Hi lovely to see a room coming to life. Love the pictures ,but I love seeing a collection of different sizes together and seeing as you seemed to have a lot of pictures ,I am sure you could find some 🤗
i just found your channel and this is the first video i chose to watch. Ive been following other chateau owners in France for some years now but there is no one like you, real art lovers with a high artistic eye. So many english chateau owners are doing such poor restoration work and have no clue about history or art, which is why i stopped watching them. I have always wished to watch true art lovers decorating a chateau and here you are. Its a pleasure to hear the stories behind the pieces and to watch you talking with each other and having fun. The accent is lovely to hear, unlike those who speak english in a more peasant manner. I am Romanian and my english is not perfect but i love to see educated people sharing their art passion. Oh and i also love the classical or soothing jazz music background. Most chateau vlogs use modern techno music which in my opinion doesnt work well with the chateau environment. In a simple phrase, it is a treat to watch your video.
Well, what can we say? Welcome to Our Chateau Life, because that is what it's intended to be our lives not just DIY. Your message is greatly appreciated, sometimes you wonder if it's all worthwhile, I live chained to my edit suite 😊 your message was wonderful to read for both of us. Yes we are both art lovers and love nothing more than a lost afternoon in a gallery, we dream of an eclectic collection of wall hangings and furniture from every era, with a mix of materials, fabrics and fragrances in our beautiful Chateau. We live by this guiding principle: 'Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful. William Morris'. And yes eclectic everything, including music! I spend hours selecting the right pieces for our videos, most of the time I get it right, not always 😊 you may find some techno when it feels right for the footage. So keep watching, and keep the comments coming please, We are doing a 'Live' this Friday the 17/1/25 and hope you can join us, all the very best Lionel & Claire ❤️☺️
I totally agree with hanging the art so you can enjoy it as.you pass by each day. It's certainly more attractive than unfinished walls. I love Lionel's enthusiastic laughter! I actually liked the blue bird in.proximity with the smaller abstract piece. They both shared the same shades or blue and orange.
Didn't notice that going to have a look! Thank you 😊❤️
Oh goodie! Furniture ballet! Pups were confused about the game, yet remained enthusiastically in support! Now about the rug that goes under all the seating....;-) Wait...picture hanging balllet too! Love the paint color, furniture and bird poster in that room!
We are still trying to find the right rug - dont hold your breath!
@OurChateauLife I know hiw that goes...just teasing;-)
I just watched your tour of the attic. A very good insulation for the windows is bubble wrap duck tape it over the whole area keeps the cold out and let's the light in....love you guys...Alexa
Oooo that's a great idea thank you ❤️😊
I would try the sofa facing the fireplace, two matching chairs, one on each side facing each other and the other two chairs back to back with the sofa or with a sofa table between them.
For the 10th time, Happy New Year! Great video. Nice Benin-style bronze! The painting of the woman, I think, is 17th-century English or Dutch. I would need to get a much better look at it to tell you for sure. The ruffled collar is pretty distinctive. It is a woman. You would be looking at about $4000 to $8000. I think to have it cleaned, filled, "in-painted," properly put onto a new canvas lining, and re-stretched well. Depending, of course, on the reputation of the restorer.
Your voices certainly echo in that room. Lionel is having a grand old time and laughing more than I’ve heard him laughing in quite a while. He must enjoy interior designing and manual labor. 🙂 Even though it’s not bright outside, the wall color looks nice! Well done. 👍🖼️🎄👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻
PS: Sorry, but I feel I must say just one comment about the portrait painting of the woman: It’s really going to dry out a lot and not be healthy at all to hang over your radiator - UNLESS you can turn the heat below it very low! Seriously.🤔🔥
thanks for the comment on the beautiful but already very poor painting above the radiator ❤
Thanks Dennis, yes the painting will be moved away from the radiator! If that is the cost of restoring then very sadly I may have to put the painting away again😕 and await that forthcoming lottery win 😊
I like the way you set up the Salon....very cozy, I have to say I like the bird pic on the wall you chose in the end. Yes, visit with other Chateaus....no doubt it will help you. I love seeing the other videos I watch mixing with each other.....you become family.
