the only time I saw any Saiyan flickering in and out of Super Saiyan was in the end of Dragon Ball Super, and it is one of the most beloved scenes by fans.
I would pay real money for this to be made into a series. Honestly, this is the best Dragon Ball fan film I have ever seen. When Goku became Sun Wukong, I got chills.
It’s so deeply inaccurate but I just can’t bring myself to care because it’s SO BEAUTIFUL! And yes, when he resembled his inspiration Sun Wukong the Monkey King, even using a monkey style of martial arts for a sec there, I lost my mind, this is amazing, and I would also pay money for this
What blew me away was how Vegeta turned super Saiyan out of the box and still got his but kicked and Goku turned into something more powerful than we could have ever imagine. If this was a movie I want to be first in line to see it
The way the fights are animated in this is how I always wished fights were animated in anime but most studios don't even come close to pulling it off. the fight choreography just flows perfectly with each sequence following up on the last without a hitch. Characters flip around and react to each others movements and attacks accordingly in each desperate attempt to land one good hit. Broly fights like an absolute unit who could break you in half instantly and makes each strike feel absolutely devastating. Vegeta flips and dodges every one of them as he pushes closer, taking advantage of each opening without getting greedy, keeping in mind the formidable threat his opponent poses. Weaving in and out of his opponents strikes and delivering blow after blow in between. It's not good enough for either to claim victory quickly. Since both are giving it their all, neither gets out unscathed. This is how fights should be animated. It flows perfectly without sacrificing the sense of speed or clarity of the movements with top-notch fight choreography. It never feels like it slows down to give you room to breath, but you're never rewinding to ask yourself wtf just happened. This guy is a talented af animator and I hope we continue to see more of this from him.
@@RoboJean1994 It's too short for context on nearly anything in the timeline shown and thus jokes would just feel forced, but I found Chi-Chi and Gokus dialog pretty amusing in the beginning.
Yeah it was god tier the only thing I could think of if I had to nit pick would be goku's transformation. Idk if that's a cameo to some other show but that type of transformation isn't something that would occur in dragon ball
When the lightning strikes at the beginning of Goku's transformation it creates the kanji for "Heaven" in the clouds. That level of detail is literally divine.
I love that this animation shows how difficult it can be to maintain a power mode during combat. They say early on in the series that it's tough to keep SSJ going, that it needs constant mental effort to keep up. So, the detail of vegeta losing concentration and him forcing the transformation back out when he loses it is just * mwah *. Fantastic work by everyone.
I agree! I loved that detail of him going in and out of the transformation when he took some of the bigger hits to emphasize how staggering the blows were and his resolve to keep fighting.

Man, that one hit home. I remember I even tried holding a paper against the TV screen and tried to trace Gohan once, lmao. That didn't work, obviously, so I had to try and copy what I saw on the TV just by pausing and looking.
The thought of Goku having that specific transformation based on the myth he is named for "Son-goku/Son-Wukong" is pure genius. And this whole alternate reality story already has me invested. The potential this 10 minute short film has trumps what most shows or movies try to do with hours.
"The potential this 10 minute short film has trumps what most shows or movies try to do with hours" This is my biggest take away. It genuinely makes DB, DBZ and DBS look like it was written by children as all those shows follow the same exact shonen cliches and have the same overall story in each arc. So much so, DBS is incredibly stale. This is so fresh, it makes me want to go to the Sahara just to warm up a little lmao

