Rewiring the Salon, Choosing Paint and Daily Life at the Chateau
You two are absolutely delightful. Please ignore rude comments. It just comes with the territory. My husband was a urologist (had a stone in Amsterdam)and my son is a urologist so I’m interested in your experience with French medical care.. Did they diagnose you immediately with a stone and administer a narcotic?did you pass the stone? How long were you in the hospital? Expense? My husband was in the hospital for a week ended up discharging himself And passed the stone after drinking some excellent beer. (Subsequently he prescribed beer for all his stone patients) the hospital expense was negligible
I've had a stone twice in my life, my experience was dreadful actually! I was in absolute agony whilst sitting on a trolley in a corridor, I went in about 10am and didn't see a doctor until 5pm. I wasn't given any pain relief whatsoever. I seem to recall that by the time I saw the doctor I was feeling a lot better, so maybe it was already on its way out! The cost is nothing, other than hefty taxes in France. I have since been warned off this hospital and would now insist on going to a bigger hospital half an hour away that has been excellent. I will remember the 'Beer' thing if it ever happens again, and safe in the knowledge that I now know who to ask for advice next time, though I am guessing your husband's and son's fees might frighten me off 😊❤️
I’m a Reddit aficionado lol
You should definitely get electric blankets and throws. FYI sometimes it's easier to get forgiveness than permission. I have owned large properties and that's for sure.... the minute workman see you property, they think they can charge more because you won't know any better. The other thing I've found is that some workers will rob you blind if you're not watching them. it's so disappointing. Tools, jewels, you name it, people steal. One thing I sometimes do if I have to leave with someone inside is to take photos of the insides of closets, etc so I can see if anything has been moved. Lock up anything of value or anything small that is irreplaceable. I learned my lesson the hard way.
Good grief, how awful for you, like you we have had our share of very bad experiences and are always very wary! We only own one Picasso so not too worried 😊 Electric blanket, now that is a great idea thank you! 😊❤️
this is a really nice video. both take all the time to explain their experiences in (rural) France en gave us their advice. in a very calm and realistic way. thanks you both. i love it to look forward to your next stories.
Thank you for your lovely words ❤️😊
I know very well the problem of cold inside, more cold in than out☹
Very good! Thank you!
Our pleasure!
Can you get Babble to sponsor you to learn French🤷🏻♀️
Podcastle is a genius idea Châtelaine Claire 👏👏👏 !
This is what I don’t understand about Chateau Diaries They invest in a lot of projects but they seem to consider heating as secondary I also believe that a warm home is the apex of luxury Otherwise the body , the heart and the soul become paralyzed Than you 🤗
They buy so much porcelain and go on so many trips but they can’t afford heat
Great chat with lots of info. Love seeing you both ❤
Your Vlogs & Podcasts are my favourite, so informative & amusing. You are the only Château I subscribe to financially, you're worth your weight in Gold, keep up the good work ❤x
Lionel, would you consider doing regular vlogs on learning French . This is one of my favourite channels
THANK YOU AND BEST wishes to you
Hello from sunny Northern California 👋🏻 How about a lawn mowing robot? Chatêau de Purnon has one.
YES! I have been following their development for a couple of years and they get better and better every year, but yes we want one ❤️😊
Oooh, that would be a fun field trip. Lionel and Claire finding out where the original owners of the Chateau wintered in Paris and taking us there.❤
Am I correct in saying, you are not allowed to pull down these ovens if they are intact and usable if you want to use them.
Hi there Claire and Lionel. Heating I can understand. We have natural gas, which we take for granted. We had to replace our boiler the first year here, thank goodness we got the heating guy in to clean the 1950s small boiler. There was no way we were going to have heating that winter, replacement was required, the province was giving a small refund for buying fuel efficient boilers. We were lucky they linked the new boiler to the old cast iron pipes, and no water tank is required. And I think I have told you this before! Oops sorry! Each year it needs cleaning and parts need to be replaced. Invariably most winters we wake up on one day to a house that is only 7+/-C in the house -25C outside, hubby usually has to replace the ignitor, (a plumber charges $500 or more). Our home is 1700 +/- sq ft, built 1912. Listening to various chatelaines discuss their heating issues, it seems to not matter which method you have, it is very expensive. I would love to live in the countryside of France, you appear to have birdsong all year, where we only have a few birds that stay the winter. Also everything looks so green there, where as it is white all winter, most winters, and green as long as you water your property in the summer. Ronnie in Saskatchewan
I keep an Oster French Door Oven. Fits a pizza Stone and also hot air
It was essential to learn english
Love "pod castles" Claire!!!! So sad to hear that your Mum and Dad went through the cold with no heat for that long and for you folks who has gone through it for so long up to now. Your comments make a lot of sense regarding purchasing huge buildings and properties. I think I'll stick to visiting you in your vlogs, which are fantastic!
Your video was both informative and amusing, as is usually the case. I think it was very kind of you to be very straightforward with anybody listening about what they are actually going to be getting into, so that they do not make a mistake they will regret perhaps for the rest of their lives! 😢 Other people who might be thinking about it might tone down their expectations and get something smaller and less expensive, and perhaps newer, so that they don’t have the expense and the worry and the terrible inconveniences of refurbishing, maintaining, and constantly updating or fixing a 200 or 300 or 400 year-old “residence.” There is a reason why people abandon a château and very large historical homes in France, particularly in the country areas. At one point in time, the family might have had loads of money, but things got to the point where they could not afford to live there for various reasons, so they got the Hell out. So, it makes a lot of sense to be very cautious and don’t have unrealistic stars in your eyes when you are thinking how about how glamorous and how carefree it would be to live in a 200 year-old or 300 year-old or even 100-year-old lovely French château! 🤯🤔🙄
So true luxury chateau living is having to turn the heat down, you have so much....Bravo! So...does this mean no indoor pool, no smoking lounge, no speak easy and no ballroom? ;-)
I couldn't survive without a ballroom 💃🕺 ... 😉
That's quite good, Claire.
