I received a small intestine, liver, and pancreas in 2016. I hope you know how much we appreciate everything that transplant teams and donor families do for us! We are literally only alive today because people like you exist.
I had a living donor transplant 14 years ago. I had amazing surgeons for myself and my donor. I will always be thankful for my transplant team. Just incredible people.
I am a resipiant of a kidney transplant and have had my kidney for 23 years. In canada we are not aloud to find out who our donor is but I must say that I am so thankful for those who are willing to donate their organs, you have no idea what a gift you have given to us who need them. The doctors and all the other staff that care for us during and after the transplant are also gifts. Thanks you!
I am a lung transplant recipient. I got both lungs 🫁 January 26, 2023. Thank you to the person who donated my lungs 🫁 he/she has given me life and now I am able to raise my daughter who is one. Your video was so interesting thank you for the information interesting to know. It a sad 😞 yet happy 😆 moment.
Great to see you back! Thanks for all the motivation and study hacks over the years. Love how you stay focused and get things done - especially when wrapping up there at the end. Kian has the ability to, “keep on keepin on.”
Wow! Thank U 4 sharing this awesome vlog! Thank U 4 all that you do for the community and your service as a whole! Your job looks awesome b/c U get to fly all over like a rock star and save lives but I know it's waaay more to it and I appreciate all that U do! And I must say, if U dont' mind, U make it all look good too! 😊 Cheers 2 U! Peace & Blessings!🙏🏽 U definitely have a new subscriber!
I'm approaching the end of medschool and realizing I see myself in a surgical specialty. Considering to do an elective rotation on vascular because you seem so excited about it. Would be happy to see more videos about how residency has been going on so far ❤
So excited you’re back!! You’ve inspired me so much to apply to medical school, watching your vlog always motivated me to continue pushing my through undergrad. Happy to say that I have my first med interview scheduled later this month 🎉
This is the video I’ve been waiting for. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this available. I’m an MS1 interested in transplant surgery. Such a great learning experience!
Hey Kian, your videos are always so timely, I am starting my transplant rotation at the same place as you in 3 days and was hoping to get a bird's eye view on how its gonna be, and boom, there you go!. thank you so much for returning to You tube
Awesome VLOG Kian :) Just finishing up my ICU block so I was able to sit in on a transplant OR and talk to the surgeon. I think the most surprising thing to me about the recovery process is the speed that everything needs to move at surgically. Also, the organ preservation fluid flush volume that the team uses was more than I had expected 😅 From my end, the medical workup required to determine which organs are viable for transplant wasn't really something that I'd needed to put much thought into in the past - but it was way more extensive than I think most people know. Anyways, keep up the great work in residency 💪
Hey Kian!! I’ve been watching your videos since the eleventh grade. I gave my med school entrance this may and I’m finally in my first year of mbbs. Thanks for the inspiration you’ve given me and I’m really excited to see more of such amazing vlogs! Cheers!
Finally, you baaack I’m so happy. I have been checking your channel from while to while, waiting for you to upload new vlogs. Happy to see you in your second year of residency, I been watching you since your med school days. Lots of love and hoping for a lot of videos to come 😂💛💛 you give me inspiration, so please keep uploading videos. Pray for you 💛💛
Can you do a video on your loupes? It’s so hard to pick a pair! I’m in dentistry so need them for a different reason than you, but the sentiment is the same
Hi Kian! Love your videos! When you were talking about the warm/cold phase, is there a perfusionist on the team taking care of that step or is it another health care member? Thank you! ☺️
Deliver the liver! 😂 Girl, I know practicing medicine is not this glamorous but you make the process beautiful with your essence and how you feel the work you do. I’m on the fence with practicing medicine as a doctor.. but I am passionate about aspects of it. I was only a few seconds into the video and vibed so well with your enthusiasm! 😊 🐝 happy to connect with you through your content and being content too😄
So good to se you again Kian!!! I hope you are fine with you:). And this transplant information is so enligthing to me, beacuse I dont work in the medical field. Big Hug from Germany.
Was waiting for your vlog for so long🥲 finally !!!!!! Love from Sikkim , India 🫶. I am so glad to tell you that you had wished me luck for my med entrance exam and i made it and i am in my 2nd year of my medical journey. Thanks Kian for all your inspiring videos , it had and still motivates me
You like the coolest Physician I know because your personality is bubbly, and you joke...I ❤ that...I know your job is serious, and I command you for your profession (Save lives)..God bless 💞 you,and we thank you Dr.Kian..Fyi i have a medical Doctor in my family, and they think I would make a phenomenal doctor myself, however I don't have the financial resources, but I love you was able to do what i would of probably be good at as well..❤️💯👍🏾
There's nothing for you or medical professionals to regret when you pickup or even remove an organ for transplantation. As you rightly explain, these organs can only be removed with consent and no one dies to give up their organs. They are removed WHEN a person dies, if there is permission to do so. This is a very important explanation for the public in Canada and elsewhere to understand. As you say, the people who remove organs cannot be involved in the treatment of the recipient -- so that a treating doctor cannot try to "harvest" an organ as is suggested by some TV dramas. Decades ago as a student I collected tissues from pathology departments for use in cancer research. Today, those tissues are no longer used for certain assays because the research that was done has improved cancer detection and treatment. I've gladly signed my donor card and hope people like you will someday be able to use them for transplant when I no longer need them.
Wait so there are people that come in to the OR to donating their organs but they aren’t on a ventilator?!? Wow!!!! I thought they were ALWAYS put on a vent to keep organs full of blood! I assumed if you were dead before the vent can be put in you couldn’t donate! Wow! Thanks for all your hard work and care! Everyone make sure you are an organ donor!!! Very easy to do! You can do it on your couch
hi kian! i'm not sure if you remember me. i rememeber in one of your med school vlogs you were feeling so down and debating med as a whole. i gave some words of encouragement and you screenshotted it! I'm so glad to see you striving now!! I made it to undergrad! I hope you see this and your day is going well!
