Monta certainly makes superb pieces. I'd seriously consider this watch $600 to $800 less (but I'm guessing it's worth $2435, just not to me). The color combo is awesome but I'd prefer white bezel markings. Anyway, terrific review and cool watch.
I agree 100%. It's a gorgeous watch, but for the price I go for a major brand or a True GMT. It looks like more and more micro brands go up in price and although they mostley have better specs, at that price level history becomes more and more important for me.
Absolutely amazing watches. Rhodium plated hands, details, quality and design. This is almost Rolex level (Rolex have better movement and brand heritage). Rest is on pair.
I really like the design language, the brand seems to value attention to detail a lot. The bracelet is very nice. The numbers on the bezel are a tiny bit too large for my liking. Also, not my preferred colors, but I took a look at the other watches on their website and I like some of the ones with grey dials. Thanks for bringing this brand to my attention!
I have this Monta on pre-order with expected delivery in mid April. I fully realize that $2400 for a micro seem to be expensive, but Monta is not a micro. I have owned two other Montas, and you really cannot appreciate their level of quality until you have it in hand. Is it worth $2400? I believe it is, but I understand that opinions may very well vary.
Travelers GMTs are a pain in the ass to set the date. And you should travel with a cheap quartz watch what you wouldn't mind losing. I'm pretty interested in this Monta.
I'm like you, I like darker dials but this dial really pops! I also really love the color of this aluminum bezel. I've always liked aluminium bezels over ceramic. It's just a really beautiful watch!
That’s a lot of watch, 300m water resistance on a GMT? A great bracelet design and a tasteful 6 o’clock date window!!! I’m really considering getting one a 40mm with a 47 L2L is wearable on my baby wrist. Monta is a great independent brand I’m looking fwd to watching them grow and create more cool watches.
@@WparuSlowach OK now as a comparison I can get somewhere between 3-5 CW for the price of this, is it that much better? The farer cushion case watches and the crooms 2 look nice but the CW case shape and bracelet appeal to me more, as do more of their designs.
@@waynesellers4078 The cheapest CHW is 625 pounds. The cheapest Monta is 1420 pounds. Collecting watches is not about quantity. Otherwise you are in very beginning in this journey.
@@WparuSlowach yes I am you are correct. CW are easy to get for great prices used so that also helps, farer and monta are much rarer used in the UK. Also that watch is £2k plus import fees.
That is an interesting point, to compare apples to apples we need to compare the more expensive CW watches with inhouse SH21 movement with Monta as those are priced in same range 2000+ USD. In that case CW take the advantage in the movement side alone. On The case finishing, bracelet and dial finishing I cannot comment yet as I haven't received my CW yet but my Monta noble is really good, not rolex good but close.
Nice enough looking watch, but I recently purchased a Zelos Spearfish GMT for less than half the price. I do not see any area that the Zelos is deficient compared to the Monta. 200m vs 300m WR does not really matter to me. Does the Monta use a higher grade of SW330-2 movement?
It will probably come down to the better case finishing, better bracelet, rhodium plated hour markers, the phenomenal glide lock clasp, and the literally perfect dimensions on the Monta that will slightly edge out the Zelos. Other than that, I'm sure they're close.
There are a lot of comments dinging Monta for the price and saying it's not worth it. Truthfully speaking is any watch not made of precious metals "really worth" thousands of dollars? Worth in the watch industry is what someone can or is willing to pay for it. Since I own this watch I have compared it to others in my collection, some that cost more, others a little less. Here is my take as an owner compared to 2 more expensive watches. 1. Compared to Rolex Batman GMT. Movement of the Monta compared to Batman is not up to par...nor should it be, the Batman is a higher tier. However, the fit and finish of the Monta is really not that far behind. The Rolex bracelet and clasp are better but the Monta for its price is excellent. So compared to a Master II, 2400 for this Monta watch is a great price. 2. Compare to a Grand Seiko SBGJ237 GMT. The GS blows it away in almost every regard...fit, finish, movement, none of it compares to the GS. But to be honest I think besides the Movement the GS also blows away the Batman too. Doesn't mean the Monta is bad...not at all...just the GS is in a different tier. The Monta bracelet and clasp however is better than the GS. For comparison the GS almost 3 times the price at retail over the Monta. So again, great deal. That's just 2 comparisons. Its all subjective sure but compared to watches above and below...to me, there is a lot to like.
good grief my friend isn't the GS GMT over 44mm? You have knocked off most potential buyers. The lug-to-lug or case length is over 50mm. Please don't quote me on the dimensions but wow.....I also love the Longines Zulu GMT it's too large as well........
