- The hand cannon is a very underrated weapon in Destiny. So let's cut to the chase...which hand cannon is the best legendary hand cannon?

I don't have devil you know, but I got Fatebringer from the raid (only dropped by killing Templar, on hard only I believe) and it's easily the best hand cannon I've seen.

Sweeet Datto! Stoked you made this vid. I have both of these and this issue has been puzzling me... Though, my Lord High Fixer has 'Kills add ammo directly to the magazine' and 'kills reduce the cooldown of your grenade'. So I'm still a little torn, but still, awesome info man-

Got Hawkmoon as a drop second day from launch amazing weapon , had The Devil You Know broke it down to upgrade Hawkmoon lol , but now looking for a Legendary handcannon and will be purchasing The Devil you Know thanks for the review Datto alot of good information

Been hyped for this video for a while. Great to see that I made a good choice when I decided to go for the DYK. I've also found it easier to get vanguard reputation vs crucible, but harder to get marks. I do love using hand cannons though, since it feels rewarding to get those headshots, and the 1 hit kill on goblins, vandals etc is cool, as well as the bodyshot kill on most dregs and thralls.

I actually bought The Lord High Fixer for defending the Confluxes in the Raid during the Templar engagement. I would often times not notice a Vex teleported onto the Conflux and started sacrificing itself because I was ads.
So you mentioned Timur's Lash. I know you stated mag size as the reason to not consider it but after reforging mine through iron banner I received one with outlaw and crowd control plus field scout giving it 13 rounds. This has to make it a contender!
The last word is the best (IMO) in pvp while aiming down sights...

I agree. I don't have it, but I'm pretty good at Destiny, I win probably 19 out of 20 free for alls. But twice I have come across people who have it and I stood no chance. There were times where he's not even looking at me and im getting straight head shots and then all of the sudden I'm dead. It's insane, it's has a shorter time to kill than most weapons even with just body shots.

I got the devil you know from the vanguard a while back and havent looked back since the only time i dont use it is in the raid killing oracles with my vision of confluence or when the nightfall has solar burn. Great video and sick looking hand cannon. Now you just need to do some finishing work on it. keep up the amazing work and thank you
It would be nice to do a speculative video where you speculate on what perks would make a hand cannon better given that particular hand cannon's stats. Or even, the ideal perks. You could extend this to the other weapon types too.
I already had a Lord High Fixer and love it but I didn't realise how good Devil You Know was. I'll definitely have to get myself one.
I got the Devil You Know as a random drop and got the "Clown Cartridge" and "Grenadier" bonuses :) I know some people don't like the Firebold Warlock 'nade, but using that with Heart of Praxic Fire, the "Grenades ignite enemies" bonus in the subclass with a high discipline build. It's amazing!!! You just chuck a nade any time there's a group of weeklings and they all die.

i started out with hand cannons in PvE, but i came to a point were they stopped oneshotting lesser enemies/had tiny magazine sizes. gonna work out those last 33 marks to buy the devil you know though today :D

I got a devil you know from the nightall that had the exact same primary upgrades as the purchasable lord high fixer, and with the secondary upgrade perfect balance I've gotta say it's possibly the longest efficient range hand cannon I've ever used.
I have a maxed out my Chance, and I love it, and I don't find the clip size a problem since I have chain of woe (gunslinger) and gauntlets that increase hand cannon reload speed. Also the first major perk for The Chance is the spray and play, which makes reload lightning fast when the clip hits zero. If you're a gunslinger that uses chain of woe don't ignore this gun. I find it more nimble than the devil you know, and the grenadier perk the gun has is awesome. You'll basically always have a grenade available.

I've always loved hand cannons used them since I got the game. I enjoy higher impact rather than rate of fire, it just takes people out faster with precision kills.
I agree mostly with what you say. I use the vanguard handcannon as well and it is awesome. I used Venation (Dead Orbit) for some time (random drop) and it was pretty good as well but I had to use it with the upgraded mag that gave me 13 shots. Without that upgrade it just doesn't have enough bullets.
I LOVE using the thing I ether role with Hawkmoon or Lord High Fixer depending on what exotic is more useful...
I got The Last Word from the raid last week, and I have to say that it's pretty great. The ability to fire the weapon so fast gives it some innate versatility, making it a great primary for both PvE and PvP.

