I spent 4.5 hours trying to texture a map outline I created in Illustrator. When I gave up and said oh well, I came across this tutorial- you’re the man - thank you for this!
@@JonathanWinbush throwing a last minute Hail Mary here. Anyway to take the map and use it on top of an outline of an area? Example take the topo map of the Grand Canyon and have it fit perfectly inside the shape of Arizona?
@@wanderingwaltons I'm not sure I understand but I don't believe there's any blend functions if thats what you meant. You'd have to probably manually make that part work.
Nice one buddy! quick question, is there a way to dynamically change tile detail? what i mean is, the closer you zoom in, can you lose the tiles out of shot, and add more detail to the tile in focus? that way you could get in the canyon without it looking shite, is this possible? or would it be an external compositing blend?
Yup but not only using dem earth. What I usually do is if i need to get really close I taje my model out of dem earth and bring it into world creator then sculpt it out from there.
Seriously cool! I noticed at 2:31 the last item on the list is Custom User Layer. Would you happen to know if that can be a custom user layer from Google Maps? It would be even cooler if I could use my own layers created on top of gmaps, like orthomosaic maps.
@@BogdanRunceanu actually just heard back from Paul not to long ago he said " it is currently not possible to import data from google earth, or google api "
@@JonathanWinbush well, then,.... Tough luck! Still, elevation data IS a great help. I can probably split the ortho projection into smaller pieces and throw it into Unreal, along with the rest of the assets. At least as a reference, it will still be useful. Thanks for the tutorials Winbush. Did you ever figure out what the deal is with the licensing of satellite data? I want to use this for broadcast, but I'm not sure if I can make use of it legally. Did you ever figure out if any of this map data is public domain?
Damm I need a client who would like to buy me this plugin hehe - they have some cool free plugins by the looks of the site - have you used any? Perhaps that kind of quick tip tutorial would be good for people who cannot afford DEM earth. I am saving for world creator 1st after doing a bit of comparison research. Thanks for the cool vid bro! Make sure you link the TV show when you are able to announce the details etc..
I haven't used any of the other plugins yet I only knew about Dem Earth because I bought it years ago for a project but if you using World Creator that's another one of my favorites I did a tutorial here how to use real map data with WC here as well ua-cam.com/video/_FBJyBrL8cQ/v-deo.html It's still a pretty good system the only advantage Dem Earth has is that it's able to build really large regions. I guess WC could do the same I'm just not sure where to get the map data for free from.
Aww here you go I didn't realized they announced it but I just wrapped on this show where I used Dem Earth ALOT www.travelchannel.com/shows/buried-worlds-with-don-wildman/articles/buried-worlds-with-don-wildman-premiere
DOwnloaded and isstalled the latest build of Dem earth, The Esri map option isnt available under the options. Do we need to do somethnhg to add it to the list? There is one for @Esri world hill shade but dont think thats the one, it also asks for API key so i cant check.
Hey buddy, great video! Question though, level 11 detail is not that high res close up. What if you need to have level 16 where the camera is looking, how would you have a higher res when you get close up? I am trying to render a map with all level 16 titles and my computer wont handle it. I have 2 Radeon VII and 64GB RAM & 18 Core CPU, how can this be? Thank you so much!
I believe the level is dependent on how much your scene is zoomed in on the Dem Earth parameter. As far as computer specs handling the scene that would be better served for the developer to answer I know he's been working on a few updates recently with better optimization
Does anyone have any insight into how to simply pay for map data so you can use for instance Google satellite data in a production? I looked on Google's pricing page, which was pretty amazingly opaque (they seem focused exclusively on web-usage and counting "number of downloads"). Other than that, when I try to google for answers it feels as if no one on earth has ever used Google Maps satellite data in a commercial DEM Earth project
yea I've ton a lot of animated maps in my career and I always have to end up creating my own terrain textures in photoshop then playing that overtop of the 3D mesh. I don't know what the price is but one of the show runners said they quoted them an insane amount per each time an episode aired that had google maps in here
I understand that. For tools like this I only make the purchase if the job I'm doing is going to more than cover the job in which I do a lot of map graphics so it was worth it in my case.

I like Dem Earth because I've used it for years for actual client work and yes even though the cost has gone up over the years it's made my life easier whenever I have to do any type of map work so I gladly pay the cost because I know I make that money back easily in my line of work plus I know a few developers so I know that creating and maintaining these plugins take a lot of work so I don't mind showing support because we all have to eat I know I wouldn't want clients asking me to work for free. Having options is good though so if there's a Blender plugin that does the same I'd gladly compare the 2 👊🏾
@@thewaliiiii support is optional at 149 per year. where do you get $340 a year from? that is simply not true. upgrades cost 99 EUR. if you upgrade from an old version, and your support has expired, its just 199, for a new version, a new account and a year of support. I barely cover my costs. The only one getting rich on this is Jeff at amazon..
@@CinemaPlugins what do you mean support is optional? The plugin doesn't function without support! My story with DemEarth: I bought it first around $300, used it 2 or 3 times that year. Then got the new C4D so I had to upgrade DemEarth because support told me the plugin is locked to one version of C4D. So I upgraded for another ~$100 and, then guess what, nothing worked, no maps were loaded, why? because I have to buy support to be able to load the maps! I decided not to spend any more money and it ended there. I liked the plugin, but unfortunately, the subscription plan is ridiculous.

How do you make with as much it high resolution as possible, i have a client who wants me to use it, and mind you, i’m using 3.70 with r20
Its pulling satellite data so it can only go so high
