Not really either way if she survives she probably just blew up a 3 billion dollar ship with no left over evidence of a extraterrestrial on board she’s cooked either way
But if you think about the positive side, she at least managed to destroy the Xenomorph and those Ovomorphs in the ship. If another ship arrives and aboard they ship the risk of them carrying the alien with them back to them station or home is high. @coxynourmos0708
The alien makes its first debut in anime form, the total omission of music and original sound effects for the scuffling and vibrations/snarls makes this one of the most believable and immersive version of the alien ever, the animation was unique, 80’s aesthetic, yet the cgi, and highly detailed environments felt more like live action choreography than an anime, it fel like a 3D world, not a 2D one.

This feels like a classic 1980's anime, I remember downloading these types of anime in the early 2000's as a teenager I was obsessed with this type of art style and the genuine interest people had about space travel in the 80's and 90's

I have to wholeheartedly agree. The creative mind behind this needs a budget and the support of a team of helpers. Pure Awesomesauce here. This FELT like a legit entry in the Xenoverse.
Love how this gives a unique spin on the original Alien movie. There isn't an apparent villain aboard, like an Android, who sold the crew out as test subjects for the xenomorph. I expected the AI to be behind it, that it was hiding something from her when it recited the cargo log for example, but when it complied with self-destruct, I realised it really just had no idea, and it must have been some third party that screwed these people over. It avoids openly naming a villain, which I think benefits this greatly.
@@rjaysnewgroove9908 1st alien movie they are curious/stupid which brings the alien aboard the ship which turns the ai evil because it has secret motives to do in case of an event.
@rjaysnewgroove9908 every movie has a villain. In the first one it seems like dumb luck that they encountered it, but the twist is that one of the crew members was actually an android sent by the company to bring back the alien even if it meant killing the crew. The overarching enemy for the series is the weyland-yutani company. They keep sending poor hapless fools to die to bring back the aliens so they can experiment with them and "evolve humanity".
Came back to admire this a second time. I love the detail of the face hugger scurrying around behind the xenomorph at 12:08. It suggests the entire ship is infested at this point. I love the slow movements of the alien, its representative of the first film.
Hehe, I kinda begged him to add that random scurry in so Ashlin's decision making felt more justified. Honored you watched it a second time! - Claudia/Maki
@@ProducerMaki I didn't even notice that! I was worried that there was going to be some dissatisfying ending in which she killed the alien but then it's implied that she gets face-hugged off screen shortly after the movie cuts away.
@@ProducerMaki It's a great touch! And in some ways it does feel like her decision is arrived at quickly; but then in retrospect I was thinking that, as viewers, we don't always put ourselves in the characters position honestly. If your crewmates are all dead and you've already been surprised by the thing several times, I think *most* people would actually err on the side of getting the hell out of there and just setting fire to everything, rather than risk trying to salvage company property 😄
while "screw the ship" is a generally a good idea to stop the aliens from multiplying it's also what's (implied) to have killed her. the driller has significantly lower o2 reserves, no source of food or water and a weaker transmitter. if she just locked the alien back inside, told the AI to send a long range distress signal, waited for rescue THEN told the ship to self destruct she prolly would've lived.
@@anolive7535 no, she still would've had only 32 hours of oxygen in that driller, while any other ship would need about a week to get there... maybe if she manages to tell AI to close all doors and vents and get somewhere inside that ship, to plunder some oxygen supplies and any other supplies like food and water, she might have a chance. But that would involve getting back on that big ship, and probably would involve some masterful Alien Isolation Skills to aquire whatever equipment she might need there
Six. Years. One really has to love what they're working with to stick with it for that long. I find this much better than anything that came after the first two films. Gorgeous visuals. I liked how hard that critter was for her to get rid of. Here's to hoping somebody came by to pick up Ashlin up a few hours after the party.
I love the detail of there being no sound when Ashlin and the Xenomorph are out in the space. It's stuff like this that really makes the whole thing more immersive and I love it.
Love how at about 5:41-5:50, you can see the outline of the "invisible" looking xenomorph in the background as Ashlin runs into the hallway and closes the door
Ashley stood up for herself against insurmountable odds. This short film captures perfectly the the flavour of the 1979 movie, and 80s anime inspiration is apparent. With only 34 hours of oxygen left, will she be rescued? That's left open to the viewer. Mr. Johnson, thank you so much for posting this! 👩🏻🚀
not likely, no faster than light travel in the Alien Universe... even if someone entered the system at that moment, it'd likely take them days if not weeks to reach her.
Honestly the feeling of space is well captured here, the lack of music actually enhances the emptiness of space. In reality all you’d hear is your breath, your thoughts and ship noises. I wish there was a mini series of independent stories in the Alien Universe
Small mistake I noticed: at 8:45 the cargo hall gets depressurized. And the alien then continues into an air shaft that leads to the control room. Shouldn't the control room then also be depressurized?
@@Chris.in.taiwan also thought, but... it does not matter in the end - she depressurized everything she could and she'd keep it until the Alien gone. Besides, even if the vents is sectioned, the Alien could brake the inner doors inside the vents. Maybe after he did this and escaped some sort of alarm-doors closed behind him. Venting system should be reinforced by a secondary door in case of malfunction. Or maybe the animator just forgot about that XD But I doubt that - Paul pays great attention to details.

