I would not trade my High School years 1981-85 for anything except for the chance to do it all one more time. Ric and his band mates played as huge of a role in teen life during the iconic 80's.
1979 - 1983 here, but was a music crazed kid from age 5 (Born in 65) , so the early 1970s through about 1998 are my favorite years. I LOVE The CARS especially!! RIP RO and BO !
Elliott Easton was such a great and underrated guitar player. I know Cars fans think the sound was based around Hawkes on Keyboards and Orr on bass but Easton's riffs were great.
Totally agree, Matt. I grew up where Ben is buried. Will be going to his grave this Friday, September 8th, to wish him a Happy Birthday. Such a great talent.
Matt Kincade guitar solo is unbelievable. Sounds like horn and keyboards mixed in. The tone is so wailing and almost like it’s crying. Unless I’m naive and it’s not just guitar. The bassline and Ben’s background vocals my favorite part.
Totally loved this band from ages 16 to 22....awesome memories listening to every lil click, beat n sound they are so famous for 💙 keep jammin Ric n Ben
Man, I know The Cars were before The Cure’s mid-late 80s sound, but this song just gives off a bit of Cure vibes, especially in some of the vocal deliveries by Ric Ocasek
This is one of the bands that defined my life as a teenager in the early 1980's. In the mid 1990's I was privileged to live and manage a Gramercy Park, NY restaurant where they were frequent visitors. I spent time with Paulina (Mrs Ocasek) at the Union Square dog run where she would bring their dog Dexter (a beautiful King Cavalier Spaniel) to play. They were and always will be a beautiful memory in an unforgettable time of my life. I love The Cars, and I will forever cherish having my path cross theirs, even briefly. I frequently would see Ric at the local grocery store buying eggs and milk and cereal for his family. I told him how his band and his music shaped my life. He was gracious and courteous and was not at all offended by being recognized. My heart goes out to his family at a time which can only be described as a devastating loss. His music will live on forever.
My big sister was my angel. She was 18 years older than me, and took care of me when my parents weren't around...she was everything I wanted to be. She loved The Cars, and had us (her daughter and I) listen to them with her all the time. She was killed in an accident (drunk driver) on August 30, 1992. I miss her still. Sometimes, she randomly makes her presence known to me. On August 30, 2018, I went to the grocery store in the middle of the day. It was eerily quiet in there that day. I meandered through the aisles in a trance, getting my things, when this song came over the grocery store radio. I just dropped everything and cried right there in the middle of the store. Love you forever Teri
Had almost exact same experience in a store. Was thinking about our 24 yo daughter that had passed when all of a sudden, a song she was practicing singing came over the store radio. My wife and I knew it was her.
Ric was incredible. He knew just what song to lead & sing & what song for Ben to be lead vocals. What a mastermind. The songs The Cars put out will last a lifetime. Thank you to the band The Cars. Well done
I do the same for my Grandkids especially the Granddaughter I keep full time just turned 11 months last week so yeah we watch music videos together and she enjoys them really well. 70s and 80s and 90s. Our Children And Grandchildren Plus The Music We Enjoyed Is A BLESSING From JESUS.

@@Utubesux feel good music man when I want to feel good this is what I listen to. And they don't have just a couple songs, every song. Albums and albums full of songs!!! The most underrated band in the world.
absolutely!
Such a great band. Loving them 40 years now. Wish I could have seen them in concert back in the day. One of my all time favorite groups.
I was lucky to have seen them, blondie, 80,s rocked
I AM FROM NEW ENGLAND I WENT AND SAW THEM AT OVER 20 DIFFERENT SHOWS FROM 1977-1984 BOSTON,WORCESTER,HARTFOD,SPRINGFIELD,PROVIDENCE, MANCHESTER,BURLINGTON,MANCHESTER,CAPE COD,OGUNQUIT,,BRIDGEPORT ❤😊😊
These guys were light years ahead of everyone else
This music
Is still cutting edge
All the rifts
Change up s
Yet still holding the beat
So much talent at
So young an age
Thanks guys

