My mom had been cutting our household's hair for the past 30 years now, and now she even cuts my husband's. He has this issue where he can't get that spot to lie down, and it's very frustrating to him! I sent this video to my mom, and she said she never thought of this! She tried it on my husband yesterday, and problem solved!! Thank you so much for this! :)
I have a double crown and have a similar problem with my hair sticking up like this when it’s too long. I can understand why you either have to go long or short, but this wouldn’t be my preferred option. Because unless you’re planning on going to the barber every two weeks, the hair is gonna start sticking up again. I also think it’ll look very disjointed between the buzz cut around the top, back and sides and the length on the front. Sorry, just my opinion.
Yeah exactly just have your hair slightly less short especially on the top. You can just look at a 2 block and do something like that even if it's not exactly like that. Or just don't have shorter hair further back on the top.
Mom of kiddo with autism who hates haircuts. That’s means over the last 5 years I’ve have to teach myself how to cut hair. This cowlick whorl has been my greatest nemesis!!! Thank you for this tip!! 🎉
Totally makes sense. Long enough to lay down, or so short it blends with the rest of the head except the front which you leave longer. So I need more of a crew cut than the Ivy league. (still wants to stick up at crown, cowlick). Great explanation. I'm 60 and my Dad used to tell the barber when we were kids, "Give them a Princeton." (short everywhere except front). Thank You!
Or you can get it short enough to stay in place an not stick up but instead blend in. This is what I do with my cowlick but I also have curly/wavy hair and I keep it at a medium /longer length it’s easier to blend it like this . If I let my cowlick in the back grow long enough , it’ll curl an grow in some weird directions. But stick up none the less. Where as if I cut it to about an inch length it’ll take it’s first curl/wave and blend with the rest, allowing me to keep the top long.
I've struggled with mine for almost all my life. My mom forced me to start combing my hair back when I was a kid because she believed it to be more presentable. But since I had a cow lick on the back of my head and didn't know what it was, half my hair always looked terrible. Eventually I was able to grow it long enough where it wasn't a big deal anymore. Until I got a haircut that went a bit short. I haven't been able to get past the awkward phase since. But luckily, about looking bald, I don't really have to worry about it. One good thing my dad left me was his genetics for a full head of hair, that and since I got in a fight a few years ago where my head was busted open with a bottle and a scooter, the scar that was left is next to my cow lick, so I just tell people it's my scar that's not letting hair grow right.
I've got a double crown and cut my own hair similar to this but shorter. Usually do a 0 to 6 bald fade and definitely have to keep the crown area short or else it won't style right. 🤷🏻♂️ Basically with a cowlick or double crown in my case the hair either needs to be really short or long, anything in-between will stick up weird.
Good video and advice. I have been cutting my own hair for over five years now. I have a stubborn cowlick at the back at the right side of my head. I have a clipper that cuts up till 23 mm (guard), which is not that short. If i do the same like you did in the video, cutting the hair all around the cowlick, it is controlled, not sticking out and yet long enough! My clippers actually broke recently and now i'll be buying a clipper that has a 28 mm guard, which would leave my hair even longer. I am excited to try it!
I literally have just started having my barber do a fade but to cut the back right of my head where the hair sticks up from the bed head where the calic is and as short as possible and blend it in with the fade, although I have to get it every couple of weeks to maybe a month depending on how short my barber leaves it
I just cut my own hair for the first time with a clipper. 13.5 mm on the top 9 7 4 3 mm going down on the sides. Looks damn good. Since my hairdresser is in quarantine. And the price in the bigger city is outrageous for the hairdo I have literally takes them 10 minutes to do and price is 50 bucks and I ain't paying that. In my town she takes 23 dollars so still to much but I like to use local shops and support them.
If you like doing it yourself, then do it but don’t complain about the prices for hairstyling. You are paying for their years of expertise and they too have to make a living… it’s mind blowing how people are willing to pay so much to go out, for liqueur, or eat at restaurants, but a haircut is “too expensive “

So I just took some scissors, put the hair up and cut it, problem solved, no need to shave the whole head (although I am planning to once I get my own clippers). I already cut that part twice since then, because it tends to grow back every 10 days or so, but it's just a small easy cut and my bedhair shows me exactly when and where to cut, lol.
