RimeTime I guess it's how you look at things. Guitar solos in songs by The Cars are very overlooked, and it's been said in music publications. Also, These guys had a very different sounds for modern rock bands in the late 70s. That and sadly, these guys weren't able to conquer Europe or other territories. So I'd say they're pretty underrated. Not that they weren't successful, It just doesn't seem that they're categorized with other BIG NAME bands. Just a thought, though...
CartoonsAndGameShows Shake it up (as a single) went to number 10 in Austrailia. And up to number 10 in France. At times they were on the charts around the world. You underestimated their range. But as for conquering bands, yeah they did not have the impact like conquering bands such as Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Van Halen - etc. But you can blame the radio programmers in part. Back then, when you got less air play you got less attention.
Forgive me, I'm 24. BUT, I've listened to more of The Cars than I've listened to The Beatles, Stones, etc combined. But that's a story for another day;)
Ric was incredible. He knew just what song to lead & sing & what song for Ben to be lead vocals. What a mastermind. The songs The Cars put out will last a lifetime. Thank you to the band The Cars. Well done

Being from the Boston area, we got flooded with J'Geils, Aerosmith, The Cars, Del Feugoes..other local bands...It all seemed to become back round music...Now, going back to all those bands, I realize how great they all were..
Amen brother. WBCN used to feature local bands and helped the Cars and others. Miss the bonfire keg parties in NH at the time. That was a Great time to be in Bean town.
Totally loved this band from ages 16 to 22....awesome memories listening to every lil click, beat n sound they are so famous for 💙 keep jammin Ric n Ben
Probably my favorite Cars song. The lyric ‘… the moonlight ain’t so great’ and ‘took the big vacation’ say it so vividly. Easton is such a great guitar player.

This is one of the bands that defined my life as a teenager in the early 1980's. In the mid 1990's I was privileged to live and manage a Gramercy Park, NY restaurant where they were frequent visitors. I spent time with Paulina (Mrs Ocasek) at the Union Square dog run where she would bring their dog Dexter (a beautiful King Cavalier Spaniel) to play. They were and always will be a beautiful memory in an unforgettable time of my life. I love The Cars, and I will forever cherish having my path cross theirs, even briefly. I frequently would see Ric at the local grocery store buying eggs and milk and cereal for his family. I told him how his band and his music shaped my life. He was gracious and courteous and was not at all offended by being recognized. My heart goes out to his family at a time which can only be described as a devastating loss. His music will live on forever.
I would not trade my High School years 1981-85 for anything except for the chance to do it all one more time. Ric and his band mates played as huge of a role in teen life during the iconic 80's.
1979 - 1983 here, but was a music crazed kid from age 5 (Born in 65) , so the early 1970s through about 1998 are my favorite years. I LOVE The CARS especially!! RIP RO and BO !
I do the same for my Grandkids especially the Granddaughter I keep full time just turned 11 months last week so yeah we watch music videos together and she enjoys them really well. 70s and 80s and 90s. Our Children And Grandchildren Plus The Music We Enjoyed Is A BLESSING From JESUS.