and the rim shots
I would not trade my High School years 1981-85 for anything except for the chance to do it all one more time. Ric and his band mates played as huge of a role in teen life during the iconic 80's.
Beautifully put, same here, class of 88
83-87
86 to 89... great times... too bad the Democrats and way too much technology are screwing shtuff up for the kids today!
'80-'84 for me...agreed👍🏻
1979 - 1983 here, but was a music crazed kid from age 5 (Born in 65) , so the early 1970s through about 1998 are my favorite years. I LOVE The CARS especially!! RIP RO and BO !
My favorite Cars song. So happy Ric lived to see The Cars inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... RIP
Long overdue
Rarly seen Classic MTV video from 1981 Awesome 👌.
Thank You 🙏
Ric and Benjamin Orr
The Cars 🚗 Will Always Be a Big Part of My Life!!!
I like the addition of the tap shoes. There was a lot of creativity back then. Artists did a lot with a little.
My only complaint about the Cars is they had 13 more years while Ben was alive and they could have given us maybe another 4 or 6 albums.
I can’t explain how much that statement made me feel good.
Well...I would think that would have been Rics job. Just thinking.
My favorite Cars song....omg I love the sound of that guitar
I agree fully!
Elliott Easton was such a great and underrated guitar player. I know Cars fans think the sound was based around Hawkes on Keyboards and Orr on bass but Easton's riffs were great.
Jim BearNJ Elliot is a guitar master. EVH hated him for some reason.
RIP Ric and Ben!! Thanks for leaving us with the memories of all the talent you gave us! So sad you both will be missed!!
Love the cars, unique band, have their own sound. Actually played their instruments. What?
These guys were fn awesome. One of the first groups that made me fall in love with music.
Rest in Peace
Ric Ocasek & Benjamin Orr.
DodgerFan1988 I can’t believe they’re both gone. Being from Boston the Cars were a huge part of my life.
they are jamming together
Totally loved this band from ages 16 to 22....awesome memories listening to every lil click, beat n sound they are so famous for 💙 keep jammin Ric n Ben
My feature ski movie that I hope to make will feature this band prominently.
♥️
A great band that doesn't get played enough anymore
Since you're gone. I had to say goodbye and thanks for the music.
RIP Mr Ocasek...talk about the soundtrack of my childhood, thanks for all the memories of simpler times. 💙
Man, I know The Cars were before The Cure’s mid-late 80s sound, but this song just gives off a bit of Cure vibes, especially in some of the vocal deliveries by Ric Ocasek
Everything this band did was just so f-ing COOL! Rip Ric
One of the best guitar solos by Elliot Easton.
Can't believe I only now just noticed he's a southpaw.
I LOVE his guitar work.
@@xpcvrqff oh sh--- you're right! Him & Hendrix, salutes the southpaws.
Jeeezz when I wrote this I had no idea hours later...RIP (Rise In Power) Ric. Thank you for The Cars and helping bring Bad Brains to the wider public.
Channelling Robert Fripp
This song is so beautiful and deeply emotional. I feel like crying & I never cry
Thanks for the music. RIP
Wow, thanx for those memories...
@@Ranger11413 my condolences for your loss
@@g.peirano thank you ♥️
80's jewel , the unique vocals of Ric Ocasek. I want my MTV , hahaha.
Your songs would make me smile even on a bad day. They're truly magic. And this one is among the very top of my list. RIP Ric.
I agree, its uplifting and happy music😅.
11-29-24 I love the unique sound of The Cars.
Ric was incredible. He knew just what song to lead & sing & what song for Ben to be lead vocals. What a mastermind. The songs The Cars put out will last a lifetime. Thank you to the band The Cars. Well done
R I P glad they got to see the hall of fame induction
Well, Ric did. Unfortunately, Benjamin didn't.
@@terryc.3390 so true and sad
fucking ridiculous it took so long
I'm so glad they got it! ❤
RRHOF is joke.
I'm having a blast playing these songs for my 5 grandkids, hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's! Thanks for the video❤👍🏻
Ric, may you R.I.P. 😔 The Car's music is legendary 80's music. Thanks Ric for all the music you gave us brother. You are a legend! AND WILL GO WATCH "LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN" BECAUSE THERES ALOT OF YOUR MUSIC ON THAT MOVIE SOUNDTRACK!!! ...Thanks for all the good times music CARS!!!
Love that movie and the soundtrack is an extra bonus.
My wife died three years ago on 12 of Dec 2020. I love the eighties middle class home. Home is what I lost when she left. This song helped me not take my own life those first few years. I miss you Nancy B.
Lost mine 09-13-19
I know what your going through.
It's so heavy. Stay strong. One day at a time.
I would talk privately if you ever would want.
I just don't know anybody who really "gets it".
Hope you are doing well regardless.
edit: 9-17-22 My wife passed in 2017. I was in horrible shape for so long my friends. "Feeling stronger everyday" by Chicago is always my follow up track.
I was a sad lonely man. Thank you life. Thank you cars.
Sincere condolences my brother
The Cars were the best in the 70’s and 80’s, graduated in 1985. Unbelievable sounds and unique and awesome music.
1986 for me. Good times roll
1984 here, we did have some damn good music, late 70s early 80s were an avalanche of good tunes.
Just another reminder time stops for no one. RIP Ric.
I can't help it everything's a mess !! So true ; R.I.P. Ric😭
Cold Case.
1981...I was 13 years old and living in the suburbs of Palo Alto, Ca....fun times.
I was just down the road In Redwood City Ca.

+SweetSweetWaldo i was 16 in philly those were the days with the cars. the best
I was 13, also, and living in Sunnyvale, Ca.
Since you gone. Man, so true!
My favorite Cars Song!!!❤❤
I love everything about this band. This song is awesome. They make the MOST out of EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT. Even the bass line in this song, which isn't complex, adds so much to the finished product. And, those guitar solos are freaking awesome. BTW, miss Ben Orr like crazy. RIP Ben.
Best listening thru real headphones really loud in the dark...
You nailed it: "They make the MOST out of EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT. " Coincidentally, I had the same assessment in my comment somewhere up this thread.
I woke up today and thought of the opening clicking......and the need to expose my kids to such cool music....update of the Dad's car soundtrack......hope the kids in 15 years remember this and think Dad was pretty groovy
perfect 1981 was a whole different era miss those days and music nothing is for real today...even people have changed so much sad to say.....have a good day- thanks utube
@Justin Time You guys better get a mullet , for old times sake~!
Thank you for the GREAT music! Now you and Benjamin Orr can jam together again. R.I.P Ric
Rick and Ben may you rest in peace ..you brought us something so different and unique and so unforgettable.
This song is a masterpiece..
It was a privilege for me to have lived in the 80's... 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The Cars’ music still appeals to me, some forty years later.
Sending this up to heaven for my husband keith....I can't help it..everything's a mess
RIP Ric
One of my favorites growing up.
What a talent
RIP Rick Ocasek. I heard this song playing in the supermarket Saturday and woke up with it in my head Sunday morning. This was before hearing of his death.

Wow this dazzling awesome rock song, this emotionally wounding reawakening of past memories, still alive and instantly relatable.
Still loving this song! ❤😊
Great tune, never get sick of the way it starts
