Good instructions here! I found that Snow Joes' replacement parts are out of stock, and some people waited for a year and still didn't get the part. For that reason, I made my own repairs. Use this machine for fresh snow only because ice and hard-packed chunks will destroy it.
Thank you, bought two broken ones of these to get working for my elderly neighbor. Glad I found this video versus just ordering a new belt like I first suspected.
I've seen this issue addressed on many online forums. No one has mentioned if this design performs like a shear pin on traditional gas powered blowers.
Thank you very much for the detailed instructions. Your clip helps. I am glad that I can fix the snowblower instead of throwing it away. It is good for the environment, too.
Good video thanks! My SJ625E just stopped spinning in the middle of a storm - only like 4 months old. Takes a lot of abuse, but wondering if anyway to replace plastic pully with metal one?
I done a research for all electric snow thrower, including major brand such as Toro. All of them are using plastic pully. Therefore, no metal pully which I can "borrow" from other brand. I believe there must be some machine that use metal pully that can be fit into this, but I don't have such exposure. If you like to keep it, then buy a new part, and add epoxy around it to strengthen it. I have given up on it, and went to smallest gas snow thrower, as they are using metal pully
I just bought a SJ25E but have not yet used it - your comments are making me start to regret the purchase. I still own and used my Toro electric for last week's storm of 40cm. While the Toro power curve does has a plastic pulley, it's actually a small ribbed belt that is it's weakness. I have replaced it twice in the last 7 years - the belts strip easily if you try and go through really hard packed snow and ice. These tiny belts too cost about $40 (magic number it seems) it's tempting to get a gas model but IF you have a garage to store and thaw it. My garage was converted into a playroom.
Anthony Lee nah! It can take a lot of abuse!! I’m in Quebec mountains in Canada and in my front yard I typically get 1ft if compact snow every snowfall - much more in a blizzard (like the day it broke down) what’s worse is that when the street shovel come around the corner from the main road to my street my drive way is a minimum of 4ft of snow high and 3ft deep. My truck, trailer and minivan are always buried each time - I try to always shovel my street about 400ft both sides of the road before the street shovel comes around my house in order to Minimize the weight of snow in the mouth of my 25ft driveway. So with that said. The blower takes a lot of abuse. After checking the blower a few days ago it didn’t strip but but filled up with ice. Still works. Luckily Amazon sent me two snowjoes by mistake!! They said I could keep it and not be double charged
It's me again, getting ready for tomorrow's snow fall, please, how do you change the small belt in the 625e, the manual does not show and there is no video. Do you know how??
For mine, the plastic ring inside the small pulley (that goes around the center bolt) is broken (and also has the similar black stuff around it that you have in your big pulley) so it won't turn and throw the snow. However, I am having a hard time finding the part for that.
Bought model sj623e a year ago, used it 3 times, this very issue happened. Applied JB Weld, held for a few passes, then failed. The pulley is garbage, and the fact that so many are experiencing the same tells me the product itself is garbage as well. It threw nicely while it worked, but this limited use of one of the most abused parts is simply a joke. Will look for a metal alternative, or will have to scrap the whole thing for something more reliable. Suddenly I became one of those guys reviewing something that I normally wonder if they have an axe to grind or real.
I have not look into auger, as the plastic pulley break yearly. In other word, the new plastic pulley break again 1 yr later. I pay extra attention this time to the type of snow I am shoving with it. The pulley seems like only able to handle thin and dried snow. I used it to throw wet and thick (as high as the auger), so the plastic melt again after few hours of such "abuse"
Thanks for the video. The design to use a plastic pulley is garbage. Mine stripped off the central nut as well and even with a new part will probably see this happen again very soon. So before I order a couple of pulleys from SnowJoe for $15 USD each, thought I'd give fixing it a shot first. Cleaned up the area around the nut that had plastic bits burned/sheared off with a razor blade, cleaned it up with alcohol, filled the gaps with epoxy, and for good measure stuck some small nails in gaps between the nut and the plastic pulley to take some of the load. Don't see it lasting long, but crossing my fingers. You can see my creation at imgur.com/a/Jr5NiL5
Sing-Cheong Chen: I recommend the putty type of High Heat epoxy. It's usually sold in the States at Auto stores (J-B Weld™). Also, drill small holes into the plastic pulley where epoxy will be applied; when pressed into place around the axle nut, the putty will grab into the plastic via these holes. Proper epoxy strengthening may actually cause the system to stall the motor when hard ice/snow is hit. This is much more desirable than breaking the pulley. If motor stalls, it stops running by tripping a thermal switch. This switch is easily reset after motor cools (1+ min later).

Thank you 🙏🏻 Your video is a big help 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for making it rocket science....

can you provide a link to the replacment part ?

Does anybody know the belt SIZE? I want to order one locally and part numbers won't cut it

I found the plastic pulley in Snow Joe online page and Amazon buy it is selling near $30. My complain in that it last only 1 year
Where did you buy the plastic circle???
Amazon can buy it. Snow Joe homepage can give you some info as well
how do you replace the small belt?
Unscrew the bolt shown in this video, and the belt will be removable

If I wanted to replace a broken auger, could I just take the pulley off and pull out the shaft that the auger rides on or is it much more complicated?

I will apply glues around the nut next time to strengthen that burn plastic area
Nice quick fix, but does anyone sell a metal one?

Trying to fix a snow blower with one hand. Get a fucking tripod.
