Carving my first turkey ever in my 40 years of life and this made it seem really easy. For a first video, now I'm confident to get it done! new favorite channel!

First of all the camera loves you, second of all your vibe is infectious John. I feel like you could do a breakdown of anything and I couldn’t help but have a smile on my face. Really well done, cheers to you and yours 🍷

You make it look so easy. Mine looks like a ten year old did it. One Thanksgiving dinner, we asked a cleaning lady to help in the kitchen. We had 40 people over. I made the mistake of asking her if she knew how to carve the the turkey. She said yes. Our jaws hit the floor watching her rip the turkey bare handed into pieces. Live and learn!!

I was the carver last year by default. Had no idea what I was doing. This year I’m excited after watching this video. Thank you!

I used to cook at a country club so I was always the designated “carver” for gatherings. Jokes on them because I was a pastry chef lol and had never had to carve a turkey for my job. I did carve roast beef and one time I did a MASSIVE “steamship cut” (150-200lb chunk of beef) for our buffet events but never a turkey! At least I know now. Absolutely love this channel.

Thank you, John. I am so excited to cook my turkey this year. I’m 70 years old and have never baked a turkey. I just watched your video on that and then jumped right over here to see how to carve it. I feel so encouraged and confident That this bird is going to be delicious. Plus, the reason I’m even cooking a turkey this year (its just me), well, my main goal is to make turkey stock and soup. And you told us how to do that here. So I’m extra excited! Thank you so much, again. I really enjoy your videos. You give a wonderful presentation, I love your humor, and it’s just like being there with you in the kitchen, especially when there’s little mishaps. How you saved that torn turkey by sewing it together with pins… Brilliant! Who’d dah thunk it 😆
From Santa Cruz, California I wish you and yours everything that’s good and wonderful for the holidays and always❤

Hi John, It's the day after Thanksgiving and I wanted to thank you so much for this video. I watched it and sent it to my husband (he's the carver in the family). He followed your instructions and said it was the easiest time he's ever had carving the turkey. Thanks so much for the video. PS: I also followed your turkey roasting instructions and was told repeatedly it was the best turkey they'd ever tasted. So glad I found you here. 😊😊

I did that once, also I have cooked a turkey The trash can method where you use a galvanized trash can and I also smoked one in my Weber.
The one on the Weber that was smoked I carved up like this My wife she wasn't mad but she wasn't happy because seeing those large chunks instead of slice thinly It was hard for her to adapt to a different way of doing it. It came out great moist juicy tender flavorful but she preferred thin slices.😊

Very helpful and thanks for posting. Just one question: after the cooked turkey's been sitting for at least 30 minutes and after spending 15 minutes carving it (exposing it to air), the meat will no longer be warm. At least that's been my experience. Do you reheat the bird on a platter or do you just rely on hot gravy to keep it warm. Again, thanks.

Hey John - one teeny, tiny issue. @0:29, you refer to a honing steel as "your sharpener.". A honing steel is NOT a knife sharpener. It merely focuses the edge of the knife, but does nothing to actually sharpen it.
Please address this in a future video. I was previously misled on this fact by another UA-camr and I made an absolute fool of myself in a cooking class. The chef schooled me in front of 8 peers.
I'd hate for any of your viewers to carry forward this misnomer.

    • @virginiadaneke2362

Looks amazing and I feel confident now that I can carve it. Question though... isn't the turkey cold by the time all this is done? Seems like resting for 30 minutes and then all the time it's going to take to carve this up... do you end up having to heat it back up before serving?
