They fixed it under warranty once before. Just happened today again a few years later. Don't know if GM or the Chevy Dealer will honor their work. I may call but after watching your video maybe I should go for the bend it back down method here with the Micro Switch since you pointed it out so well in your video. @@ginoventura7226 I skipped that step. I just pulled the console up and moved it to where I could get under. The only “hard part” is getting the little black plastic cover off
Just added a remote control battery on/off switch to my Cadillac. While it doesn’t fix the core issue solved the problem. Turned off battery with battery remote before turning off car so you don’t get an “attempt theft” on restart. Cost $40 for new connectors (Vgate Lead Acid Battery Terminal Clamps, 8AWG up to 4/0(XL)and $60 for battery control (Car Remote Control Battery Switch, 12v battery switch,12v) on Amazon
Bending the switch tab only lasted a couple weeks. I ended up putting a piece of metal in there about the same size as the switch prong only a whole lot stiffer. It stays in place because it can't go anywhere with the cover over the switch. Going on two years, no problem.
After watching your video, I understood the problem. I sprayed some Deoxit D5 on the connection. That worked however, I am not sure how long it will solve the problem.
You make it look easy. I remember doing trim work, back in my day. Hated it. Plastic clips always breaking. Some peoples cars were filthy. That looked like a gravy job. Whats the book time pay on that?
Yeah I don't generally like doing trim work either. This one was certainly well put together and easy to work on though. I think the book time was almost 2 hours if I remember right. Which is crazy
Hello so i am having the same problem with my 2018 malibu and i’ve done a lot of what you showed to fix the problem. I wanted to try putting that hose on there to see if thats a cheaper way of repairing it. I was wondering what exactly it’s called so i can purchase it! I wanted to try that route first before taking it in to my dealership. Thank you for all the tips you have really helped me with the stress of figuring out how to get my car to finally shut off!
It looks like a pretty simple switch that simply needs to be beefed up. Looks like replacement unit is going to continue being problem again in near future. Great suggestion to just bend tiny lever
Thanks so much for making this video. It helped me understand what was going on and saved me a lot of money by doing it myself. Thanks again so much. 🙂
I am having this issue with my car 2019 Malibu, but mine messed up the bluetooth on car along with radio screen. The screen was super hot to the touch that it would literally go black, then freeze at times. At other times radio would not even turn off even though the car was off. Took it to dealership and they are replacing everything. Thank God 🙏 it's still under the warranty.
I just took my car in for this error. They want to replace the shifter control and say a "jumper harness" needs to be replaced as well. What is a jumper harness? Could my error message be caused by more than a faulty switch? Thank you for posting this video, hard to believe they are charging me 2 hours labor for what you could do in less than 20min.
How long will the quick fix work? My Malibu has done this 6-7 times in the past 5 weeks but tonight I couldn’t get it to go into park. I had to google your fix which worked. Thank you. I’m a girl with no mechanic knowledge so this is not something I feel confident doing myself plus I don’t have those tools. Is there a reasonable amount of money a dealer is going to charge to do this for me? I just bought my 4 year old lease 2 months ago, it only has 18K miles on it, I really feel it shouldn’t be falling apart. This is really disappointing. Thank you for your help.
Great video showing how to remove the center console cover to get to everything. But no longer the correct tsb. Now they have a new harness piece to add that corrects the issue. See TSB #19-NA-206 for the latest replacement parts. There is an additional pigtail harness to add and if needed there is a part number for that switch harness for in the shifter. No need to replace the entire shifter any longer.
I looked this up it's a good idea also, I may be under warranty for some, I'm curious how this new $9.00 to $15.00 (harness 84733196) solves the problem?
I'm having this problem, but as usual it is intermittent, meaning it never happens at the dealership. So even though there is a service bulletin on this, the dealer won't fix it until they see it. I'm gonna try your "bend the tab" and see if that doesn't do the trick for me. Thanks in advance.
Thanks, I was freaking out when thia started last week. Now I know what to have done without the dealership ripping me off. Can you purchase that little switch?
The tip to put a rubber around it definitely worked for the time being. Thank you so much! May I know where to find the harness that is mentioned and how/where to attach it?
I don't understand what the issue is. Is the sensor on that piece of steal doesn't making good contact? Is the entire piece damaged? Or maybe it's the shifter? Sometimes i move the shifter just a little and it works, but i'm worried it might damaged it.

Just added a remote control battery on/off switch to my Cadillac. While it doesn’t fix the core issue solved the problem. Turned off battery with battery remote before turning off car so you don’t get an “attempt theft” on restart. Cost $40 for new connectors (Vgate Lead Acid Battery Terminal Clamps, 8AWG up to 4/0(XL)and $60 for battery control (Car Remote Control Battery Switch, 12v battery switch,12v) on Amazon
your a g for showing how to fix it with what the problem is
Thanks man, I really didn't want to take my grandma's car to work in the morning lol
I fixed it for 15 minutes, thank you)
Bending the switch tab only lasted a couple weeks. I ended up putting a piece of metal in there about the same size as the switch prong only a whole lot stiffer. It stays in place because it can't go anywhere with the cover over the switch. Going on two years, no problem.
