Loved that closing shot of the two of you on the bikes. That's what makes single sculling so awesome / unique. You don't have teammates, so your competitors are your teammates.
A beautiful, brave race, shouting at my computer screen in Yorkshire, in stewards to see the next chapter in the story Friday. Good luck Cameron Buchan, great stuff!
Awesome result there, watched it live, you gave it 120% in those last 500m. Really had me worried when you started your big push, thought you were going to crash and burn, but nope you WON, BRAVO mate.
So who won?!?! The shot of the guy at 2:54 was great. What a character! Cam, I've noticed that you don't appear to bring your shins to right angles with the water. Not sure if that's a trick of the camera angle or actually what you're doing. Sadly it's been some years since I was in a boat, but I'm wondering if the ideal technique has changed since I was rowing. I was always taught to bring the shins to right angles to get the most optimal stroke length.
As I said in the video, I won by a small margin. The drivers are pretty cool! Perhaps a part of the camera angle but shins vertical doesn't necessarily mean better or worse. I'm concerned with length of the stroke. I'm tall so in theory I don't have to slide as far as someone shorter
That was one exciting race. Halfway the race I thought well, that's a long way off, and then you started getting closer and closer and eventually winning by 1ft. Actually yelled at my screen c'mon Cam! Very exciting. Next race against Canadian Trevor Jones, I see.. Good luck!
Keep going man. I stopped rowing after my University academics were finished. Felt really sad. You are truly an inspiration. Hope you climb the ladder and enjoy rowing.
Buchanan, the basketballing Scot ;-) Great race, Cam! I keep my thumbs pressed for the next races. Make sure they spell your name right on the trophy...
Cam Yam! Great smooth start, consistent middle section with small jumps to maintain contact, and an all-out finish leaving nothing in the tank, all great work for the win! ;)
Awesome to be able to see the whole race and hear your comments. Watched the race feed quite a few times now, just an amazing and inspirational race. Tomorrow I think you should again, just row your best race, it works! LETS GO!
Great race, watched it live on Henley’s UA-cam feed, fantastic push at the end, loved the fist pump after crossing the line! All the best for tomorrow against Trevor, hope you have a good one 👍
Congratulations Cameron, great race and great video footage. Love how you kept your calm and rowed your race and pulled it off. Looking forward to more rowing successes.
Congratulations Cam, that was an amazing race. You're looking stronger than ever in the single (A true insperation) and I can't wait to see what the future has in-store for you.
Brilliant win Cam, love the never say die attitude. Amazing mental fortitude - will stand to you in future races and the opposition will know that you won't be giving up when the going gets tough. Best of luck! 💪💪
I already commented on your last video after watching this live, what an absolute drama of a race, the absolute best Cam, well done, had my heart in my mouth for the last 250. Look forward to seeing your next one, rest up 👌💪
congratulations on a great race and thank you for sharing the details. Kind of confused, did not see any diamond races on day three? When do you race next?
Hey cam! I love the content, it’s really helped me on my rowing journey. Just curious, what made you pace this so different than say a 2k on the erg? Is it the training you’ve been doing? The boat class? Thanks so much for your time cam I really appreciate it!!
I wouldn't say I paced it at all differently to what I do on the erg. Like I said in the video there was a big focus on making the start smooth and clean and perhaps going a bit too far 😂 on a 2k traditionally my first and second 500 are the slowest.
Great race, Cam! Big congrats from Australia. Your sculling has improved so much! Still curious about the move from Yambo to Empacher? Maybe you could fill us in after Henley? Best of luck for the upcoming rounds.
Awesome row. Best race of the day and good example of how all the hard work pays off at the end of the race. Technically Matt looked cleaner during the race but it goes to show, its what you cn put on the end of the handle(s) that really matters.
Awesome race! Can you see your pace while you’re racing? I wonder if you aim to hit a pace throughout the race, or if it’s all by feel. I used to do time trial bike races and it was both, watch watts but also pushing if you feel right at certain parts of the course.
You can watch pace but I don't. When on the water it is so variable it can sometimes be a distraction. With watts in cycling it can be pretty consistent like the rowing machine. Speed on the water is rarely consistent without perfect conditions and on completely still water
Cam few questions... How far was the race? What type of race was it? Who won? Love your videos but sometimes I feel like you don't really explain much Cheers
Watched live, and stood up at my desk and found myself punching the air... the rest of the office wasn't sure what was happening 🤣. What a race. Come on Cam. Onto the next one.
@@CameronBuchan wow, i would of thought they would have a stopwatch /stop clock set up at the end, like a board at a track meet showing the times of the runners, showing the times at the different 500s, and make some ad money from say rolex, tag heuer, something like that.... say the official watch of henley royal regatta or which ever big regatta it happened to be... JMHO.....LOLOLOLOL
@@CameronBuchan question.do they allow you to put anything on the bottom of the boat to cut down on the friction of the water to the hull of the boat, in swimming some swimmers use PONDS COLD CREAM to rub on themselves to cut down on the friction of the body to the water, the cold cream really sticks to the body and wont wash off so you stay nice and slick, ever thought of doin something like that to the hull of the rower???
Hook the handles rather than grip the handles except when feathering/squaring and the only just enough to do the job and no more. It will take time to learn.

It is pretty awesome. You can relate to eachother strongly
Such as splendid video. Excellent race. Congratulations
Congrats on the Win Cam. Amazing race and phenomenal push at the end. It is amazing just how quickly the lead can change in a single.
A beautiful, brave race, shouting at my computer screen in Yorkshire, in stewards to see the next chapter in the story Friday. Good luck Cameron Buchan, great stuff!
Outstanding Cam - could really see the effort etched on your face. You held your form and your nerve - right on your line. Well done Yammer!!!!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Congratulations Cam! Looking forward to the next race! New goal, become the new kingslayer with your next three races!
I was soo disappointed i missed this live, though i suppose it was to be on the water. Fantastic race, and amazing sprint at the end!

Hey cam, great race. How do you manage pre race nerves and stress the day before and on the start line?
They are there, can't do anything about them. All I have to do is focus on rowing well. Nerves don't effect that
Amazing race. I knew early on you were going to nail it. If only Betfred was offering odds, I would be quids-in.

Amazing race. One of the most exciting of #HHR23. Way to take him at the end and push him to his limits!

Nice!
