Hey MCM Gang. We're making our own mods by dumpster diving for this new series on the Peugeot, while the Swift will get legit JDM parts before they go head to head in a Cash vs Trash final battle. We hope you enjoy it! Wanna support the show? We've got a new range of all black merch which you can check out here and it'd make our day if you grabbed something. Thank you! mightycarmods.com/collections/black-edition
I like this but once its all over I would also like to see what happens if the cars are switched. Of course that would involve buying two sets of mods each - so probably a no go on financial grounds - but it might give a better idea if it was the money or the chassis' adapting to mods giving the edge.
Its funny you say that the Swift gets JDM race part.. here in Europe the Swift is something your granny drives, and the Peugeot 206 is the one where you can get everything from rally to race parts, a little bit like a Civic but more rally
Slide hammer? Check. Fire? Check. BF hammer? Check. Knuckle rash, frustration and despair? Check. Driving down the road with unequal height rears due to not marking the splines? Check. Ahh the fun of torsion bars in pugs...so much joy happiness and strong sense of inner wellbeing.
OEM+ is always a good starting point for a cheap wheel upgrade. If there are higher trim levels of your car that have better factory wheels, you can sometimes pick them up cheap through online marketplaces or even at the junkyard.
This. On my mitsubishi (legnum) i put EVO 8 enkei wheels because the fitment is perfect, found them for a great price and they are a quality cast. On my Talon I put Stealth wheels because again, fitment is perfect and price was amazing. I don't find it reasonable to spend thousands on brand new wheels and tires. I always buy 2nd hand because it's what I can afford and it's better for the environment. Keep recycling, one man's trash is another man's treasure!
Certainly. Sometimes, you can also get wheels that are a huge upgrade from another model from the same make. Example: my 2005 Subaru Outback XT has 17" wheels from a 2013 Subaru BRZ. They fit perfectly and are a great upgrade for the car. Better Tire options and OEM impact resistance help greatly.
I thought that about the delta looking wheels, compomotive? I bet they're a nightmare to get all the brake dust out of, good shout getting them in black
No disespect to the MCM boys...but...... it deffinitely worked when donut media did it......multiple times....to the point it became a regular series for them.

Man I'm struggling, got a Saab 900 Aero 4x108. Fucking pain trying to get some nice looking mesh wheels for it, ended up buying some BBS knock offs but it was such a headache
Absolutely glad you gents are drawing a line at safety. Those pot-metal rims Marty found could turn a car into a death-trap on the track all by themselves, even if everything else was good.
This is going to be a great series. I like the idea of bringing in a specialist to deep dive on the difference between approaches, rather than just putting them on and forgetting about them. Great concept - more please. Cheers.
Thank you. Last year I got hurt badly. I can't work at the moment and I can't accept that. I've been trying my hardest to turn a few year old hobby leather craft into a job feeling I have no choice. I've been battling the doubts of if my work is good enough. I needed that inspiration today so badly. Thank you.
Tires are a huge game changer and I think using the same one is a good call. I would love to see the difference on both cars lap times from the excellent Michelins and a more budget option
back to your roots, cheap nuggets, cheap stuff. this is the kind of stuff that made you guys what you are today, and seeing that you never lost the passion for nuggety cars simply makes me happy. you guys are the reason I wasnt ashamed to show up at meets with a cheap toyota echo (vitz outside america) on reps with sticky tires ,and I enjoyed those moment shared with other enthusiast. Now, I bought brand new, a 2023 mitsubishi mirage, one of the last subcompact in america to be sold with a manual, and growing up watching you made me realise, I dont need a 300hp car to enjoy doing roadtrips, and its not too stupid to throw my money at a good set of tires for my nuggets, since I'll enjoy those moment spent running backroads even if my car as ridiculous body roll. thanks for all thoses years, inspiring us to do stupid stuff.
