Update: So the wiring harness adapter fix proved to only be temporary. A couple months later the "shift to park" error resurfaced. We ended up replacing the whole shifter assembly, which wasn't too bad! That video can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/eyrPiYW61go/v-deo.html Thanks for watching! 🙂
Thanks for the video and links to the tools! I'm fairly handy, but I don't work on cars. This full repair took me about 45 minutes, including probably 25 minutes unclipping the console (even with the proper trim removal tool). I was afraid of breaking the clips, so it took a while. Once the first set of clips were undone, the rest was a breeze. The video really helped with unclipping the wiring harnesses, which went much smoother than I expected. Saved me a trip to the mechanic, and probably a couple hundred dollars!
You're very welcome, we're glad that you were able to follow the video and get it repaired. I will say keep an eye out for it because after a few months of no issues the shift to park error came back. I ended up replacing the whole shifter assembly and it has been trouble free since then. Thank you so much for the tip and thanks for watching! 😁👍
Easy to follow. Installed my harness in about 10 minutes. Hopefully it fixes the issue and I don’t have to go back in and replace the actual switch, which I also got just in case.
Awesome! After a few months the shift to park error came back so I ended up replacing the whole shifter assembly, it wasn't too bad. I didn't trust myself enough to get the right switch for it lol. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Thanks for this video!. I managed to put the wiring extension on without disconnecting the other wires...just lifted the back enough to get to the one I needed to put the extension on. Wouldn't have been able to know where to look without this video. Thanks, again.
THANK YOU! Because of this error I think it’s drained 4 batteries in the 5 years we’ve owned our 2019 Acadia and GMC (three separate dealerships) have always said, Oh it’s the battery! BS. This should save me from going to them and about $1,000 😃❤️😃
Awesome! Glad to hear it. I ended up having to replace the whole shifter assembly because it came back a few weeks later. Here is the video to replace the shifter if it comes to that: ua-cam.com/video/eyrPiYW61go/v-deo.html Thanks for watching! 🙂
Awesome! By far one of the best videos I have watched a long time. I have a 22/23 trailblazer that is having to shift to park come up on the dash. And will not allow the vehicle to be turned “off”. I am going to try this and let you know what happens. Keep up the good work man. Two 👍 to you brother.
Actually it’s a Blazer😬. Didn’t have to use new harness as you did in your video. Exercised micro switch and is working great. Actually had my girlfriend do it with me (her vehicle). Always happy to learn and pass knowledge along thanks to you sir. Have a blessed day brother.
The whole time I was trying to understand how just adding an extension jumper to the cable would fix the issue. Glad I read the comments. So what is the actual fix then?
Hello! I figured it was worth a shot with the extension jumper. However, replacing the whole shifter assembly has seems to be the permanent fix, which can be watched right here: ua-cam.com/video/1KSWkvConVs/v-deo.html Haven't had any issues with it since then. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🙂
I have a 2018 Traverse, I had the dealer install the extra harness but still get the message intermittently. The root cause is the cheap Micro switch that you highlight in the @2:18 in the video.
Yes indeed, that's what mine ended up doing and so have to replace the shifter unit. It's terrible that the micro switch goes out that frequently, they should have upgraded or made it a better quality switch. Either way, we'll have a video out on how to replace the whole shifter assembly soon. So stay tuned! 😉
I agree with this statement. You can replace switch without taking shifter assembly out. mfg omron part # d2hw-bl221h purchased at digi-key for couple bucks. shipping was more than part. replaced mine 3 years ago and no problems.
Correct. Cut the two wires, strip them back a little, twist them together, put a wire nut or electrical tape on them, and you are done. No need to replace the junk with new junk that will eventually fail too.
Wow! That was quick, it took a couple months for mine to come back. Ended up replacing the whole shifter assembly and that finally fixed the problem for good lol. Here's the video in case your interested: ua-cam.com/video/eyrPiYW61go/v-deo.html Let us know if you have any questions, thanks for watching! 🙂
Q: What does the jumper do? The GM bulletin that you show at the beginning of the video states and instructs how to install the switch you show so I bought both the switch and the harness. I replaced both and thanks to your video and a few other I saw what I needed. I found the GM bulletin had a couple problem and I'm surprised their images are so poor as I viewed it on line. Your video was helpful, thank you!
Bought this part to fix my wife’s 2019 Traverse RS that we bought new. Open the console up, and find ours already has this connector installed. Went ahead and swapped them up, but I’m highly doubtful that will change anything. Chances are I’ll end up having to replace the switch still
Yeah, it probably won't do much difference at this point. My 2018 was bought new and started experiencing the error around 45k miles. Installed the jumper/connector thing and it was fine for maybe a few months, but then one day it started acting up again. I tried looking for the micro switch and couldn't pinpoint it so I decided to just replace the whole shifter assembly. You can watch this video here so you can see how to get the shifter out in order to replace the micro switch: ua-cam.com/video/eyrPiYW61go/v-deo.html Hope this helps thanks for watching! 👍
I have a 2018 and just disconnected the blue micro switch while I waited for a new one, never had any problems or messages so never installed the new one, this was about 4 years ago, now I have a separate issue where I'm now getting the service parking brake message.
I agree! The dealerships should be well aware of this service bulletin. You can show them this video and they should see the bulletin number and go from there. Thanks for watching! 👍
My problem is I have a shift to park up message and when I go to turn my car off, it won’t turn off. I mean it will turn off, but it still stays on if that makes any sense like I have to disconnect my battery to completely turn it off, because of that shift to park up
Yes, that's what I ended up doing and it fixed the problem for good. Here's the video for how to replace the shifter, good luck! ua-cam.com/video/eyrPiYW61go/v-deo.html
This "jumper doesn't replace the switch. Though also not sure what the "jumper" does. If you think about it the switch is bad that's what needs to ve replaced so. This is a great video but feel though this doesn't resolve the issue. The cleaning of the contacts with the flicking makes sense but yeah.
Couldn't agree more! @aronjohn84 So far so good but I think it's just a matter of time before the shifter or switch will simply need to be replaced. Thanks for watching! 👍
My problem is we swap transmission from Equinox to my 2011 and by hand seems like all the gears work but with out turning on the vehicle it wont gear into park. Please help if anyone has or knows the issue so we don’t want not even started the vehicle , i know it said and read before , that some vehicle when is swap like that it needs to be re programed could that be my problem thanks in advance

