This video was incredibly helpful! Dealer wanted $500 to change the plugs. I bought the good plugs for $50 and did it myself using this video as reference. Thanks much!
This video was super awesomesauce lol. I been trying to figure this out because like another I read there's not too many videos out there for the journey. Extremely helpful. This video saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks a million!
Thanks for sharing! I changed the spark plugs while replacing the EGR valve. Having the intake removed provided much needed clearance for the EGR valve. The vehicle runs like a champ now.
Yup, video helped. The 3 back plugs were where I thought they were, but knowing what harnesses, hoses, and where those back bolts are was helpful. Thanks! Especially since they have not made a Haynes manual for this vehicle yet.
This is a very helpful video seeing that it's the only one that showes you how to take it apart but to get the gold pipe to come out the top part you twist the pipe I found out the hard way by removing my egr value but you can just twist the pipe back
Awesome. Not many vids on the internet for the Journey. This one helps tremendously. Been wanting to replace the plugs, but wasn't sure how to get to the back three. As another poster stated, what a bunch of idiots, whomever designed it that way.
Just used this video to change the spark plugs/coils on my 2008 Chrysler Sebring 3.5. Thank You!. I will say those back two 13 mm bolts were a pain in the rear. On the Sebring there are air conditioning lines in the way.
The passenger side is the worst. I could get the bolt off myself but had to have my wife’ finger tighten the bolt back on. My advise is to find someone with small arms to assist. My arms were skinned up from reaching back there so much
I sure wish you would of included video of you actually making an attempt in taking out the back 13mm bolts. Any reason why you didn't? I haven't found one video on the internet of it actually being done and I've searched over 3 days. Everything else you shown is a piece of cake and was very helpful.
I just reached around the side of the engine. I thought it more important to tell the location as it was hard for me to find them in the first place...also on my left arm I had a cast on my wrist / arm, and it was quite difficult for viewing and manuverbility.
I suggest you loosen the two 8 mm bolts holding the tube to the EGR valve so you don’t damage the gasket at the EGR when you pull the tube from the intake manifold on the right side. Otherwise you will get a 0406 code and and engine light sometime in the near future.
How in God's name did any of you get the two 13mm bolts out the back? I managed the one on the passenger side but I've lost sockets and ripped my arm apart trying an open ended wrench. Please any suggestions?
Tony, I feel your pain...literally. My arm is tore slap up right now from getting to that bolt. I know you ask this a year ago, but the way I got it was a short flex ratchet and deep well 13mm. And I broke that damn tab off that keep cutting the hell out of me.
Thanks for the video. Do you have any experience changing the heater hose that goes from the engine to the heater core with a plastic Y piece. The shop wants 540 bucks to change the hose out. Ughh.
Brandon Ross yes its a pain in the rear.....did your y pipe crack....its simple enough for you to do it...i replaced mine with a metal y pipe to eliminate the junk plastic. remove the hose and buy new hose lengths and clamps assemble and reattach....you may have to work under the vehicle. the ypipe is directly in the lower back center
@@jarsofclay5 I finally got it lol. Took me about 45 minutes. Had to basically hug the manifold in the most awkward way and get use an extension on the end of the only ratchet out of all 4 of mine that actually fit the space properly enough to have clearance to turn. Not gonna lie.. I left that damn bolt out during reassembly lol
Ventilation (PCV) Valve - Removal 3.5L The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve is located on the end of the rear valve cover. 1. Remove positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose (2) from PCV valve (3). 2. Unscrew PCV valve (3) from valve cover (1).
seems a little tedious with all the plugs and sensors.. this is why I prefer working on my 90s Nissan.. in any case, I bought the wife a journey and it might be misfiring so this guide will come in handy for me.
Later Nissans are just the same as all the newr cars, I think they want to make you pay the dealers to do what used to be a simple job to do your self.
What a pain in the ass I have to go through to change 3 of the 6 friggin’ plugs. All because of emission bullshit and trying to get rid of backyard mechanics and force people to take it somewhere!

Will Bishop how did you get 13mm bolts out the back? Driving myself crazy
@@tonysignorelli2710 I have been trying for over an hr on one bolt. Ugg
I can’t find the bolt can some one send me a picture or reference
Thank you! Took me about 2 hrs just like u said. Those back bolts r definitely the worst part. Great vid.
This video was super awesomesauce lol. I been trying to figure this out because like another I read there's not too many videos out there for the journey. Extremely helpful. This video saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks a million!
Very helpful video, just replaced all 6 plugs on our 2010 Dodge Journey SXT with using only this video as reference. Thank you!
Michael Anderson but how did you get the two 13mm bolts out? Driving myself crazy
So do you need the new head gasket to do this job
@@salvadorapodaca1213 it would be preferable

Super useful video...
Not a bunch of BS chatting prior to procedure. Thanks bud!
Great video. Dont know how it could be explained any better. thanks for posting
You just saved me $500 Jeff. Much appreciated!!!
Your most welcome

Great job on your video. Very detailed. Much appreciated.
Great video Jeff. Saved me alot of thinking and looking before doing this job.
thank you so much. I have a dodge journey and felt uneasy about doing a tune up.

Any tips on how to get the two 13mm bolts out?
Tony Signorelli i just reached around back
Jeff Moore incredible. I just can't seem to get a hold of the one on the passenger side
The passenger side is the worst. I could get the bolt off myself but had to have my wife’ finger tighten the bolt back on. My advise is to find someone with small arms to assist. My arms were skinned up from reaching back there so much
OMFG! Well I guess I know what ill be doing for 1.5 to 2 hours this Saturday😒... Thanx for an awesome video!!
It’s a PItFA! Stupid engineers and designers!

Helped a lot thanks champ. But the Australian 2009 engine bay looked a little different. Still helped heaps though
Liked video, well explained
Thank you.nice video
What is the gap on the new plugs?
very helpful. thank you for your time
Do you need a new blue gasket as shown at the end of the video or do you just clean it ?
Julie fauson just clean it thats all just wipe it off
How did you get the back 13mm bolt on the right side?? I cannot get my ratchet to turn for the life of me.
That was the easy one for me.
I think I put a wrench on the end of my ratchet for more leverage

This upper intake manifold was used on 3.5 L 2008 2009 2010 Dodge Avenger. 2007 2008 2009 2010 Chrysler Sebring and 2009 2010 Dodge Journey.
what the hell man. I'm getting to the gold pipe and it won't go down it has two screws in the bottom you did not say anything about.
Edgar Morillo look at 1:40 in time 8mm screws
Did you figure that part out I cant get the bitch to budge
what is the bolt sequence and torque spec on the plenum
Torque intake manifold: Step 1: 12 inch/Lbs, (hand tight) Step 2: 72 inch/Lbs, (6) Ft/Lbs Step 3: 12 Ft/Lbs
torque intake plenum: Step 1: 24 inch/lb (hand tight) Step 2: 48 inch/lb (4) Ft/Lbs Step 3: 84 inch/lb (7) Ft/Lbs (To torque bolts, start in center using crisscross pattern)
Great great video
Thank you for the video
Thanks for video. Just one question, if you know. "is this work/vehicle engine similar to the Dodge 2012 Journey"?
Sammy hooligan im not sure they changed engines frequently because they are junk.
Similar in a sense of items removed! But not the same. Will have to remove upper intake plenum to get to the plugs.

Do you know where the pcv valve locatoin is?
Ventilation (PCV) Valve - Removal
3.5L
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve is located on the end of the rear valve cover.
1. Remove positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose (2) from PCV valve (3).
2. Unscrew PCV valve (3) from valve cover (1).

Does the battery have to be disconnected when doing this?
No.