I used factory enki mags from a later model sport spec Honda on my Jazz, from 185 x 15 to 205 x 16 and added A003 tyres. Keeping factory, is cheap, 4 wheels with half worn tyres $ 200-00 on Gumtree. No curb rash, no chips or scratches. And same car later model no issues with fit at all. All up wheels and tyres $1065. As the boys say, big difference.
Hopefully since this is a shorter episode, we'll get more frequent uploads! I definitely agree with the comments on the wheels. Quality is king. I had a set of Volk SE37K's, two got bent due to unavoidable road damage & other than some discoloration to the bronze finish the repairs were perfectly executed, unfortunately it also costs allot of money to repair Forged wheels.
Love to see you doing new stuff lads, keep doing this for as long as you can, I'll be watching for as long as you do. I'd love if you did another trip to Europe sometime, I'd definitely use it as an excuse for a road trip to see you in person. 👍
Stock take-off's from some of the higher end/trim models of vehicles is an excellent way to beat the system! You get well made alloy wheels for dirt cheap as alot of people with the fancy cars go aftermarket.
the 206 would absolutely dominate with the starting price difference put into performance parts. I would have loved to see it, but I guess they didn't go that way.
Feel like I have to say that the issue with Marty's wheel cracking is nothing whatsoever to do with it being made of recycled metal, it's about the ductility of the metal (how far it will deform before fracturing). Those cheap (and old wheels) would have been cast and cooled very quickly, which results in larger crystalline structure of the metal and as a result, lower ductility.
Wheels are definitely one of those things I always spends money on, I've had too many bad experiences with cheap wheels. My tip would be to buy good wheels second hand, if you know whay you're looking for you can get some really good deals
Can't wait to see Marty's surprise when he sees how a 206's rear suspension works. Fully independent trailing arms and yet you can't run coilovers since it uses torsion bars. Or more likely, he mistakes it for a torsion beam like a Yaris.
4x108 was used on the Ford Contour/Mondeo and Ford Focus. I bought a Contour that the previous owner had put BBS wheels on. Sold the wheels for more than I paid for the car. :D
Love this concept 🤩 Find it funny that the 4x108 pattern is uncommon in Australia, here in Scandinavia there is a overflow of lightweight racing wheels with 4x108 stud patters. And I know this since my Ford Mundane ST200 is 4x108. Keep up the awesome show!
It is the same story as the replacement / custom parts for the peugeot. Uncommon in Australia, quite common in Europe. You see the same here for japanese performance cars though. Everything here seems to be German cars.
For a budget track car I d go with big steelies. They are cheap, repairable and oftentimes lighter than stock alloy wheels. And with a lick of paint they usually look okay
when you throw €3000 into the 206... it starts to be fun. b12 suspension, harder stabilizers... finished head (catcam) and modified intake and exhaust system... it costs way under €3000. this tu5jp is a very good engine
Yaaah about the wheels. Not sure exactly what wheel Marty found, but if it's indeed a Rota, that's actually pretty good wheel for the money. The Weds are forged, which is where the additional strength comes from. The Rotas, if they are Rota, are cast. Cast will break before a forged wheel. This is not new. Having said that, there are many, many people that are running Rotas on the street with no problem, using them for autocross with no problem, and even tracking them. They are a great lower cost alternative to a forged wheel. If you have the money, obviously go with a forged wheel. If spending that much on wheels isn't in the budget right now, Rotas are not a bad option. Those wheels Marty found clearly had some previous issues, especially if one was already buckled. Also, at the speeds those cars will be going around a track, a set of new Rotas will work just fine.
I would have thought a bit "outside the box" with the wheels , I would have looked for a hub with the same stud pattern as the swift for the Purjo , then made them fit with a bearing resize or a bit of machining to suit if needed . That would make for a cheaper swap over even with a bit of machining paid for with a set of second hand wheels because of the availability of that stud pattern using second hand hubs 😉. It would be even better if you have the skills and tooling to machine the parts yourself or have a good friend that can do it for mates rates as I do .