Yeah that sounds like a good fix. I think the tiny piece of rubber hose siliconed on would hold up pretty well also
How did u do it
Can you describe where to put the metal piece? Pictures would help.
Thanks for your video.helped alot. Fixed girlfriends car now she is being nice lol. You explain and teach very well
Haha, I hear you on that. Probably short-lived though. Glad it was helpful and I appreciate the comment. Thanks
Great info! I knew it was a micro switch but didn’t know where to start pulling that apart. Will fix it next weekend.
After watching your video, I understood the problem. I sprayed some Deoxit D5 on the connection. That worked however, I am not sure how long it will solve the problem.
Thank you for the info I fixed the problem that was going to cost me 50$ for 7.99 which was the mini screwdriver
Thxs very helpful great video excellent job
My 2019 Chevy traverse did that today when I parked at the airport I have it going into the shop next Monday hopefully it’s a quick fix
Man this is great Chris. Need more easy fixes like this. Thank you.
AJ
Thanks chevy just sent out a Service bulletin
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video, it's very helpful!
Thank you Chris as I have that problem in my car as well and I also have found by just pushing the start stop button again shuts that off also
You make it look easy.
Which is crazy
informative & straight to the solution; exactly how youtube university should be. thanks.
Same problem with the 2019.
Most Excellent Video!!! Thanks. News Flash... 2016 Malibu - Shift to Park. Error. Guess there is a class action suit (s) now...?
Adjusting the switch fix the issue for me but now I’m ready to change the whole thing if needed
Could you put shrink tubing over the metal bar on the microswitch to make it thicker? Or wrap electrical tape around it?
Thanks so much for making this video. It helped me understand what was going on and saved me a lot of money by doing it myself. Thanks again so much. 🙂
No problem Bruce. Thanks!
Easy. This video helped me fix my own shift to park issue. Thank you
I am having this issue with my car 2019 Malibu, but mine messed up the bluetooth on car along with radio screen. The screen was super hot to the touch that it would literally go black, then freeze at times. At other times radio would not even turn off even though the car was off. Took it to dealership and they are replacing everything. Thank God 🙏 it's still under the warranty.
Thanks for your help. Bad engineering on GM's part.
You're welcome
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! Great video!
It's hard for me to give you any input without actually seeing the car. But I will say this is 99% of the time the cause. I would just shim the switch
It should last pretty darn long if you do a good job correcting it. And worst case, it's not hard to jump back in there and fix it again
Most helpful video so far....you just saved me not just time but $$$ too...Thanks soo much bro..
Super helpful even works with 2017s
And 18’s
Thanks,I'm sure this will also work for the 2017 gmc Acadia?...GMC is very wrong for not doing a recall
I'm having this problem, but as usual it is intermittent, meaning it never happens at the dealership. So even though there is a service bulletin on this, the dealer won't fix it until they see it. I'm gonna try your "bend the tab" and see if that doesn't do the trick for me. Thanks in advance.
How’d it go?
Thank you for this video. I just ended up bending the switch arm on my vehicle and problem resolved.
Can that quick fix be done to a 2016 Camaro?
Is it best to replace the shifter or just do what you did in the beginning??
Thanks, I was freaking out when thia started last week. Now I know what to have done without the dealership ripping me off. Can you purchase that little switch?
You might be able to find it online somewhere but not from the dealership No. And no problem
Thanks for pointing me in right direction. I found an updated tsb 19-na-206, they install a harness jumper fyi
No problem and awesome, I didn't know there was a TSB on this. Is that a new TSB? Or do you know when it came out?

Part# 84733196
The tip to put a rubber around it definitely worked for the time being. Thank you so much!
May I know where to find the harness that is mentioned and how/where to attach it?
I don't understand what the issue is. Is the sensor on that piece of steal doesn't making good contact? Is the entire piece damaged? Or maybe it's the shifter?
Sometimes i move the shifter just a little and it works, but i'm worried it might damaged it.
Great video! Thanks Chris!
Worked like a charm thanks!!
Awesome! Glad it helped out
Great video. Only question. Why was it faulty if you said the micro switch out of the old one is still good for future projects?
Thank you bro, you just saved my life lol
Glad I could help
Gotta change mines in the morning. Wish me luck
Ridiculously simple. I sent you some $$$ because thats exactly what this video is
Great to hear the video helped you out! And that's extremely generous of you. Where did you send it? I didn't see anything come through
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow there was a thing that said applaud and you could send money. I sent $2. Do you have something connected for an account that you pay and receive funds through UA-cam?
Oh, that's right. I forgot I enabled that a while back! Okay yeah I'll look into it and check it out. Thanks so much