i so much agree, they took the sci aspects introduced into Z and re wrote them to be more rooted in the original motifs of Dragon Ball. the more primal /fire versions of super saiyan feels way more natural than the simple power ups we see in Z.
This is a true love letter to a series that means so much to so many of you. You have shown a lot of people what dragon ball can be, should be, has been, and is. I thank you for bringing this to life, alongside everyone else who contributed. I look forward to your next project!
@@dvda9725 Dude, you literally camp in this particular comment section just to spread negativity. It's been three months, go find something better to do, goofy.
I just love the detail of Vegeta snapping in and out of his super saiyan form every time he gets staggered. It really gives off the impression that he has to consciously maintain the transformation rather than just being a power up that stays on during the fight, and it adds so much weight to the battle since he can be knocked back to base form for a split second. Overall, I just love every little detail in this animation and I'm just glad so many other people appreciate it too :)
Also, Vegeta totally switched tactics when he formed the sword, because he couldn’t maintain both it and the super-state at the same time, but the super-state wasn’t working so he tried something completely different.
Oh, and there are moments where Vegeta also gets a semi-bestial expression like Goku does, like he’s skirting the line between going properly super-Saiyan and going into the more uncontrolled state that Goku discovered. It’s a neat way to hint that they’re both drawing on the same ability.
Bro where was I when this fire animation released, like bro that raging Goku, Broly with one hand almost killing Vegeta, And they both using the Kamehameha to defeat Broly was like "French kiss". I loved the way Goku turned ino the fiery beast with OG super saiyan Rage was perfect and nostalgic.
I mostly like this version of Chi-Chi because, unlike the DBZ version of the girl who is the daughter of, until Goku, the strongest man alive who ruled an entire kingdom, THIS version of Chi-Chi kept up with her training to the point that she could apparently hold her own against an alien from outerspace who is an overpowered battle hungry freak of nature.
I love the fact that this implies that master roshi's technique is so well known that even a race of warriors across the universe know of him and the Kamehameha.

Not really mindblowing on the account for having the ability lol, people have the tools these days, it's just most don't have the willingness to invest time learning skills towards it, as they rather enjoy a product than make fanworks that contribute to it. Then for most, at least in the west, there is this idea that fanworks are a lesser thing because they're not "official." The guy behind this obvious didn't think that way, thank goodness, lol!

Stuff like how Broly's transformation makes him grow in size, and even Trunks did that once, but costed him his speed, or why SSJ3 makes the hair grow like that. Like another comment said, this is how it felt to watch the show as a kid.

I noticed something at 7:19. At first I was going to comment on how awesome it was to make Master Muten Roshi so respected in this universe that even King Vegeta has studied his techniques, then I realized that this is a reference to one of Sun Wukong's more obscure abilities which is to transfer knowledge of certain things via crossing of the palms or wrists. It's details like this that elevate this animation into the realms of, well, Legend.
Actually it was whoever came up with Sun Wukong mythology. That person inspired Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball inspired One Piece and so on. Just let that sink.
@@k.r.99 Sun Wukong mythology was definitely inspired from something before as well.. we cannot just pretend everything that came first inspired more, otherwise the bible would just stomp every other fiction source... it's more valuable to measure how many things were *directly* inspired by a single opera. In which case Dragon Ball is the oriental king of the 20th century
@MashuSlyferiux dunno about the whole thing about the bible since it wasn't exactly an original piece of work itself with MANY influences from previous stories and religions, but yeah. Even if an idea draws from something and is "unoriginal", the time it came out in and HOW it does it can be. Villains can become protagonists, comedies can tragedies, and what is groundbreaking becomes standard. Dragonball wasn't pretentious nor did Toriyama claim he was the first one to make some gags based on Journey to the West, he just wanted to see what he could do with his funny little monkey boy and what adventures he could come up with.
What I like is as Goku is going full-blown demon, Vegeta sees what would be a worrying transformation in any other show and smiles. With his more intimate familiarity of the Super Saiyan form in this world, and his words about Goku's form being more uncontrolled than normal, it's safe to assume that Vegeta has seen this a lot in his people training to go Super- maybe even went through it himself as he was learning to harness the light!
I know that everyone’s talking about the animation.. and it definitely is phenomenal, but why is no one also talking about the stellar voice acting in this? Somebody hire everyone involved in this lol
Even the voice acting was great. My favorite thing was goku's transformation looking more like wukong. Just how the whole thing leans into that influence more. It's a brilliant way to make your take distinct without disrespecting the source material. Just brilliant!
That’s not the only example of connections Goku to his inspiration. Sun Wukong has the ability to share his techniques or copy them onto other people, hence how vegeta was changed into super saiyan and was able to use the Kamehameha
@@joetheturtle7768 also in the og dragonball how he esencialy learned a weak but still decent Kamehameha wave when he was just a kid a technique that would take years to learn and decades to Master
Goku's transformation is definitely disrespecting the source material. It's just Naruto's nine tailed beast transformation but a monkey instead of a fox. That's a whole different anime.
I love this way too much. And watching it again after a few years is even more magical, because I understand how hard and animation and voice acting are (it also has one of my fav voice actors, elsie lovelock!!). Well done to everyone who worked on it, truly. You are all the true super saiyans!