When you have to send out parts for machining, things quickly become uncheap. The hubs would need to match the CV splines and have the correct offset, and then you'd need to redrill the disks and drums to match.
Im part of the Swift community in Singapore and I've had 2 of those ZC31s before. It's interesting to see your track builds going for really expensive 17" TC105s, as most (if not all) track build ZC31s' here in Asia are running on 15" or maximum 16" wheels. The most notorious ones here in Singapore run 15" wheels so it'll be interesting to see how your build turns out! I used to run 17s and 16s on mine and I've got to say I preferred my 16s. Maybe if you had a 15" wheelset lying around, it might be interesting to compare them!
I tend to agree. It's somewhat looks vs performance here as well as tyre choice. I think you can't get pilot sports in less than a 17", so that is prob a factor if they are sponsoring. I put 13" rims on my mini back in the day and it looked spectacular, but compared to a lightweight 10" minilite, the handling (and gearboxes!) suffered.
@@richardallen1629 If you specifically want Pilot Sports then you are stuck with 17s, but there are high performance road legal tyres available in 15" and 16" (higher performance than Pilot Sports, at least in dry conditions).
Funny to hear that 4*108 is rare in australia, here in france i had trouble to find cheap 4*100 for my ae82, but there's lots of 108 in the second hand market x)
It's a shame they seem to be throwing the 206 under the bus, it's definitely the less popular car but it's a bit of an underdog, would like to see a Peugeot win back some bit of cred. Hope they don't just end up scrapping it or something at the end of this series.
Always cash over trash for wheels. 18 lb wheels vs 33 lb wheels and you notice a huge difference in getting power to the ground. Thanks for sharing guys. Funny that the pug gets the trash parts 😂
You guys rock. Been watching for quite a few years now and just this week am about to pull the trigger on some APEX sm-10’s for my Mk6 GTI. This video was perfect timing.
I'm really excited to see this series, looking good! Maybe a quick explanation about unsprung weight when comparing the weight of the wheels would be good, adding 4 kg on the wheels is not the same as carrying it inside the car.
Rotas are fine for the track over here most guys use rotas on the track with no issues at all basically rotas are copies of something but with strict quality control they’re even JAWA certified
Damn, this series will be like the track car series that Donut Media made. Cheap vs. expensive mods. A nice format indeed, and I am curious to see how the cars turn out in the end 😁😁
Yes, you can absolutely build a decent car with trash and cheap marketplace parts. My turbo miata is mostly built with second hand parts that I've collected from wrecks of bargains I've got off marketplace
I just got a set of 18x9.5 TC105X wheels for my 18 STi and it saved 45 lbs (20.4 kilos) over the stock 19x8.5 inch wheels. Yes they are expensive but you certainly get what you pay for.
Citroen C5 "steelies" is where it's at for the Peugeot. 15", 4x108, dirt cheap cuz look like steel wheels, but actually aluminium alloy and crazy light, lighter than Ultraleggeras and other expensive ones.
As much as this is definitely a copycat homework situation these guys have been doing it for so much longer and there's so much more high-quality content and better personalities I'd watch mighty car mods a million times over the other guys
I grabbed a set of Volvo wheels for £20 before, drove absolutely miles to get them. I also own a French car that shares a stupid stud pattern with Fords.
I'm beyond excited for this new series! Clever, fun, and interesting! I'm rooting hard for trash let's goooo! Reminds me of the epic 3k battle of Wasaabi vs 2sexy!
