Coming back to this film years later and it still hits just as hard. The talent of the creators has stood the test of time. What a beautiful way to tell this story.
That actor who played Vegeta... is almost like it was meant to be played by him. That's some brilliant casting seriously. It felt... so real.

Everytime I watch this," and it's a lot." It's like the first time. You can clearly see the love and respect they have for this iconic group of characters. I'm 52, and have been a fan of DragonBall from the very beginning. Hats off to you guys! There's major studios that spend millions of dollars for films that can't touch this level of storytelling and world building. And the love comes through in every scene! Bravo!

+Jacob Jackson I would have to disagree. I've always known cell to be ruthless while at the same time jovial. He loves to fight and kill people just as much as he loves to talk about doing so. He's a monologue kind of guy/creature. And with Freiza's cells being in his body he takes on his traits of just loving to see the look of terror on peoples faces. But, I didn't make this short so whatever.

+Jacob Jackson I think the only reason I would like him to actualy have some form of dialogue is literally for the character arch throughout where cell wants to find a purpose beyond "perfection" that one scene in the anime especialy where he explains he never knew quite were to go forward after he achieved perfection until he absorbed goku and relised "I AM THE UNIVERSE'S END" I thought that line especialy in the anime was amazing, but this is good just for the sake of having a more hateble villain on the big screen, yes

That moment you realised it was Vegeta talking the whole time to trunks on the tape, and then seeing him give trunks the tape right on his way to fight Cell... alone, his freinds all gone, his best enemy, ally, freind the one that could have stopped this died a normal man of a desease. so Vegeta knows what will happen, hes not going to stop Final Cell, hes going to stall his as much as he can until his very last breath, to give his family a chance to escape and hide. what a badass!!!

Francisco Asef Super Saiyan looked garbage too. Light of Hope nailed Super Saiyan. Considering the fights were entirely CGI, they should have atleast got that right.

Sure the effects in this weren't great, but since when did the effects in a film matter more than the story? You worry to much about effects over story and you get the Star Wars prequels.
vica vox Light of Hope is not a scene-for-scene rehash... it's based off the History of Trunks, but is shot and choreographed completely differently.
Personally, I think Light of Hope was better because it had entirely practical effects, the actors looked the part, and it followed the source material (with it's own creative aspects). I'm all for creative interpretations and I think this was great, but the whole dark, gritty take and CG effects just didn't cut it for me. Stray too far from the source material and you end up with DB Evolution.
I love this so much, you made Cell actually terrifying while also catching some of the key aspects of his character and design, and you could feel Trunk's pain and struggle throughout the whole film as well as the battle with Cell, bravo guys, you achieved something Hollywood couldn't which is impressive beyond measure, I hope to see a sequel of this amazing film one day
ssj Kyto what are you talking about this is not dbz at all they got so many details wrong trunks never went ssj when Bulma crashed because in the manga and anime she never crashed. And trunks travels to the past to tell people about cell which is why his name is (future trunks). Also I don't know why the showed us how out of shape he was in the time chamber with that untucked tank top they still got shit wrong like how vegeta was in the time chamber with trunks and not by himself. Then Goku and Gohan went in after or the other way around but they still got those detail wrong
DVL you realise this isnt based on the manga/show its inspired by it. they took the characters and the situation put a twist on our own expectations by saying that cell took over the future timeline. people do this all the time with DBZ and call it their own storyline (like if trunks went to far back to when vegeta first arrives on earth)
Trunks’ sobbing and complete emotional death. Then he let’s go and the rage his father could never feel is unleashed. This short film is a masterclass on how this S Tier series needs to be told.

This is a lot more emotional than what i remember... Human expressions sure can change one's perspective. Really well made...
In the beginning we see the energy windmill off, no longer providing energy to the world... it’s dead. In the flash back to Vegeta giving trunks the tape, when vageta faces forward we see the windmills on and rotating as cell hasn’t destroyed the world yet... such great use of visual metaphors.

Can you imagine being Trunks, knowing everyone is dead, no one left you can rely on and having Cell hunting you at every moment…. Knowing if you fail it’s all over… then being able to travel back and the relief to know your among those who can change the outcome if only they are warned …. That’s a lot to shoulder
that scene in the end with Vegeta, Bulma and Trunks was just perfect, nothing more to say. PERFECT.
A big budget is not enough to make a good DBZ adaptation, it takes someone who knows the franchise deeply and truly 'gets it'. Major thumbs up. This is, by a long shot, the best we have so far.

Mostly because it was created/directed by a guy who didn’t give af about the fans, hadn’t even watched a single episode of DB/DBZ, and only wanted to make the movie for the money. I do appreciate that he even came out and sincerely apologized for the movie

Really incredible stuff, the drama, the pathos, the grim tone of it all. And even so, one still has hope in the end. The effects were pretty damn good for what this was and your Cell is a true monster, inhuman and remorseless, not some thrill seeking murderer. Lots of great work with the sound design and music as well. This is everything Dragonball Evolution could have been and chose not to be.
I saw it again yesterday with my little bro, I said that I wanted to show him one of the best productions that fans has created of dragon ball, he amazed just like me when I saw this beauty the first time. Such a good performance, so perfect

Six years after this was uploaded and this gets me hyped. Proves that fans who truly cared about DBZ did it WAY better than Hollywood.
Honestly Akira Toriyama did too good a job with this manga. Beyond the story and graphic, there is a feel to DB that has made us hooked. This feel will be very difficult to capture in a live movie