Good evening lovelies. X
Welcome to the wonderful world of Zigbee Smart Homes 😀
Really excellent, enjoyed over my evening wine 🇦🇺
Its great that u updating your Chateau to stay warm .
Always!
Sonoff est une super marque dont j'ai fait moi-même l'installation relayée avec l'intelligence artificielle "Alexa" dans toute ma maison .. le rapport qualité-prix est le mieux du marché à mon humble avis
I love having all this explained to me. Thank you!
Great idea to do reviews on gadgets you purchased. You could title it to relect the device as a review to draw in new reviewers who look for product reviews.
Hmmm good idea, thank you ❤️
Bien joué pour l'installation...bon travail, provisoire mais fonctionnel...ce produit est similaire à ce que je pose, mais en nettement moins chère, j'adore😂😂
Haha merci Aurelien!
Wonderful accomplishment!
Enfin, devices to make things work, adapters to boost or transmit and connect the Wi-Fi-like signal to the next floor or wing, or whatever. Ce Marche. And as for the SONOFF company, how could I ever forget that name, which Lionel so admiringly mentioned 50 times in the video? If I did that for a company, I would expect some sort of remuneration or sponsorship since I am sure people buying and living in old homes with radiator heat all around the world could use these and would love something that is easy to use, reliable, and very good value. But perhaps I am biased. Interesting technical video. As with most things, these are great as long as one has power! :) Thank goodness you have a couple of good fireplaces or more and a gas heater that can be used in any sort of power outage emergency. 🥶🥵🥃🍷🧣
Great devices for your home. Very interesting and a great find!
Great use of modern technology to save money …. Anything to be more comfortable in your surroundings 🥰.
Good luck, best wishes! Hang in there!
This was actually an interesting video, not at all the boring one you warned about. Much of the technology you showed is not available where I live in the USA. I had a 10,000 square foot (approximately 930 sq. m.) house full of radiators that I was constantly running around adjusting - and cussing out. I could have used these gadgets!
OMG you would have loved this then! sadly I sit in the salon endlessly checking the app, not a lot better than TikTok really...
CLAIRE et LIONEL acCOMPLICES , un BEAUtiful château , RESTAURATIONS, DECORATIONS, LIBATIONS... PATIENCE et COURAGE ! , IMPOSSIBLE TRADUCTION , trop de FRANCE là-dedans !!!
Thank you for this! This time of year heating strategies occupy about 9/10ths of my brain space living in a drafty old house here in France 😂
So pleased! It was a bit of a punt buying this system, but as it turns out it works exceedingly well, and you can hide it!
I sense several rechargeable batteries are in your future ;-)
erm... very possibly yes
Best wishes to you
Thank you and to you too!
So I can cook my pizza rolls in the little oven and my pizza in the big boy.
I loved your tour of this chateau, especially this part. You are so much fun.
I loved looking back on your journey. I once again laughed over the ladder ballet. Laughter and fun in general is important and you bring that to us each video you upload. I also have found your shorts and they are fun too. Ronnie in Saskatchewan
Editing this, we both sat at our desks giggling like children watching the ladder ballet, nice to think you and others giggle along as well 🙂
aren't you worried about vikings?
Vikings are always a concern, we are both highly trained in self defence, both ex members of the SAS and the French foreign legion, we can both explode into a frenzy of defensive violence at a moment's notice 🙂❤️
You two seem really delightful and I love your dogs! Field spaniels? They're gorgeous. Here's what I'm thinking tho... with only 4k+ subscribers you wouldn't jump so quickly to the patreon bit. You may get way more views and grow more quickly if you don't make some videos exclusive at first. Personally, I watch over 100 channels. I am a patron of only one which is an animal welfare channel. I can't possibly be a patron of every single channel and neither can anyone else. I do enjoy your channel but I'm more interested in the history of the chateau, seeing your plans, and the implementation of those plans plus of course, broconte shopping. And if you really want to make a good living at this, up your game and do a video 3 o4 4 times a week. You could get so much more exposure. Just a few tips.
You are right of course, changes are afoot! Thank you I really appreciate hearing it from your side of the story, it's easy to get caught up in other things. It is a very difficult to imagine following 100 channels, but such is the way of today's consumption of media. Our lovely dawgs, Mimi, the elder, English, is a 'Show Cocker' and the very kindest and most wonderful generous character, Margaux, French, I guess a standard Cocker, much smaller than Mimi, also gorgeous and still very mischievous and highly entertaining with it. If everything goes to plan,it rarely does, we will be getting a lot done this year, so you might enjoy seeing the transformation, thank you for your advice, we do listen! All the best, Lionel & Claire ❤️🙂
@@OurChateauLife 🌷🌷🌷
Wonderful video! What an amazing experience you are having and sharing ❤
It really is! 🙂❤️
What a great video ❤ Fred is very cool and she drives a stick shift!!! What's not to love😊 absolutely loved the bit at the end ❤Great job on that !!! AND now , need to see pictures of all your different hair😂😊❤
I really enjoy your vlogs.....you both have the best sense of humours and lovely laughs....you really make my day much better. Thank you!! Your content is always good as well......love the food parts...lol!!
Ooooh yes we must do more foody bits, thanks for the reminder ❤️🙂