Personally I think a cheap wheel is the way to go. Sure its a little heavier but if it actually took a hit, i would just buy a whole new set for the cost of one good wheel. I wouldnt run any wheel after a big impact. The quality isnt truly that bad. Ive bought a few sets of "B" grade wheels and ive been satisfied with them all
Please, stop hating little Peugeot. It's not a JDM legend. Period. Because it's a good car for an affordable money made for city living. Not for hitting lap times all around the planet Earth. But it gives you the same amount of juice as much more expensive and much more modern car. Take care and I'm waiting for the next one. Greetings from Belarus
@@DashCamSerbia the main feature is that Peugeot suspension has a torsion bar. And modernization (if it's real) of such kind of suspension is not a simple installation of coil-overs. And it has a little bit tricky construction as well
@@DashCamSerbia fair enough. But adjustability of this tuning will be far enough from what UA-cam racers want to (I'm talking about boys who know how to race just watching yt videos)
I love how we see youtube videos of something that used to resemble a wheel and people repair unimaginable damage. Here we have the expert and he cant fix a crack... The cheap wheels will absolutely work with a professional repair. Also wouldn cost as much as another 2nd hand car.
This is goijg to be an awesome series! I agree that wheels and tires are something to spend money on. When i got new wheels for my 2020 Civic, I got a set of Motegi Racing MR131 Traklite wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich GForce Comp 2 A/S+. I got cheaper tires because they had better tread wear that something nice and high end like PS4s or something. Plus, the BFGs are $185USD vs $300+ for PS4s. Those Motegi's did save some weight! Stock size, but 11lbs(4.9kg) lighter per corner. Definitely feels better than stock!

This gave me super early on MCM vibes! Loved it! Very excited for this series.
12:01 hard to beat off… the line 🤣 well played… well… played…
I'm on/off with watching MCM but I will not miss a video on this series!
Yeah I completely loved the show and I completely love the idea of it altogether
Great opportunity to explain exactly why cheap crap is just a waste of money when it comes to cars. "Do it right, do it once." ✌
"Out of the bin!"
Love the concept of this series.
Lovely, can't wait to see where this goes
"Hard to beat off...the line"🤣
The Peugeot is already perfect and fast so it doesn't need expensive parts 😂 But that swift is going to need a lot to compete against the Peugbro 🏎️
I just got a set of 18x9.5 TC105X wheels for my 18 STi and it saved 45 lbs (20.4 kilos) over the stock 19x8.5 inch wheels. Yes they are expensive but you certainly get what you pay for.
Hell yeah, Australian HiLow!
Citroen C5 "steelies" is where it's at for the Peugeot. 15", 4x108, dirt cheap cuz look like steel wheels, but actually aluminium alloy and crazy light, lighter than Ultraleggeras and other expensive ones.
Donut's High/Low but the Low is actual trash, I love it
As much as this is definitely a copycat homework situation these guys have been doing it for so much longer and there's so much more high-quality content and better personalities I'd watch mighty car mods a million times over the other guys
Oh I'm fired up for this series!!
Aww I would've been awesome if the cash went on the Peugeot 😂 Awesome series guys, keep it!
Absolutely fantastic editing!
This episode brings me back to the old cable car shows I used to watch, meaning I feel like I just watched a long commercial.
Awesome! Loving the new series
TC105N (and X) are one of the best wheels ever made. I love my TC105N’s on my DC5. They really suit the car.
Best content in ages. You're on to a winner.
206 has an independent rear suspension, so it is actually good for the track too.
@@DashCamSerbia the main feature is that Peugeot suspension has a torsion bar. And modernization (if it's real) of such kind of suspension is not a simple installation of coil-overs. And it has a little bit tricky construction as well
@@pasha_karandash Well, you don't need coilovers, just the shock absorbers.
Maaaan that editing is tight. It's better than most TV.
I've been watching religiously for a few years now, just started going back to watch every episode, I'm on season 8 right now!
Excited for this series
Great idea for a series concept! I'm looking forward to this,
This is goijg to be an awesome series!
Marty's IN THE BIN
considering the wildly different stock wheels i wonder if not the track times would close in allot simply because of the added corner traction
Would have liked to seen the same cars like HiLow cause I know this will be a better series.. but I take what I can get from MCM
A little high car low car action!
