Not even close. Devs wouldn’t kill off the current gen consoles because of vram, due to there only being 8gb of vram allocated to gaming in some consoles. Maybe when ps6 and the next xbox come out then 8gb will be gone

@@johnpen269 I said some for a reason, why would they kill off the series S which only has 8 gb? Also do you seriously believe consoles like the series x and ps5 uses ALL of the 16 gb? The os of those consoles would be unusable while gaming if that was true
@@johnpen269but shared memory means it's RAM+VRAM, if all of it is allocated to vram then what about the team that the game will utilise ?

I kept the 1060 3gb for 6 whole years because of all the crazy covid/mining era pricing of gpus before i finally upgraded to a 3060 ti and I'm actually impressed it runs this well all things considered. Last year before i upgraded it was impossible to get 60fps at 1080p very low on pretty much every game i tried expect from indie stuff and competitive shooters so the fact that its playable even at 30fps is not bad. It is ps4 levels of performance and that is a fixed platform so easier to optimize for and devs can squeeze a bit more maybe. Also, this includes the expansion which did not launch on ps4/pro so i think performance is fine. Prices are down and you can get much better gpus in the 300/350 price range that smoke the 1060 so...holding on to a 7 year old may be silly at this point.

It never was, it was the 6GB version that was considered good. This 3GB version was a lowkey scam by Nvidia.

I have both versions of 1060. I play Far Cry 6 on 3 gb with 1080p low 60+ FPS all the time and it is VERY good experience.

I bought this graphic card and I was so pleased with it. It was an ASUS overclock 1063 gig. I played every game at 1080P ultra and it was super super super smooth. No hiccups, no stutter. It was the best graphic card I ever had and I sold it to a boy with his grandfather. And all it was was a small little card with a gigantic heat sync on. It ran like a gem and I got it for 1/3 of the price I was going for at the time and I made double my money and the boy was still saving a 100 bucks and it was brand new. It came in an alien wear system. And the guy bought a 2080 Ti at the time.
And sold this card to me and told me how great of a car it was, but he had to have the best at the time so everybody benefited but I must say of all the cards, I've everyone knew an old that 1.Was mama better just right
I love this card because it beats most 4gb cards except gtx 970 and gtx 1650 super.

I have a MSI 32" 165hz 1920x1080p monitor and I'm using DP for my connection.
I want to Super Resolution etc.
I'm trying to get the best fps and have the best visual settings as well.
I'm playing now @1080p, but I want to use 1440p.
There's a free DLC "Into the Light" that you can do for the test.
I want to know if using DP vs HDMI is the best for me and playing at 1440 is good.
Now that I remember, I had this GPU when I built my first computer. But I immediately realized that I had made a mistake because the 3 GB of VRAM was not enough for my needs. And approximately half a year later I was able to sell the GTX 1060 3GB and acquired a Radeon RX 580 8GB and the difference in power was very evident. The Radeon RX 580 8GB worked for me from 2018 to 2023 without problems.

the FPS is good, but the texture can't load properly. that ground textures is flat off
that they stay with the official fsr 3 or mod but apparently even gpus from up to 10 years ago will last..
Hence why i caution for people getting low vram cards, i can settle lowering settings such as shadows, lightings, and such, but never textures.

Could you do a video showing the jumps from upgrading? I'm on a 1050 ti but I can't decide which budget card to go with. The 7600, 6600, 3060, 4060, etc. It would be nice to see a popular old budget card go against more popular new budget cards to see the increase in performance one can expect when upgrading.
I would say 3060. You can probably find it cheaper than the 4060, it performs only 8% slower (sometimes its faster too!) but you get 12gb of VRAM instead of 8gb on the 4060. Also i wouldnt recommend AMD for budget because of the lack of DLSS. DLSS is so much better than FSR for 1080p, and it has extended the lifespan of my 2060 laptop way more than i would have expected.
Edit: 8% is not a lot, and remember, in some games the 3060 is faster due to the larger memory bus (192 bit vs 128bit on the 4060) and the extra vram (12gb vs 8gb)
@@DefinitelyNotPedro I heard the 3060 was pretty crap on performance though. And the AMD cards perform much better just raw raster wise. I'm also thinking of maybe the 2080 ti, from what I've seen it's a beast of a card and only 1GB less than 3060. The problem is it becomes a lot less budget when going with that card as it's around 350-400 used.
@@_gr1nchh the 3060 is definitely not crap, i just told you it gets around the same performance as the 4060, but you should definitely look at reviews online to compare for yourself. the 2080 ti even today is way more expensive. You can get a 3060 for sub 300 $, the 2080 ti is more like 500$. One strong point for the 4060 however is the efficiency, its the same performance as a 3060 for 50% less power.
Can't you stretch your budget to 6700xt?
RX 6600 (alternatively XT version) is definetly the best bang for the buck in that range unless you really want DLSS or you are on an old system with only pcie 2.0 or need CUDA. (alternatively RX 5700 (xt) but those require a more beefy power supply and may be more risky due to being more used for mining, and you can't get those new with warranty of course). You can save a bit by getting a used one.
3060 will get you dlss but for the price of those you can probably get a faster 66x0 xt or maybe even a 6700 if you are lucky.

Ik this is stupid to say because very low in games are suppost to look terrible but Im sorry to say but in this game even very low looks really good this game except for texture but this game is so graphically beautiful its insane on any setting even tho in definitely looks way better at higher settings

Hey! Sometimes, only for BG3 and VR games because buying a steam account with the games was much cheaper than buying them for my account.

I bought a gtx 1060 6gb when it was released new in 2016. I looked at the 3gb model but decided double the vram was worth the extra $.

no 2060 6gb is fine though, like its a 100$ gpu, if you can afford to spend thousands of dollars/euros on AAA games then at that point youre probably also able to afford a better pc

Don't forget the year 1060/3 was released. You can even play a lot of modern games, especially online based, with 4+ Gb just fine, since more than 6-8 are usually goes to caching and textures, not the actual game requirements. So 3Gb was more than enough and 1060/3 was released for competitive and casual gamers where high framerate was more important than textures quality, while 1060/6 was a beast that's still somewhat holding up these days. Same thing with modern 8Gb budget cards, they are fine, just don't crank up graphics settings and avoid poorly optimized titles (those can exceed even 12gb VRAM and 32gb RAM in my case)
Its just reminding to get class 70 from nvidia.

Don't think it's completely the vram. It's just flatout not powerful enough. It still outperforms the GTX 1050 TI.
You know what you have to do then: test its very close-in-performance partner, the GTX 970!
Overclocking the core by +100 and the memory by +500 might get you a 30fps minimum.
(As always, your oc'ing mileage will vary.)

With all the new games touting their new graphics this game doesn't really add to the enjoyment. Could of easily went for a stylized look and achieved the same experience gameplay wise.

I dare you to make a 1060 3gb test in few games, I got this card and it still surprises me how "strong" this card is. I mean I'll be changing whole setup to 4090 but 1060 will stay forever in my heart
why would you even buy 1060, rx 580 is cheaper and has 8gb of vram and faster as well i even seen some chinese ones that have 16 gb of vram.
