to see! Can I make a request you look into the dark mechanicum and the kaban machine?
@@warp-smith - It's on my list ;)
Very epic!
coolest base ever
I dunno how in the Warp those corpses can holdup what is probably somewhere between 1&2 tons of Astartes Veteran turned Chaos SpaceMarine Lord, but it looks cool
God Adrian smith went hard on that piece
Love this ❤🙌🔥
Brilliant as usual
Gracias amigo. Did you out to the N24 dude?
@@OffbeatBuilds No but going to Spa 24 in a couple of weeks. Good memories.
@@steveworrell - nice. Bit jealous! Have a good one mate.
That base is almost as impressive as the model!
Blood for the blood god!
Can you make a obliterator chaos lord
Yeah dude, I've got a new set of obliterators on my list of ideas I'm working though - kinda based on this piece of art: i.pinimg.com/736x/a2/a0/24/a2a024f8e62de7f4ad1cb2a8d9f8afa5.jpg
Very cool model! What's the metal block you are using to hold your minis?
I love 40k because you can justify nearly anything by fudging the lore.
Haha, right?! I love the lore, but it's always been pretty, err, flexible!
I always figured the best kind of 40k lore is made by making something cool and then twisting the lore to justify it.
Minis comes first, then art, then rules, fluff last
RIP Cadians
Sigismund claps
Chain weapons are definitely more 30k/40k than traditional fantasy weapons.
Powered chain weapons are great for fleshing out a Characters deadlyness .
Mgnifico¡
all that work and it looks like shit.
Wow 40k chaos lords are like whfb chaos lords but lamer!
You've destroyed a ton of minis to create an average chaos space marine...
Those minis aren't being destroyed... He's literally turning them into a model. If he built a cataphractii and some chosen as instructed... All he'd have is a mass produced chunk of plastic that anybody could have. He took pieces and turned them into art
@@user-zi4wx3uw1y Art doesn't understand of serial products. No, minis aren't, unfortunately, art. They are serial products even with you destroy 5 or 6 minis to create your "own" marine. Been there, done that...sometimes it turned great, and sometimes I just created another really expensive average model.
@@bullgrim art actually does understand serial production, it's literally just a piece of art reproduced and nauseum. Minis are absolutely art, do you think they're made by a machine? Do you think they're found in nature? You obviously don't have a very developed idea of what art is