I love everything about this band. This song is awesome. They make the MOST out of EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT. Even the bass line in this song, which isn't complex, adds so much to the finished product. And, those guitar solos are freaking awesome. BTW, miss Ben Orr like crazy. RIP Ben.
perfect 1981 was a whole different era miss those days and music nothing is for real today...even people have changed so much sad to say.....have a good day- thanks utube
There will never be another band like the Cars. Their sound was unique to rock music and no one can duplicate it. I saw the Cars in the Omni in Atlanta in 1980 and it was an awesome concert. I've been a Cars fan since Moving In Stereo.
In 81, when I was 6, my dad bought this LP. He took it home, put the needle on the record and blasted the album until his speakers gave out. I heard 'Since You're Gone', and it's still my favorite track ever.
Just a masterpiece. The video is funny but the music is just wow. As a drummer and at 54 I appreciate these guys more and more everyday…grew up on them. My Beatles
I'm 54 too. I've loved The Cars since I was 14. The clerk at the record store told me drums on Candeo was phenomenal. It was as you know. They are fucking great!
@@jamesdavison8709 they started in 76 and their first two records were released in 78 and 79, respectively. This type of musicianship is a product of the 70's.
Elliott Easton was such a great and underrated guitar player. I know Cars fans think the sound was based around Hawkes on Keyboards and Orr on bass but Easton's riffs were great.
Totally agree, Matt. I grew up where Ben is buried. Will be going to his grave this Friday, September 8th, to wish him a Happy Birthday. Such a great talent.
Matt Kincade guitar solo is unbelievable. Sounds like horn and keyboards mixed in. The tone is so wailing and almost like it’s crying. Unless I’m naive and it’s not just guitar. The bassline and Ben’s background vocals my favorite part.
The Cars are as iconic a band to me as there was in the late 70's to the mid 80's. When memories of high school come up, The Cars music and vibe are right there with those memories and when i here a song by them some high school memory always follows. My teenage days in the midwest theme song at my H.S. was "Let the good times roll". The link with Fast times at Ridgemont High soldified there history with teens everywhere and not just the midwest as i had presumed. Moving in stereo is to The Cars what Tom Saywer is to Rush. The irony of 2 of the best bands in that same era still being played today on stations yet taking so long to be inducted in R & R Hall of Fame is almost irritating if you really think about it. Both bands also showed longevity so not to mistake them with other 1 or 2 album bands. I think i was pretty lucky to grow up listening to such talented musicians/writers with there own unique styles and attitudes
Five years ago I posted two comments about “Since You’re Gone” by the Cars. It takes on a new meaning nowadays. My wife Annie passed away on January 11, 2024 at 4:50 pm. Babe, the moonlight ain’t so great. Onions all around. Miss you and love you still.

And yes we probably should better follow the motto "die young and leave a beautiful corpse", but i guess it's a bit too late for that now. Actually i could stand everything if the world wouldn't be so extremely boring and uncool nowadays, i mean...even my parents had more fun in the 80's than the 20-25 years kids nowadays. I wouldn't exchange my 80's and 90's life experiences for being a 20 years old nowadays, not even for a spine of steel ;-D
Stay cool & noble mate and ROCK ON ! ;-)
King Without A Crown
Yet again I here ya M8 3 back ops last one was a fusion fused disks in my neck and two heart attacks.... Wouldn't change a thing though lol Well I would probably done a turn in the service.... maybe. About kids now a day's...... I have met a few that we would have used to call plonkers. and more then a few outright bell ends and I don't mean from Worcestershire. lol
These guys are so underrated. Top 10 band all time
These guys were NEVER underrated
RimeTime I guess it's how you look at things. Guitar solos in songs by The Cars are very overlooked, and it's been said in music publications. Also, These guys had a very different sounds for modern rock bands in the late 70s. That and sadly, these guys weren't able to conquer Europe or other territories. So I'd say they're pretty underrated. Not that they weren't successful, It just doesn't seem that they're categorized with other BIG NAME bands. Just a thought, though...
Daniel Hunt If someone found them to be underrated then they were not alive when this song came out back in 1982. The cars were huge in the USA.
CartoonsAndGameShows Shake it up (as a single) went to number 10 in Austrailia. And up to number 10 in France. At times they were on the charts
around the world. You underestimated their range. But as for conquering bands, yeah they did not have the impact like conquering bands such as Led Zeppelin,
the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Van Halen - etc. But you can blame the radio programmers in part. Back then, when you got less air play you got less attention.
Forgive me, I'm 24.
BUT, I've listened to more of The Cars than I've listened to The Beatles, Stones, etc combined. But that's a story for another day;)
What high-school student didnt love The Cars in the 70s, The Cars in 78 and Candy'O in 79 was huge albums! Great song!
RIP Ric. Reunited with Ben Orr in heaven. Thanks for your gift of music.
Ben Orr the greatest ever now has his pal back :)

Ric was incredible. He knew just what song to lead & sing & what song for Ben to be lead vocals. What a mastermind. The songs The Cars put out will last a lifetime. Thank you to the band The Cars. Well done
Love the cars, unique band, have their own sound. Actually played their instruments. What?

absolutely!
I love this video. The eggs disappear ing from the pan. Quirky, don’t care band that decorated my youth with a car full of my favorite songs. This band and their music is just as important now as it was then.
Thanks CARS 🚘
RIP Rick Ocasek. I heard this song playing in the supermarket Saturday and woke up with it in my head Sunday morning. This was before hearing of his death.