@amgolfer3591 close...43.5. But it wears so much smaller. The bezel, which overhangs the case, is 43.5, but the case is 42. So it doesn't wear like the dimensions state.
I like the style and design, but not really warming to this particular colour combination. On a personal note, I think for this price, I would rather go with the Oris Aquis.
My problem is that it's still sort of a homage to a Rolex. The case, hands, bracelet. I wouldn't like people to ask me "Is it a Rolex?" when paying such premium. They really need to have more innovation in their designs in my opinion to be more attractive.
@@technoboy21 get over what others think my friend; just doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Money is tight for MOST and MOST don't have an extra $12+k hanging around for a Rolex. If you like something because it moves you, get it and wear it proudly, end of story. I could care less if some asks if it's a Rolex......MOST don't. Think about it. Cheers.
Sadly it's overpriced compared to the competition. I would rather purchase two Christopher Ward watches for the same cost as one of the Monta's instead. If you are like a diehard Monta fan I suppose it's worth it but I always felt the design language to be a bit too elderly for me. I'm already in my 40's but it seems it's made for retirees. The Citizen looks way cooler and sort of took over the show. Thanks for the video Chris always appreciated.
Poor retention value doesn’t mean they are over priced, the company has to produce a profit to stay in business. Unfortunately the brand cannot yet hold value on the secondary market being so new. Even big brands like Grand Seiko are a phenomenal value second hand compared to their retail prices. If you can pick up a Monta second hand, that is the best deal out there.
Love the monta build quality and finish, but this new version of the skyquest is much worse looking than the old one imo. Instead of looking sleek and refined, the new SQ just looks fat. The thick bezel, the thick stubby hands...ugly.
Going strictly off of your head line…. Really… how much gold or precious metal is in a Monta?? I’m not a Rolex fanboy, I don’t own one but get serious. That’s like comparing an Aston Martin to a Kia.
I have a Reef and love it. Excellent watch. The Reef GMT bezel looks too busy for me. I also don't like that the 3 and 9 are missing from the bezel insert and dial.
The one thing that turns me off from the formex reef and reef gmt is the hump on the 9 o’clock side of the watch. It adds symmetry I know but I don’t like it for some reason 😂
Don’t buy into the hype and don’t waste your money. Purchased the gilt Pepsi and the first one I received had scuffs and dirt on the interior of the watch box, had a faulty crown that wouldn’t engage and the whole dial moved when pulling out the crown. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked for a replacement to be sent. The second one had a noisy rotor that could be heard and felt and ran at -20 sec / day. They did ultimately give me a refund but there response was a bit backhanded as they basically said “I’m sorry that you’re sorry” instead of owning their mistakes. They also failed to publish my two star review on their website. Engaging in review censorship is unacceptable. They should stick to make watch straps for other watch brands that actually know how to make watches.

Agreed. There are SW-330 equipped watches for less than $1k. I had a great Mido with that movement. Paid way less than $1k

everyone who owns one echoes your same sediment.....I can't wait to get my hands on one.
That date window is perfect!
beautiful, I usually like different dial colors but the gold lined hour markers really add some class to the watch.
I sent this video who's not a watch guy & told him to listen to the clasp close he said I'm freaking nuts 😮
lolzzz
You need to see one in person to see how beautiful they really are
Travelers GMTs are a pain in the ass to set the date. And you should travel with a cheap quartz watch what you wouldn't mind losing. I'm pretty interested in this Monta.
Those who have never had a Monta in their hands find it too expensive. Those who have had a Monta in their hands find that it is quite a deal.
If I was in the market for a GMT this would be a front runner for sure. I like the black dial variant the best! Any idea on the weight?
According to The Watch Guy the watch on bracelet sized for a 7.5 inch wrist weighs 152 grams.