The small details and your own take on the Dragonball lore make this a masterpiece. Vegeta representative of a true King rather than the villain we all loved him to be, Goku's oblivious nature, Vegeta's jacket to Bulma and her slight smile while sitting next to Yamcha, the scouter teetering on being over 9000, the inclusion of your personal mix of score from dragonball, tournament of power, and ssj3, inclusion of Vegeta's OG scripted lines, the grit a Saiyan possesses to fight through a broken body...and the seamless fight sequences that make us feel those body shots, the power of Broly causing a brief power down, and the never ending rage that we all love in our Saiyans.
I can't tell you how much I loved this. It's been so long since a fan-made DBZ animation has kept me glued to the screen. This has to be one of the best ever made.

@@amuroray9115 sure that's your opinion but for me z is my childhood and could you give me some examples of the power creep issues you're talking about cause I never really noticed any
This was everything I loved about DBZ as a child, dialed up to 11. The callback to old Broly, mixing Faulconer & Kikuchi music, the new concepts that fit cleanly with classic DBZ (Vegeta's sword, Goku's amazing Son Wukong transformation), the redesigns with tails, the brutality of the fights, Vegeta actually appearing regal like a king, and ending it all with a combo Kamehameha instead of having Vegeta job for the 1000th time. This man truly understands the core what DBZ fans loved and want to see more of, much more than Super's writers do. It's a shame that modern DB content will never capture that magic like this did.

all the best qualities of dragonball wrapped up in god tier animation
SO GOOD AHHH
Well, it's missing the comedy but otherwise I agree
Agreed Shgurr!

7:04 - 7:08 is a moment I just can't get over. That delay between the impact of the punch and the launch from the punch is done so perfectly.
Maybe that's why he transfered the power from the form into a technique. Easier to maintain. But all offense
It was amazing to see they lose ssj and gain it back while fighting
The regular series should adapt this
Very well said. I was thinking the same during the fight.

I just love the detail of Vegeta snapping in and out of his super saiyan form every time he gets staggered. Overall, I just love every little detail in this animation and I'm just glad so many other people appreciate it too :)
Yessss!! This jumped out at me. Awesome!
One of the best comments that I have seen on this video
It also shows how fucking powerful Broly is, able to knock you back to base with one hit lol

