My dealership charged me $110 on top of my platinum warranty to tell me that I needed a new spark plug and wanted $280 to swap them out. Thank you so much for the video!
Hey Buddy... I kinda figured the plugs were under that cover lol... Thanks for the vid though it's appreciated. also here's a tip for any other "NEW" Journey owners. If you're wondering where the bloody battery is hahahahaha it's in front of the drivers side front tire. Pop the plastic plugs out and you'll see it sitting in there all nice a neat like but you will have to remove the tire.. Cars have sure come a longs ways since wrenching on the 4-6-8 cyl's in the old days hahaha. Now you have to watch youtube to find out where all the parts are located in all vehicles because they're sure not where you'd expect them to be. OH YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also for fuse boxes ???? There's the standard big one under the hood on the left side but "ALSO" there's a fuse box with about 30 more fuses up under the glove-box on the right hand side. Just pull down the carpet piece and you'll see it nice and tucked up under there I'm sure just to make it bloody difficult for us backyard guys. Cheers
I recently got a 2013 dodge journey v6. i needed to change the spark plugs and there's no way I would have been able to if not for you guys and these videos. thank you very much. it took me 3 and a half hours in the cold. but it runs like a champ. if you guys ever do a video on hooking up a LOC to the amp under the seat rather than behind the stock head unit then I'll watch that as well. I'm sure I'll end up watching all your videos haha
I learned the hard way, never assume. ALWAYS check the gap on new spark plugs even though they are supposed to be set at the factory. Some slip by and the gap setting is wrong.
This is true. Dodge Journey Spark Plugs should be set at 0.044. Some pregapped spark plugs come in at 0.03 or 0.05 and will still fit in the spark plug housing. Its best to check them EVERY TIME and not assume
great video. i wanna do this myself as well because i know Dodge will ask for my first born for payment. 2 questions. i have a 2014 Dodge R/T AWD. is the prodedure the exact same ? and my Journey has 46,ooo Kms on it, and have not yet changed the spark plugs. How do i know if the spark plugs need changing ? thanks.
yes red tad pull back to unlock then push gray tab its between the back of the red tab you pulled back and the wires coming out . it has ridges on it.at 124 he puts is finger right on it that is the release point. Also put anti seize on spark plugs threads before putting them back.
When replacing the spark plugs, a common mistake people make is use anti-seize on them. Rightly so they want to prevent the plugs from seizing inside the head. Maybe it is a good idea with crappy plugs and an old iron head but you should never do this with a VG30E motor and NGK plugs. Using anti-seize on spark plugs will do the following: Alters the tightening torque by up to 20% which may cause over-tightening (or breaking the spark bolt) Reduces electrical ground contact if the anti-seize is non-conductive or semi-conductive (reduced spark possible) Isolates more heat into the spark plug therefore causing the plug to increase the heat range above specification (can cause detonation/pre-ignition) Creates a big goopy mess when tightening The thing with NGK plugs is that they are already self-lubricating and corrosion resistant. They have to be installed dry. Never put anti-seize on them. I used to only coat the washer but as of recently found no need to even do that. Change those plugs once in awhile and they will never seize up and you get great gas mileage.
@@daddywillfixit Good answer regarding the anti-seize. I agree. But i was wondering what is your recommendation for using dielectric grease? I see you mentioned it in this video but it was unclear and where it would be ideal to add some...Around the outside of the ignition coils? Inside the hole of the ignition coils (which cover the installed plugs)?
Thank you so much! Very specific video. Thumbs up!
I love that people like you save me so much money by teaching me how to do it myself. It's very empowering feeling to able to do this stuff.
Thanks so much for your video. Changed my spark plugs in 30 minutes. Very well explained 🥰🥰🥰

Thanks for the video! Dodge wanted $170 to change mine. Less than an hour of work... Man dealerships really screw customers.
Hanks thanks so much man really needed this

great, helpful, money saving video. do you have any any info on changing an alternator for a 2014 dodge journey sxt 3.6L?
Mine is a 2013 and has the v6 also

Great info see I learned something new today.
Yes they recommended
every 30k to change.

Great job very accurate and clear video👍👍
if they are iridium, i wonder why the manufacturer says to replace them every 30k miles. i thought that low number was typical of copper plugs.
The original ones provided by manufacturer ARE copper (NGK Vpower). The guy in this video is upgrading to Iridium spark plugs.
what do you think about the 4 cyl engine. Are they any good? What about power/acceleration
+Dennis M it does lack power, I would rather the 6cy. This is my wife's vehicle and it is just fine for her. She loves it
Great video!
thank you, was one of my first ones. sorry for the bad quality.
thanks for the video but couldn't listen to you huff and paint through the whole thing