Cold Case.
One of the best guitar solos by Elliot Easton.
Can't believe I only now just noticed he's a southpaw.
I LOVE his guitar work.
@@xpcvrqff oh sh--- you're right! Him & Hendrix, salutes the southpaws.
Jeeezz when I wrote this I had no idea hours later...RIP (Rise In Power) Ric. Thank you for The Cars and helping bring Bad Brains to the wider public.
Channelling Robert Fripp
The cars and Van Halen debuted the same year. Great year.
18 Sept 2024 .. this track rocks ... that tap dancing rhythm ... under-rated
80s cruising...wondering how red my eyes were.
Early eighties - kids listen, this is the stuff of dreams. Video was a new medium.
Since you're gone. I had to say goodbye and thanks for the music.
Who's listening to this Gem in July 2024? 😊
My friend and I were jamming out
Being from the Boston area, we got flooded with J'Geils, Aerosmith, The Cars, Del Feugoes..other local bands...It all seemed to become back round music...Now, going back to all those bands, I realize how great they all were..
Amen brother.
WBCN used to feature local bands and helped the Cars and others. Miss the bonfire keg parties in NH at the time.
That was a Great time to be
in Bean town.
I thought I was done with this but apparently I'm forever destined to be in perfect tense

Totally loved this band from ages 16 to 22....awesome memories listening to every lil click, beat n sound they are so famous for 💙 keep jammin Ric n Ben
My feature ski movie that I hope to make will feature this band prominently.
♥️
80's jewel , the unique vocals of Ric Ocasek. I want my MTV , hahaha.
Probably my favorite Cars song. The lyric ‘… the moonlight ain’t so great’ and ‘took the big vacation’ say it so vividly. Easton is such a great guitar player.
Your songs would make me smile even on a bad day. They're truly magic. And this one is among the very top of my list. RIP Ric.
I agree, its uplifting and happy music😅.
Ric, may you R.I.P. 😔 The Car's music is legendary 80's music. Thanks Ric for all the music you gave us brother. You are a legend! AND WILL GO WATCH "LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN" BECAUSE THERES ALOT OF YOUR MUSIC ON THAT MOVIE SOUNDTRACK!!! ...Thanks for all the good times music CARS!!!
Love that movie and the soundtrack is an extra bonus.
These guys were fn awesome. One of the first groups that made me fall in love with music.
Wow, thanx for those memories...
I would not trade my High School years 1981-85 for anything except for the chance to do it all one more time. Ric and his band mates played as huge of a role in teen life during the iconic 80's.
Beautifully put, same here, class of 88
83-87
86 to 89... great times... too bad the Democrats and way too much technology are screwing shtuff up for the kids today!
'80-'84 for me...agreed👍🏻
1979 - 1983 here, but was a music crazed kid from age 5 (Born in 65) , so the early 1970s through about 1998 are my favorite years. I LOVE The CARS especially!! RIP RO and BO !
A great band that doesn't get played enough anymore
Just glad I was a teenager in the 80's great videos and music!
what a time it was!
Yes I was a teenager then too. Remember getting Panorama on 8 track
No shit
The Cars were a big part of the soundtrack of my youth too.👍
Me too! 😃
RIP. Now you're with Ben. Thank you for all the happy memories of watching your videos on MTV.
I'm having a blast playing these songs for my 5 grandkids, hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's! Thanks for the video❤👍🏻
My wife died three years ago on 12 of Dec 2020. I love the eighties middle class home. Home is what I lost when she left. This song helped me not take my own life those first few years. I miss you Nancy B.
Lost mine 09-13-19
I know what your going through.
It's so heavy. Stay strong. One day at a time.
I would talk privately if you ever would want.
I just don't know anybody who really "gets it".
Hope you are doing well regardless.