I think its more inspired on 80s anime. That was the golden age of that type of anime (Macross, Robotech, Voltron, Space Adventure Cobra, Gundam and a very long etc.) This channel even posted a video on how to do this type of 80s inspired animation. Not saying that there isn't any 90s influence there, tho.
@@Jedzelex Overall it's more 80's, but the character designs might lean more 90's with the larger eyes and pointed noses. They remind me of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's later work like Ninja Scroll. Although tbh there's not a huge difference between 80's and 90's anime aesthetic, lol.
I can tell it's 3D from some of the motion early on... but MAN is the animation great, even with the flaws. If you get a job as animation director in an Alien series, we'll know we are in a good timeline. The only negatives I can say are that the writing is a bit iffy (but your job is animator, so it's a non issue), and the rotoscoping walk was a bit overused in a couple of scenes (and maybe it's a taste issue from my part). But for the rest, it was an inspiring project, the Alien felt perfect both in design, movement and behaviour. The part where he fight back again being ejected was an intestine reversal from the standard procedure of the franchise. Hope to see you on the big, medium, or small screen. Give this man a budget and a team!
The scene of the Xenomorph simply breathing is actually terrifying. Coupled with the slow pan of the camera focused on the Xenomorph's body after it's sudden appearance, the pale skin look on Ashlin's reaction as though the blood dried up in her face. Perfection... Ridley Scott would be proud

One of the implications is that Conrad caused this to happen, and was going to autopilot back with a cargo of Xenomorphs to a research station... or to a place the company that built him wanted to destroy.
In the alien universe they are basically doing this to freelance ships to go under the radar from government speculation because then weyland yutani can't be blamed as it looks like a freelancer got too careless and well in space it's so vast anything can happen.

The attention to detail, the retro style, no jump scares, well written script and great voice acting... Everything about this movie is perfect. You are a treasure to the animation industry 🙏.
Peak absolute peak, the audio design is out if this world, the way the xenomorph moves creeps me tf out, these guys managed to capture what makes alien perfectly in 20 minutes, also using the Jupiter recording for the credits is gold it genuinely surprises me how little it’s used considering how freaky it sounds
Somehow, you managed to make the silence and slowness of the Xenomorph far more imposing than any roaring, sprinting monster could be. Like it needed only a bare minimum of effort to hunt and kill. It was patient and deliberate in a way no mere animal would be.
The whole thing is amazing. But I just want to point out how awesome it is that not only there is no sound during the scene with Ashlin in vacuum, other than her own breathing and subtle vibrations you would hear in such an environment. Not only is it a nice attention to detail, but shows that you can absolutely use such an environment to add suspense and unease to the viewer by the very lack of sound. Chef's kiss, excellent work sir, just mind-blowingly good.
Wow. The love and care put into every detail to make this feel like a genuine extension of the Alien and Aliens legacy is apparent in every single frame. This effort puts so much of the franchise to shame.
I'm admittedly not as much into Alien as others are (although I have watched the first two films…as well as Prometheus and Covenant but we do not talk about either of those), but the way this has been put together is truly phenomenal and, perhaps unsurprisingly, surpasses most official media this franchise has gotten in the last 30+ years. Well done!! And of course, very happy I was able to support this in some small way.

There’s villians in Alien movies? I always just thought the space ship crew was too dumb or the Xenomorphs were too smart and somehow got on the ship.

I like how she's immediately just like, "screw the ship"
Hell yes screw the ship! Wherever there are Xenomorphs, you immediately enter "nuke it from orbit" territory.

while "screw the ship" is a generally a good idea to stop the aliens from multiplying it's also what's (implied) to have killed her. the driller has significantly lower o2 reserves, no source of food or water and a weaker transmitter.
if she just locked the alien back inside, told the AI to send a long range distress signal, waited for rescue THEN told the ship to self destruct she prolly would've lived.
ACTUALLY SMART PLAY
@@anolive7535 no, she still would've had only 32 hours of oxygen in that driller, while any other ship would need about a week to get there...
maybe if she manages to tell AI to close all doors and vents and get somewhere inside that ship, to plunder some oxygen supplies and any other supplies like food and water, she might have a chance.
But that would involve getting back on that big ship, and probably would involve some masterful Alien Isolation Skills to aquire whatever equipment she might need there

This is why you have internal security. Not being notified when you have contaminants on the ship is a really big deal.
One of the implications is that Conrad caused this to happen, and was going to autopilot back with a cargo of Xenomorphs to a research station... or to a place the company that built him wanted to destroy.
Doesn’t really matter when the ships AI is programmed to put the Alien above the crew
In the alien universe they are basically doing this to freelance ships to go under the radar from government speculation because then weyland yutani can't be blamed as it looks like a freelancer got too careless and well in space it's so vast anything can happen.

The lighting and use of colour are beautiful!
Alien3 is underrated.
@@metimoteo nah alien 3 sucks
Amazing work! I love that the date is April 26th (426). Clever Easter egg. I appreciate everything you’ve done here!
Saw the original in 1979 when I was 11.This is the best Alien story I've seen since. I'm totally serious. Right down to the Joseph Conrad reference. Amazed.
As someone who recently seen all Alien movies back to back I can say that you notice the quality of the films going down after the third one. But this is pure gold.
I got the AI is called Conrad due to the Polish-British writer, but is "Thanatos" a name related to any of his novels?
@@gonzaloNMF "Thanatos" is the Greek personification of Death, specifically he was the son of Nyx, the goddess of night, and the brother of Hypnos, the god of sleep. He appeared to humans to carry them off to the underworld when the time allotted to them by the Fates had expired. A relatively minor god in the Grecian mythos, he is not to be confused with Hades the god of the Underworld and brother to Zeus.
@@rexharrison6827 Yes, I already knew that. But how is it related to Joseph Conrad's work?
Pure gold... You only needed the face hugger at the beginning to have gotten into the vehicle with it and it would be pure alien terror.
But pure gold animation 🗿🙌
Incredible work as always, Paul and Maki. Glad to see my name in the credits too. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