I have "Last Word" and it is very situational. I'm not going to go into the upgrades, just an overview.
Pros: Not only does it fire rapidly, it fires automatically. Hold the trigger and it continues to fire until it empties or you let up on the trigger. If you practice with it, you can learn to eliminate groups of enemies very quickly. Just think of it as a slower firing, but higher impacting, more agile version of Swarm, but with only 8 in a mag. It can be very effective in PVP as long as you're using it on maps where don't need the range, and I often use it when grinding PVE bounties. Also it has a snazzy deploy animation, though not very useful.
Cons: Range and impact are not as good as the other hand cannons Datto reviewed. I would not take it on raids or use it where range is important. Reload speed is slow for something that empties so quickly. But in many situations you can eliminate most of what's shooting at you, and then have plenty of time to prepare lunch while waiting for the reload animation to finish.
Impressions: After using it for a short while I thought of it more as a novelty, but not really useful except it's a lot of fun to play with. But after grinding with it for PVE bounties, and using it in PVP, I've learned to use it more effectively and that's pretty much the roles it serves now. More than just a novelty, but not quite the go-to primary weapon.

Hmm, I never thought to use hand cannons. But they do seem to have their uses. I just picked up the thorn exotic bounty today, I know it only has 6 shots in the chamber, but it'll be a nice gun to start out with for sure. Nice video btw.
Its the best for PvP. Dont let the 6 bullets chamber and long reload time fools you, specially if you are a hunter.
Tortugostalker yeah thats mainly why I got it honestly. I have a lvl 28 titan that I'm trying to get to 30. After that, I planned on making a hunter. I already have an exotic helmet, legendary chest piece, and patience and time waiting for him when he hits 20 lol.

I have both and 100% agree here. I currently got another TDYK but it has a much faster reload with precision shots so i might have to level yet ANOTHER TDYK to 300. bah!

I have Devil You Know and Lord High Fixer. I love the fixer for PvP, and DYK for PvE.
Whats your thoughts on "Hard Light" I have it maxed with the stabilty buff and at close to medium range it does a heap of damage.
Timur's Lash actually has the highest impact of any handcannon in the game, and because it can be reforged, you can easily get Field Scout to make up for the ammo count.

Hey could you do a video about all the guardian types? Like show a video about the armor, recovery, and agility. From what I see, armor has only a lil effect in pvp, recovery is uber useful, and agility serves no point in crucible. Just a thought

The thing is, I swear the upgrades on vendor guns have changed once. I remember seeing the invisible hand shotgun with two range upgrades and then recently it doesn't have them anymore.
I have 13 shots in my 'Chance' after unlocking the extra ammo perk. I didn't buy this though, it was a random drop from the Nightfall last week. I love the gun!
I got The Devil You Know in the post for achieving Vanguard rank 3. Will this change the upgrades.
I've used the Last Word in PvE, and it's pretty solid. It takes one shot to kill most things, and chews up packs of enemies very reliably. The good part is that you can also take advantage of the high rate of fire on enemies that take more than one shot.

I got lucky with a TDYK drop, it had the perks of 1. causing damage with this gun grants bonus ammo directly to the mag, and 2. missing a shot has a chance to return it to the mag. It doesn't have the scope that i like on my current TDYK though :(
I personally adore The Chance.
The tiny magazine forces me to make every shot count, and the wonderfully fast reload when it's empty is satisfying.
Not saying that you're wrong, I have a few hand cannons that are statistically better in every single way (Hawkmoon!) but The Chance is special to me.

I love Lord High Fixer it was my first legendary from an engram and first legendary in general.
You might get different upgrades from the postmaster but when I got the Christmas Legendary I got a Devil You Know and got only 6 bullets in a mag so I thought the ammo Increase was very helpful
Great vid. I think it's worth mentioning that the Gunslinger's Chain of Woe buff changes the game for Hand Cannons, making guns like the Thorn much more playable. If you have armor that buffs Hand Cannon reload plus CoW, the reload is practically instant.
Honestly whoever came up with hunters must have had a purely PVP class in mind. I just about finished leveling my hunter to 29 and after having played both warlock and titan beforehand I could easily say almost all of the hunter skills are pvp based.
I think the keys to Gunslinger in PvE are understanding that Golden Gun is for mobs, not bosses, and using all of your precision perks to make all of your guns more OP than the other classes.
Yeah that's true, but even with chain of woe or even force barrier for titans, thorn is still outclassed by many hand cannons, especially in pve
Aisultan SUltangaliev Gunslinger is a Solo PvE class, the Chain of Woe and Gunslinger's Trance is meant for killing mobs with headshots then switching to HMG and using that reload speed and stability to shred a boss
Nelson Blake II Are you kidding!? The golden gun is not for mobs. Your hand cannon is for mobs, the golden gun is your back-up kryptonite for wizards. I rarely use my golden gun, relying instead on the pursuit of perfection in precision.
I think the khvostov is a great pvp weapon. Datto please test this.
What are the best random bonuses for hand cannons like red hand
I don't know if you have any means to, but you should totally try to paint that up to be like an in game version, or close to maybe.

