This worked for me! I called Snow Joe and because it was older than two years old and out of warranty they told me to trash it and buy another one. I came to UA-cam and found this video that did the trick. My piece was not proud like in the video, but a jiggle with the screw driver seemed to do the trick. Thanks for this video!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I had the exact same issue. I ended up pulling it completely apart then after resetting the brush, I ended up taping electrical tape around both brushes to hopefully keeping those brushes in place.
Tracker - thanks for the vidio. I had the same problem, had to take the Snowjoe apart just like you did to reach the carbon brush, pushed it back in - and the snowthrower works again. The assembly is on the bottom side and most likely would vibrate out again. I goobered the outside of the brush assembly and the plastic housing with silicone calk. The silicone should hold it in. If the brush assembly does vibrate out in the future, the silicone is easlly removable with a razer knife so I can do a repeat repair.
It appears that what you had in your hand was a carbon brush assembly. The carbon in the brush transmits current from the supply (power plug) to the field winding of the rotor in the motor. They are often held in place by a screw down bracket so they don't work loose due to vibration. Your brush obviously worked loose and by reseating it you put it back in contact with the motor.
Mine, the LED light does not turn on either. It is corded one. Is there any fuse in the hand switch/lever area as it appears there is no power supply to LED Light too
I had the same problem, all the sudden after stopping won’t start again. Lights and chute worked, meaning the battery had enough juice but auger wouldn’t turn. To solve the problem, I pressed the start (blue) button for 10-12 seconds to give the unit a “hard reset.”
@ Tracker Lounge That was pretty impressive on your part. I just purchased the same model a little over a month ago but haven't had an opportunity to use it yet. I have a 5 year old Toro 1800 powercurve electric which is pretty powerful but has a plastic auger. I also wanted something wider and with a taller intake.
@@puckme3117 After using the SnowJoe last winter, I tried using the Toro again, at first it was disappointing but then I found a groove with it, then after 5 years the plastic auger broke. I then purchased and replaced the auger and scraper, too late to use again for the season. So now I still have it to switch off with the Snow Joe this winter.
Couldn't find the carbon brush on mine, but my issue is that it starts up, runs for about a minute or less then slows down and shuts off. After that, it won't restart for about an hour. Only used 3 times last season :(
Does anyone know how to put back together the blue start button unit? I took mine apart and missed how the springs were placed and now I have no clue. :(
took mine apart ,got a spare belt, came w no light switch on deck,...is that brush supposed to snap in or be retained in some way, belt is 630mmx10mm pulley 5.5 in v belt shaft 14mx1.5 left hand, not much available parts dont use on heavy wet snow, youll melt the pulley, led lights are held with 2 screws but have to completely take apart like you did,and they have no replacement ,oh well, good for a driveway with dry snow, chute gear is plastic 😀
OK... I have one of these and its driving me CRAZY! I took apart the part that contains the squeeze handle that operates the auger. The unit did not work. Played around with the internals of this part and got it to work. Assembled it and mounted it back on the handle it stops working. Have repeated this process several times and every time same thing. Works when apart, stops working when assembled
The switch may not be activating; when you're putting the handle assembly together make sure that the switch is correctly positioned inside. You should be able to tell if the handle activates the on/off. If the handle just flops up and down, the switch is incorrectly positioned.
Found a little hole underneath. That is the reset button, just use a screw driver to poke it. That is the thing in the video that he pressed in. It must fell off when he took the cover off. No need to take apart.
Bought 3 pieces of Sunjo, not good items. You must purchase their highly priced batteries because they are not compatible with the other ones. 2 kobalt batteries equal the price of one Sunjo! Same 24 volt.😡

Great video...all the sensations of a prolonged visit to a dentist....but so much cheaper!

Old school brushes on the old starters when you could rebuild them
Same problem. THANK YOU! My 4th one with same issue.
Mine had the same problem!! Thanks for the video. I have mine up and running
Thanks! Feel empowered to give it a go!
Fingers crossed that's my problem. Thanks for the video

I also went from that same Toro to my newer machine a year ago. Same reasons too.

Where can I find a replacement brush ?

I will try this , cheers!
I had a burning smell and smoke coming from the left side. How do I fix that?
Sound like the drive belt on the left side. Your paddles have to much load on them!
You shold Show how did you Removed the Left and Right Side Cover! Thanks!
3 screws on side and 2 in back
My motor starts and auger turns for 2 seconds or less, then stops. With a burning smell. Anyone know what’s up with that?

..."spring job" lol
Piece O'Shit! Literally used 3 minutes on 4 inches of snow WITH the exact recommended extension cord!
