I do 8 man sweep (4 seat, let’s go port!) and I can only imagine this nightmare. Good on you guys for figuring it out and getting out there. Get back to training and crush this shit next year!
it was fun to follow it, you sound more determined now when the races are finished, than when you started recording. This seems to me like the best reward you could possible get. What doesn't kill you, makes you quicker! Thanks for sharing, and enjoy the journey!
Henley truly is an amazing experience, It was my first ear racing this year too. We got very lucky with the draw and drew a crew we were very confident in beating, having beaten them twice that year already (Both at Nat Schools and Wallingford Regatta). This paid great dividends as we did indeed end up winning on the Wednesday only to unfortunately be knocked out on the Thursday. Actually getting to race at Henley Royal Regatta in no way shape or form compares to simply just going to watch. It is my absolute most favourite regatta of all time as no two races are EVER the same. We too will be continuing our training and hope to do better next year. It'd be sick to see you guys there next year too, I sure will be rooting for you!
Probably my favourite blog of yours thus far Pat, now a subscriber. From the moment the closing music kicks in (14:22) its a great finale sequence. Particularly that very brief shot at 15:06 with the IV- in full flow. Wish UA-cam and gopro's were around in my day to capture my Henley journey.
Great story. You won't ever forget the craziness of that day! Had a similar experience at HRR a long time ago, after the three man in our eight came off his motorbike and broke his arm two days before the regatta.
Pat Hanratty yes, we did. After much running around, we persuaded a guy who had just qualified for the Diamonds to row with us. Who may or may not have been totally qualified to do so... Black Sheep RC B, 2001. That followed on from a crazy Qualifiers, where we didn’t have a boat until 2 hours before race time and finally hired a clapped out shell from Edinburgh Uni women!
BEULLER!!! Nice touch :-)What an epic story and beautifully captured, I actually fist-pumped when you said you and George are committing to a full year AND vlogging it - if you qualify for Henley next year, I'll be there screaming at you from Steward's!
wow. Good luck on your training for next years Henley! My boat is also trying to make it to Henley next year and we start our training in September too. Amazing video!
Such an awesome account of your progress. It will be great to see what happens over the next year. If you pop in to TRC when in London we'll be happy to help out
To be fair, that is UTRC stretch of river so they know it well. You smashed it, it just wasn't the result you wanted. Would you be looking at the Wyfold again? Good luck, and get those miles in!
How tall are you guys- I know george is a bit taller but I’m a really small rower, Harry looked a bit smaller compared to the rest of you so I wanted to know. Love the blogs by the way x