Fingers crossed! It would be lovely to meet them and share ideas
Like the modern touch your using for the chateau, it really suits it .Looking forward to this years journey .🎉❤😊
Happy New year to you both .
Clearly you have excellent taste 😊❤️, thank you and happy new year!
The room looks lovely with framed pictures and furniture placement. Love the wall colour
Thank you, its so nice to have a finished room at last!
I love the sofa and matching chairs. The other two golden tan chairs could be used in another small sitting area with a small table in another part of the room. Maybe some pillows on the sofa too. Love what you are doing and I love the color on the walls.
Good start! - I’d pull the smaller chairs, table and ottoman - back away from the main seating. I’ also add pillows, blanket, a carpet to the room, and a couple of standing reading lights, a console and table lamp, and straight, lined drapes. There’s plenty of beautiful design available there in what has already been gathered over a lifetime; wouldn’t take a lot to finish things up. Happy New Year! Your gorgeous house is becoming a lovely home 🥂
The salon is beautiful, love your statues, and the painting of the lady is amazing. I hope you enjoy many years in it for the warmth and charm and character you have added.
What a lovely comment and lovely sentiments, thank you so much ❤️😊
thanks for another beautiful & fun vlog & inviting us to your salon❣️ and another thank you for filming how to professionally marking post-its instead of walls ❣️ be glad the Benin Bronze God isn't a piece of looted art or you couldn't/ wouldn't enjoy it without second thoughts...
You can use masking tape too, but sometimes its a bit too sticky and takes the paint off
Hi Lionel and Clare.Happy New Year to you both..
Your salon looks so lovely. I love that you have your art work hanging up now. It looks like you are visiting a gallery. What great talking points when you have guests. As I am sure that each piece of art, has a story attached to them. Your salon has come together beautifully. It's lovely and interesting. Well done. Love the wall colour too.❤❤

Thank you, its so nice to have a room that feels more like "us" at last
Happy new year! Love the blue bird 😊
Me too!!
A rug could anchor the fabulous furniture
We are searching for the perfect one!
Hello Lionel and Claire, love your intro music! Enjoyed your fun video! Thank you!
Happy New Year!🎈🎊🎆
Happy New Year!🎉
And a HNY to you too ❤️😋
The salon is looking great. Just a little more of this and that and it will be Perfect. Love the arrangement of the chairs and the sofa.! You are both adorable! Love the dogs! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much 😊❤️
Happy New Year, Lionel and Claire. I could give you my play list of all the chatelains I watch. Chateau Diaries would be a good place to begin.
The picture hanging was lovely, now it feels like your home. The original oil portrait is lovely, it would be great to have it restored, I really like where you placed it. Your African piece sent me down memory lane. To a holiday I took in 1982 to Jamaica. I purchased a large carved wood shield shaped piece made by a local artist. I kept it until 1999. When we were selling up and moving to my husbands first Parish as their Pastor. Sadly he did not feel it was a suitable piece to keep and it went in the garage sale. Memories. It was lovely to hear your memories and how you acquired some of your pieces. Ronnie in Saskatchewan
Glad you enjoyed it 😊❤️
Glad you enjoyed it 😊❤️
Happy New Year to you both and the adorable puppies!!!!
The Salon is beautiful love the color and wall art…..BUT, you need to invest in furniture sliders, before one of you pull a muscle in your back.
Love Watching your videos , yes it would be neat for u to meet other chateau owners .love the 2 statues the Lion type one cute his eye really feel like he watches u . Happy New Year and look forward to more Vlogs . Cheers .Xxx😊
Looking good on to the next room
Contact a museum to ask who they recommend for painting restoration. You need to get the work done by someone who knows what they are doing.... no students. The two of you are such fun. Have a super New Year! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the tip! And HNY to you too 👍😊❤️
I'm first on the list....wow! Looking forward to this.