edit: 9-17-22 My wife passed in 2017. I was in horrible shape for so long my friends. "Feeling stronger everyday" by Chicago is always my follow up track.
I was a sad lonely man. Thank you life. Thank you cars.
Sincere condolences my brother
Just another reminder time stops for no one. RIP Ric.
I can't help it everything's a mess !! So true ; R.I.P. Ric😭
Cold Case.
‘Since you’re gone’ one of their best
This song is a masterpiece..
It was a privilege for me to have lived in the 80's... 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Rarly seen Classic MTV video from 1981 Awesome 👌.
Wow this dazzling awesome rock song, this emotionally wounding reawakening of past memories, still alive and instantly relatable.
RIP Ben.
Best listening thru real headphones really loud in the dark...
You nailed it: "They make the MOST out of EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT. " Coincidentally, I had the same assessment in my comment somewhere up this thread.
Still loving this song! ❤😊
One of the very few rock bands that simply cannot be imitated ,copied or duplicated. Their sound is recognizable immediately. RIP Ben and Ric
perfect 1981 was a whole different era miss those days and music nothing is for real today...even people have changed so much sad to say.....have a good day- thanks utube
@Justin Time You guys better get a mullet , for old times sake~!
RIP Ric Ocasek, thank you for the tunes that can be jammed generation to generation!
doesn't get much better.
There will never be another band like the Cars. Their sound was unique to rock music and no one can duplicate it. I saw the Cars in the Omni in Atlanta in 1980 and it was an awesome concert. I've been a Cars fan since Moving In Stereo.
Soooo many amazing songs!! So many memories growing up with The Cars! RIP to one of the greats!
ELLIOT EASTON IS BY FAR THE BEST GUITARIST EVER!
RIP Ric
One of my favorites growing up.
What a talent
R I P Ric, your legend lives on through the legacy of great music you left us. You will be missed.
Sending this up to heaven for my husband keith....I can't help it..everything's a mess
In 81, when I was 6, my dad bought this LP. He took it home, put the needle on the record and blasted the album until his speakers gave out. I heard 'Since You're Gone', and it's still my favorite track ever.
This song is eerily fitting now.
RIP Ric.
Thanks for all the amazing music.
Just a masterpiece. The video is funny but the music is just wow. As a drummer and at 54 I appreciate these guys more and more everyday…grew up on them. My Beatles
Totally agree This song is a freaking work of art
As a former drummer at 51 I couldn’t agree more. 🥁
The Cars, an awesome eighties band
My favorite Cars song....omg I love the sound of that guitar
I agree fully!
Elliott Easton was such a great and underrated guitar player. I know Cars fans think the sound was based around Hawkes on Keyboards and Orr on bass but Easton's riffs were great.
Jim BearNJ Elliot is a guitar master. EVH hated him for some reason.
Yeah, they were really great, weren't they?
Five years ago I posted two comments about “Since You’re Gone” by the Cars. It takes on a new meaning nowadays. My wife Annie passed away on January 11, 2024 at 4:50 pm. Babe, the moonlight ain’t so great. Onions all around. Miss you and love you still.
Damn, didn't think watching this would get me emotional. But it has. RIP Ric. I hope you and Ben are jamming in the stars forever now.
The music in Heaven just keeps on getting better and better. Unfortunately, we're stuck here on earth and the music just keeps on getting shittier and shittier!
RIP, Ric and thanks for the great 80's memories.
So true
Still, count yourself lucky that you experienced the music in heaven without having to die for the privilege (same for me).
@@jimmjohnson1416 Yeah, good point. At least we got to experience music when it was still good unlike a lot of the garbage that’s come out in the past few decades!
The Cars’ music still appeals to me, some forty years later.