Then after the saiyan arc, than another time after the namek arc. The trend continues onward. Toriyama been trying to let the franchise rest for decades but it's beyond any one person's power now. DragonBall is its own entity, a new age zeitgeist
@@vilkarmooringstead5346 fr as much as I love dB I think it's better if it had ended after z
@@realmrpro5751 it honestly should have ended with OG Dragon Ball. Z had a shit ton of these power creep issues
At least It's not GT
"what db fan loved" just fight with good animation that's all.
But yeah without including all dialogue and weird moment it's a good "fan" animation
@@reynoldvondegurechaff how shallow of you bruh..
@@alexandergauthier3640 I don't need to develop on a "fan animation" that's just showing us fights, but I don't agree with the story. If he wanna show us only battle then we don't need story at all but he tried and that's a weird sh!t.
@@reynoldvondegurechaff yeah but why come here with spite? Maybe you actually really like the video, but don't fully realize it yet. 😎💁🏻♂️
Everyone talking about the animation, but where's the love for the voice actors? They did an AMAZING job! As did everyone else. Excellent work here all together
Literally everyone working on this brought their absolute A-game. The sound, music, voices and of course animation.
There's so much great work happening here.
Mid voices
People have been giving the voice actors credit…
Did you comb through all 57k+ comments before you made yours?
This actually sounded a lot like the English dub for the show.
@@nesssaysok2497 your so cool😍
THIS deserves to be its own series bro. The sheer passion and quality it's something you don't see quite often, and I really like the idea of an universe where Vegeta and Goku met earlier, but ALSO BROLY?. That's straight fire honestly.
If they will continue this, I would love to see Frieza in this AU.
2D animation of this high a quality is why we can't lose the artform. Every frame is absolutely a work of art in and of itself
Mmm, not sure how to say it but the animation looks pretty bad and really good at the same time. I guess anything moving looks 'bad' but flows really well. The still shots are ok but very line-y.
@@Berstich lets see u do something like this dude. Lol
@@Berstich no
This version of Vegeta is so cool!! He's not just an egomaniac or just proud. He actually cares for his people. Fight for Goku even know he didn't knew him just because he was from the same planet. What an amazing king.
hell yeah, i really hope we get to see more of this. i'm a vegeta fanboy and i'm absolutely stoked
Well to be fair vegetables always cared. As golu said he didnt have a choice or chance. to be anything other than what frieza wanted him to be. Look up the episode begets death or end of vegeta or something like that a very strong episode make sure it's the version with the bruce falconer sound track
Vegeta is desperate to try to hold and uphold a legacy ontop of the twisted things drilled into him
@@quarreneverett4767 I honestly feel like there's an entirely different backstory to the Saiyan's here. They still seem like a warrior culture but somehow, Vegeta seems, honorable, and honest. I absolutely love it
Easier to be a better person when your not raised by the freezer force or an evil saiyin race
Vegeta was always my favorite character of the show and it's clear he has a much more tactical mind. He realizes he can't just punch his way to victory so channeling all his energy into a bladed weapon was pure genius. Great stuff.
Am I fine? I like goku and vegeta. Their personalities are by far my favourite.
still to this day best fan film by far. none can touch this level of Broly and D.B love
“To every child who believed that they could train in 100 times Earth’s Gravity…”
As a grown man who is training harder than he ever was because of Dragon Ball Z (and a few other properties)…this was a very touching sentiment.
Felt that in every drop of my sayajinblood.
Real
My god. That's just... mesmerising.
Isn't it? I felt like a kid watching Dragonball Z for the first time all over again!
The Ultimate in What-If telling! A reality where, among other things, the Saiyans still exist.
This is based in another comment but, would you be interested in doing a what-if where Vegeta goes back in time after dying in the majin Buu saga ?
I'd love to see more Journey to the west inspiration in modern DB. It's been lacking ever since early DB
Yo Masako, any chance we get some theory videos on where the story could go from here if they decide to continue? Would love to hear your what if thoughts
I just noticed that the clouds at 6:13 light up in the shape of the Chinese character for sky/heaven (天). The subtle details like that make this animation all the better, it really shows how much the animators were obsessed with making this the absolute best it could be.
Wow, your eyes are superhuman
Nice detail, especially since later when Goku transforms the subtitles says “The savior from heaven, Son Goku”.
I thought it was also an Akuma reference from street fighter because when we does his taunt, that Kanji appears over him.
I personally thought it looked like the Japanese symbol for King: Enma (王), alluding to Goku's power.
The love for details is beyond awesome. My personal favorite detail is the fact goku's transformation is almost a frame by frame of his first super saiyan transformation.
"today a God dies, bones to dust, ashes to the wind!" This line goes hard
Just freaking epic that line!
Feel free to screenshot
Quoth the broccoli, "carrot"
Yeah, I kept thinking about that line.. It's cold..
It hits hard AF!! I thought it was "today a God Falls". I had that in my head all day!
RIP TORIYAMA (1955 - 2024) DBZ CHANGED AN ENTIRE GENERATION OF CHILDREN'S IMAGINATION.
Very true
Bloody incredible. This had me giggling and bouncing in my seat like I was 10 years old watching Goku go SSJ on Adult Swim again.. Naseer Pasha and The Stray Dogs, you've created a masterpiece. Here's to more!
💯 Same feels here
Same here
on adult swim? man.... I feel old now.
0:57 I love the detail that raditz is alive and well
Can we just talk about how insane Gokus transformation is? The flames kicking back and burning his face. Ugh soooo flippin good! The animation, the story, I would watch a whole freaking movie on this! Absolutely amazing!
would like to see a ssj4 goku with similar aesthetics but I know for copy right reasons probably won't happen.
How about they make their own anime! Totally could sell.. All I see is 🔥🔥🔥
If we wait 10 years for a sequel, it’s worth it.
No it isn't. The average anime studio makes greater animation
@@paulduffy5288 This isnt an "average anime studio", its a handful of people doing a passion project
Totally agree. ✊🏾
@@paulduffy5288 the average anime studio is capable of greater animation but in practice they churn out loads of uninspired projects after overworking their underpaid staff to death
@@solstrana3168 Okay? Every anime studio is a group of people you 🤡 so what's ur point exactly.
For eg mappa bones ufotable all of objectively have far greater visual detail.
I love it when a project makes you feel like you're peeking into an alternate timeline where things went differently.
Yeah, I love this and what the implications are.
Holy moly this is by FAR the best anime fan movie ever. Breathtaking animation quality.
Its so well made that feels illegal to watch this for free on UA-cam. Hats off to the team man, they have done an amazing job