The salon looks so good and the placement of the chairs and couch is okay! You have some really nice pictures and putting them up on the walls makes things look more homey. Well done!!
Thank you so much!
Happy New Year Claire and Lionel, hope this year brings you joy and prosperity with the Chateau and the opening of the Grand Opry circuit for the fancy French and aristocratic Marquis’s of the Vendee River Quarry Quartet. Take care and God Bless.🙏😇🏰
YOU'RE BACK! We missed you! We both hope all is well with you both HNY ❤️😊
@ yes well we need to support our British forebears that allowed us to settle in Australis Convictus! Keep warm and keep up the great work and Vlogs you too scallywags. 🙏🙏🏰
Love your Benin Bronze! I have two Nigerian ebony heads, a gift from President Obasanjo, whom was my host, mid 1980's. Wonderful country Nigeria!
Oh how wonderful! There was so much I wanted to bring home with me!
The unearthed treasures are very interesting
Happy New Year!! Thank you so much for sharing all those wonderful videos with us. Love the large classroom map.
Your welcome - we need to find a good place to hang the map - maybe in our office if we ever get it done!
Happy New Year to you both. I loved seeing the art going into the salon. I am looking forward to seeing more of you in 2025. X
Thank you, Happy New Year to you too :)
Hi there just a thought.. sell some of your art and enjoy heating in your chatau ..I believe clothing furniture and art maybe effected by the cold damp rooms of a chateau, happy holidays !
I don't think any of it is worth much - its just stuff we like but nothing expensive.
Salon looking good especially now with art work. Happy new year to you both. 🍾🤗
Thank you and to you too ❤️😊
I really enjoy your videos, keep them coming!
Your humour is enjoyable.
Happy New Year!
Thank you!
Wabi-sabi. I love Japanese anesthetic. We were supposed to go for our first time, but covid. Scheduled for the year after next, fingers crossed. Also, sofa across from the matching chairs/ non matching chairs to the side is correct, it was the first thing i thought. Sofa left or right depends on what it outside. My wife and i would take the sofa, so the guests should have the better view. Looks good, just maybe a rug? Shopping trip!
Yes, a rug would be great
We are trying to find the perfect rug!
Happy new year and all the best to you.
You are very entertaining. Just found your channel.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you found us - we've got lots of things planned for this year 😊
OMG! That statue looks like the one in the 1975 movie “Trilogy of Terror”
Well I had to Google that and now I am going to have nightmares 🤣🤣
Vous pourriez contacter l’École du Louvre qui pourrait vous donner les cordonnées de restaurateurs de tableaux. Bonne année et bon courage pour les futurs travaux.
👍
With your design aesthetic I would suggest you visit with Anna and Phillip at How to renovate your chateau and also Amanda and Lincoln at Our French Chateau. Both have a more modern feel, both are private homes only and both are incredibly well designed.
Thank you for your lovely suggestion! Anna and Philip at How to Renovate a Chateau and Amanda and Lincoln at Our French Chateau are such inspiring creators, and their design aesthetic is indeed remarkable. We admire their work and would absolutely enjoy collaborating with like-minded chateau owners. It might be worth mentioning to Anna and Philip how much you'd love to see us work together-sometimes it just takes a little nudge from supportive viewers like you to make these things happen! ❤️😊
@@OurChateauLife Will do.
your Benin God looks a bit like a garden gnome! But he is gorgeous.
I think he would be quite offended to be compared to a gnome 🤣🤣
❤🎉
Best wishes to you for the new year 2025
Thank you and to you too ❤️😊
This room is looking great! But my back was starting to hurt a bit ;)
🤣🤣
I'm naming your home the "Eclectic Chateau"
Good name 🙂❤️
UA-cam painting restoration!
I think I would be too scared to try and do it ourselves!
