I think you got the Bremont stuff wrong. They rebooted the brand because they were losing tons of money, partly because they were assembling their watches in England and using Horage movements. But now they’re using Sellita off-the-shelf movements and building them in Switzerland. The rebranding is awful, but you got the facts exactly backwards. Also, the Patek person who made those controversial statements was Thierry Stern, president of the company. It wasn’t just the head of a department. The guy runs the company and his family owns it.
So when they were charging 7000 dollars for a three hand plus date watch, you are trying to claim the production cost is so high in England that they were losing money?! I'd believe that they're profit margin wasn't quite where they wanted it, but losing money? There's no way, the mark up on luxury watches is in the 7-10x range
I must be one of the few that hates ALL Genta designs. I'm just 100% sure that if Seiko had come out with those designs in the 70's they would have flopped badly or at least forgotten by now. And the integrated bracelet is bs. Wow, yeah, amazing....a watch where you cannot use normal straps or bracelets, what an amazing innovation that makes the customers life more difficult while not giving you anything in return. Casio has integrated bracelets, who cares.
I do think it's funny we only use the terms "money grab or "cash grab" to describe things we don't like. As if the things we do like are somehow exempt. These are businesses. Everything is a cash grab! Lol. Gret video and happy holidays to you!
Btw, the H.Moser is an almost 1-to-1 recreation of a vintage model that was sold at auction. So it's kind of a small production piece they created for the fans of the brand. As for why they decided to collaborate with Massena Lab, I'm not too sure. But they do seem to be doing these conceptual exercises with more affordable brands as a way to bring the community together. So I don't hate the idea.
That Timex chrono looks nice. But 48mm is damn crazy. It looks like it's plastic, so at least it might be light weight. You should have put the new Deepwater Titanium on the list with the dud lume on the hands. And thank you for acknowledging Ralph Lauren's good watches. There are way too many people that don't know about them and criticize them without any knowledge of them.
Great video. Its easy to call out the good but not that many are willing to call out the bad. TBH that's the only way (IMO) to get cred....if "you" say everything is great, is it? Like someone said Teddy B is too nice (...and I like the guy). Mike on This WatchThat Watch did a phenomenal breakdown of why Bremont imploded. He has facts to back it up; how they were doing (losing money) and then just pivoted to be a generic, run of the mill copy cat trying to compete in a more crowded lower end of the market.
I mostly agree with your list, minus the Locomotive. I think its a really interesting design and its a nicely made watch. Wouldn’t pay 7k for it but at 3.5 I would probably have pulled the trigger on this.
I was worried you were about to say that awesome Ikepod was one of the bad watches The Cubitus is extra bad because Patek isn't increasing overall production numbers, so not only is it a bad, cheap watch, but it also makes the Pateks you *do* want more difficult/expensive to acquire
I feel like all of the watches deserved a place on your list. The only one that hurts me a bit is the watch from Ball because it reminded me of the fact that I would have liked to buy a watch in addition to my Ball Marvelight III with a grey dial that I like a lot and which I got for a very good price, but they just don't come out with any affordable, good-looking and original looking models. They really are a bit stuck in trying to look like Rolex watches, not only because they are using 904L steel.
Could not agree more with you on these, not only horrible and ridiculously overpriced, but most of these are either very cheap looking, or just hideous! Cash grabbing. Cheers Chris, and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Love the channel; thanks for all the great videos this year.
I love both the Patek and the Panerai. There is a version of the Patek with the big date that I love. The Elux is outrageous. I’m sure it wears like a 44mm😂. Maybe the technology will filter down to a smaller Submersible case size. I also love the hand wound Panerai’s with a 8 day power reserve.
I like the looks of the Timex Adrenaline. But, I'll give the size complaint. It's too damn big. Whats up with those scrolling affiliate links on your vids? Very distracting.
The Seiko 100th Anniversary Marinemaster. Yes they improved the water resistance and power reserve. But everything else is wrong: the bezeel, the markers, the hands, the case shape and size...none of it bears any resemblance to the 1965 Marinemaster it's based on. It's so bad Seiko has added "reinterpretation" to the description on their website...but that's not in the description on the dedicated page for the watch.
I almost like that Panerai. Just put it on a bracelet and add minute track. Price is beyond crazy and light is a gimmick I don't really need, but the general design is not bad. Probably the only Panerai I like because it doesn't look like some outdated pocket watch conversion from 100 years ago.
As a former mechanical engineer, it boggles my mind how most UA-cam watch reviewers never mention the Citizen Eco Drive or the Seiko Spring Drive watches that fall WAY below the price points of most of the watches they gush like schoolgirls about, yet in REALITY are two of the most accurate timepieces on the market at any price! It's a watch, not an astrological chart! Telling you the exact time is the entire point of the process! Why pay more for something that doesn't perform as well? That's a fair question!
Why you’re an engineer not CEO. Value and utility extend beyond mere function to perceived value. Consumer choices are not mere optimization problems. If you want to optimize for function and efficiency, there no barrier to buying a Citizen Eco Drive. Go for it.
Because you're not just buying a device to tell you the time. A $20 Casio can do that and even it is not necessary in a society in which there's more cellphones than people.
Timex is trying to market their products to us collectors and the normal watch buyer who will typically wear a watch that is 5X too big for their wrist.
I mean it's about what you like, not what someone else says you should like. Even the Royal Oak. It's not my thing. I appreciate the craftsmanship, but it just don't like the style, especially for the price, but at the same time, that doesn't matter if I don't like it. It's like anything else. If you spend money on something that you don't like, You spent too much. No matter the price. Edit: as the video continues, that Ralph Lauren is ridiculous. I don't even like that little horsey guy on my shirts and I was in high school in the '80s! Why would I spend that kind of money on a watch with that same horse? It's absurd.

Or to put it another way, you like it because you're the target audience, people who don't know better
The Moser brand has a long history and that watch looks like old Misers so I don't think its out of place. Sure it doesn't fit their current design but Moser is a brand that does what it wants. Also. The Kith instantly sold out. So all the watch nerds need to get off their high horses.

Not sure what's so bad about the Timex chrono. I'm fed up with reviewers bitching about case size being too large. Some people like me aren't concerned about that, as long as the dial looks good - and this one is.
Worst relative to what (finishing, value, price, design)? Did you actually handle any of these? The video just jumps all over the map - everything from a logo (Bremont), to price (panerai and tag), to the watch design (ball, I guess) was critiqued. Speaking of ball, he mentions a pepsi 'dial' (the dial is black)...maybe he means the bezel. I'm not sure how price, alone, makes a watch 'worse' especially in the luxury category (watches north of $50k or $100k, say). Let's face it, when one is willing to shell out 50 or 100k, I don't think those with that kind of spending power care much about value. I happen to agree the Panerai is expensive for what it is (and maybe the Ball too), certainly the Kith/Tag. If he wanted to harp on price/value, then simply the title the video as the 'most overpriced watches in 2024.'