Thanks for the video. This was a big help!!!!
I placed the jumper in with your part number from GM , and it did not work . 😢

The best instructor ever. None of your students should fail.
Thank you for the kind words. Glad you found the video helpful ☺️
Omg! This video fix the problem, thank you!!
I just spend $45 for the mechanic to come and say to change the whole shifter
You're welcome and thanks for watching! 😊

Sweet! You're welcome! I would have done it that way too if I wasn't recording lol. Glad it was helpful and thank you for watching 🙂
very good video!!! very detailed!! great closeup shots to show different steps and disconnecting cable connectors, thank you!!!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!

Ahhh ok, a Blazer makes more sense lol. Glad you cleared it up with the exercise. 🙂
Thank you for the part worked on my Acadia!
Thank you. I'll try this on the weekend I have the same issue
Great how-to video!
Thanks for watching!

@@Steven-gv1ke you mean to short the 2 wires. won't that cause some other issue?
GREAT VIDEO,INFO, STEP BY STEP..... 👏
Thanks for watching! ☺️
Appreciate this video, it was very easy to replace. Too bad it didn't work for me, first drive after "shift to park" came up 😂
Wow! That was quick, it took a couple months for mine to come back. Ended up replacing the whole shifter assembly and that finally fixed the problem for good lol.

Amazing video, so I don’t need to change the whole shifter? Just this wire and the shift to park will go away?
Correct! The jumper harness should make it go away. Thanks for watching! 👍

Can you do a video on getting the handle off iv almost passed out twisting and pulling I think Chevy glued mine down
This is great, but absolutely BS we have to deal with this. Do dealerships know about your Service Bulletin?
I agree! The dealerships should be well aware of this service bulletin. You can show them this video and they should see the bulletin number and go from there. Thanks for watching! 👍
I've got a 2019 traverse, less than 45000 miles. Started misbehaving about a month ago. What does this harness actually do?
Not sure how it works to be honest but it did seem to fix the issue for now. Thanks for watching! 👍
My problem is I have a shift to park up message and when I go to turn my car off, it won’t turn off. I mean it will turn off, but it still stays on if that makes any sense like I have to disconnect my battery to completely turn it off, because of that shift to park up
I’m having the same problem and it won’t crank
Did you fix it?
Nope you have any onsite?
That part number for that harness disables the auto stop/start. I don't think it has nothing to do with the shift into park issue.
I'm not sure either but it didn't disable my auto start/stop feature after installing it. Thanks for watching! 👍
will this work for the 2017 Acadia??? sure hope so cuz this sh*t is driving me crazy!
Yes it should be similar to this 2018 Traverse. Thanks for watching 🙂
I did everything and the problem is still there, should I change the shifter?
Yes, that's what I ended up doing and it fixed the problem for good. Here's the video for how to replace the shifter, good luck!

Still getting the shift to park alert after install. Any ideas?
Time to replace the shifter assembly. Thanks for watching! 👍

I bought a 2015 Chevy Malibu with 21000 miles on it just today. Already having the Shift to park BS
Oh wow, sorry to hear that! I think this Traverse started acting up around 50k miles. Smh, been the only problem I've had this far.
