If you see the run-down buildings, the sadness and the gray dirty streets, then you are living in a post-soviet country currently in war, with thieves for government and barely any hope for a better future. If you see the mosaics, concentrate on the beauty, and all the adventures like Bald and bankrupt, you're suddenly living the life of an adventurer, savouring all the (sometimes bittersweet) adventures. I did go off the beaten track, mingled with locals, rode on board old Soviet trams, masrutkhas, trains and met amazingly beautiful devushkas (women), genshenya (men), babushkas(old ladies) and tasted local fare at many flea markets and also the many famous 'Puxtata Kacha' outlets. The people are most friendly, helpful and curious about us far away foreigners. Ukraine is a huge, wonderful place to visit, safe to stay, rather cheap too! Young people dress well, people keep to themselves but are friendly and honest if you interact with them. The parks are nice and well maintained. Restaurants and coffee shops are all universally good. Maybe roads outside the city are bad, but in the city they are ok. There is a large population of university students. During Christmas, there was a large outdoor skating rink and Christmas lights which I loved. I liked Kharkov much better than Kyiv actually. I haven't visited Lyviv as yet, but heard that its nice. Seeing all the familiar sights, everything looking so close to home, seeing you driving past that road and walking down it, talking about how there's a war going on just a dozen miles away in a place that looks so frightfully familiar... made this all seem so surreal and very scary
Thank you for making this video
