Most that comments here dont have ev or undestands it. I live in Norway and have used ev for 7 years now. We are far ahead of other countries implementing evs. I never want to go back. And now i am buying a new ev. And its an Nio EL7 with the battery swap i will never be afraid of having an outdated battery like my old mercedes ev. Also if i suddenly need a bigger battery for a trip i can upgrade to a bigger battery that month, thats great. Bur for every day use the standard 75kWh battery is more than enough and i charge at home or st work 99% of the time, i never go to any stations. But knowing that i soon can upgrade to a 150kWh battery if needed for a short periode is great, it means bigger flexibility.
While I like the idea of not owning the battery for degradation and cost liability reasons. It seems that this will have to be a subscription service for the life of the vehicle. Which is nice but it's going to negate some of your gas savings. And while it seems like a fantastic solution now at the rate charging/battery improvements are being made..... I don't know how necessary it will be outside of commercial applications in a couple of years.
It's more expensive to buy discounted car + rent the battery to replace it when it's worn out than buying full price car + a battery replacement and service to mount it with current prices in Europe.

Naturally, anyone that owns an EV knows you don't need a battery swap unless you are going on a long trip. I use a 12A 120V wall outlet charge overnight and I have never had a problem.
I think this tech makes great sense for countries like Ethiopia who are driving EV adoption, but have poor grid service. Having centralized swap stations where quick refills are avail and where the power is vetted for the replenishment solves the prob. Thank for the video. I enjoyed watching. Maybe a battery tool company like Ryobi should develop a car. This technology has been used in tools for decades. Ryobi has new riding lawnmowers that run on 3-40 volt batteries. I have a 20" chainsaw and weedeater that have 80v batteries. These tools are awesome. Much better than the best gas-powered tools. Neither tools bog down at all. If instead of swapping out one battery with an expensive machine you could swap 4 to whatever-80v batteries on the road without the expensive swap station. The batteries can be charged quickly on a 120v powered charger. These batteries have their own cooling fans built in. The brand is MasterForce sold by Menards, but other companies have their own 80v tools. My guess is that they are all made in the same factory in China but none are interchangeable. I also realize for many of you weenies this task of changing out 80v batteries would be impossible just as handling a tool with an 80v battery, but it's a sinch for this 74-year-old man. When a storm blew down 2 large trees on my property this summer I had them cut up and removed in no time by myself.
Eventually, all major parts of an EV will be standardized. An EV will be like a PC where you can pull out parts and put in different parts that adhere to industry standards. For battery swapping to become standard, you will need to standardize the battery and parts of the chassis, it will be natural to further standardize things like motors, electronics for the motor controller/charging circuit etc... You might buy the chassis and interior from GM/Tesla/etc... and got the other parts from another company, this will bring competition into the individual components of an EV rather than an entire EV. It will exactly be like in PC, each individual component of a PC has its own universe of competitors. For CPU it is AMD vs Intel, GPU it is Intel vs AMD vs Nvidia, RAM and storage, PSU, Case, etc.. all have its own universe of competitors. With competition on each major component the sum of the components leads to a lower priced PC, it should work for EVs too.
Definitely a trend, for all variety of electric vehicles. After China, eventually others will join up. Simply: the benefits are greater than costs. Elon's idea to recharge big car, esp. big suv or semi truck only by cable, and unswapable battery pack is wrong choice.