Hand Cannons are fun but I still like my Shadow Price/Pocket Infinity combo in the Crucible.
I have the Chance with a max ammo upgrade. I am not there yet so don't know how much is upgraded to. It also has the random bullet has bonus damage like the Hawkmoon
I have lord High Fixer with these perks
1. Reloading can grant larger mad 11-14
2. reloading after kill grants bonus damage

When I got to rank three Future War Cult, the game gave me The Chance hand cannon. And in the second column it has the field scout upgrade which gives it 13 rounds in a mag. I have it fully upgraded and i find it to be really good in PvE. Do you think i should save the vanguard marks and get The Devil You Know, or should I just stick with The Chance?
I got really lucky, getting a Venation III with Return to Sender, Mulligan, and the choice between either Field Scout, Perfect Balance, or some other perk that doesn't do much.
Basically, that means that I get Venation III with the ability to get bonus ammo delivered directly to the magazine from either getting a kill, or missing a shot. Combine that with Field Scout (which is often a useless perk), and instead of 8 rounds, you get 13 rounds in the magazine that can often take a while to empty out, regardless of if you miss or get a kill. Or, if you only need the 8 rounds, you can choose to have Perfect Balance, which gives Venation III 100% stability.
I have had some of the luckiest drops in Destiny:
2 No Land Beyonds (I kept one, and dismantled the other) - both were from a Nightfall
Prestige IV - with Field Scout perk, giving it *150 rounds* in the magazine
Don't Touch Me - from a Nightfall or Exotic Engram from Xur (I can't remember which)
The Last Word - from the second reward screen after my *worst ever* Crucible round
3 Atheon's Epilogues - 1 from my *first Normal* VoG and 2 from my *first Hard* VoG
Fatebringer and Hezen Vengeance - also from my *first Hard* VoG
Dogged Gate and Song of Ir Yût - from my *first Normal* Crota's End
Unyielding Casque - from my *second Normal* Crota's End
Here's the kicker:
A few weeks ago, I picked up a Legendary Heavy Weapon Engram in the middle of a Nightfall. I thought to myself, "Ok, that's pretty cool, but I don't *need* a new Legendary Heavy Weapon, I already have plenty of them. If only it were for a Legendary Special Weapon; I've been needing a new Shotgun or Sniper." So, I eventually forgot about it, until I was wrapping things up later that day in the Tower. I immediately went to the Cryptarch, and decrypted all of my other engrams (saving the best for last).
Finally, I decrypt the engram, not expecting to get anything very good, and get none other than the Gjallarhorn.
Sorry if I'm just bragging and making you jealous, but *none* of my friends play Destiny, so I don't really have anyone else to tell this to.
Even after TDB, Lord High Fixer is a beast. Radar and 11 shots with fast reload is sick. I switch to SEND IT on larger maps. Pick a Plan C or Pocket Infinity to compliment it.
I got the hawkmoon and the last word, hawkmoon is a beast in PVE and PVP! Didn't like the last word that much:P

I got my Devil You Know from an Engram, so I've got the random bonuses. One of them being the explosive rounds like Fatebringer. I love it - Though I just got Hawkmoon from this week's Nightfall sooooo.. Devil You Know is going into retirement.
Is that dead orbit shotgun from a vendor or random drop? Is it worth buying?
I got a red hand IX back in the day when it was 300 attack with rangefinder, max ammo (which brings mag size up to 13) , and crowd control. I kept it because legendaries were rare to get and u couldn't reroll them, now that it's at 365 attack I can't believe how amazing it is. It does 2265 critical damage with crowd control active on a lvl 28 red health bar enemy and 112 damage with crowd control active in pvp. Although I still can't beat thorn with it
What do you guys think is the best subclass for Titan? Defender or Striker?
I have been rocking the chance stacking increased reload off of chain of woe, increased reload speed from gloves and increased reload from empty mag. So in pve it's else to get over but pvp no matter how fast reload is, that one sec or lack of ammo could be a death on you.

i honestly dont know why you ruled out venation. i got my venation by hitting dead orbit 3 and my venation has field scout and goes from 8 to 13. so it has the same mag size as hawkmoon.
My version of The Chance has a perk which gives it 13 bullets instead of 6. It also has the perfect balance perk and quickdraw.
Same ammo perk on the version of timurs legend that I have. Holds 13 sometimes more
What is the best legendary scout rifle or auto rifle?
I only have Red Hand IX and is currently the only hand cannon, I have at the moment. Anyone have any recommendations what to use it for(PvE or PvP)?

Got Timur's - Field Scout, mag is now 13
- Clown Cartridge, mag can proc for 16 bullets.
- Crowd Control, damage increase after a kill.
95 Headshot damage ALL THE TIME in crucible, 111 after a kill for as long as you chain. Superbly consistent.
..And I now realise how fortunate I was to get this combo xD
You gotta get a paint job on that Hand Cannon asap!
Then again, Timur's Lash with Field Scout is the best. Don't even need other good perks, it even out damages Hawkmoon (non magic bullets, at least).
