it is SO nice to listen to someone who's knowledgeable but doesn't take himself too seriously.
He and John Bartholomew are great
"Pros Losing Really Quickly | Play Like a Pro"
So I must lose really quickly. Noted!
Lovuschka I can lose in way fewer than 12 moves. I'm clearly better than GM's
I mean if you're going to lose you should strive for maximum efficiency
@@belowmars Wait, who missed the joke?

Though the other pros wins....
I really do like eric, hes so calm and just seems like an awesome dude
Same man
Soo true
He seems like a chill guy
His voice soothes my soul. LOL
He's like that classmate that always "keeps everyone in peace"
They must have read Ben Finegold's book "Lose Like a Grandmaster"

Ben is the best teacher and chess comedian
Read that one. Reading the sequel: cry like a grandmaster.
I came here to make that comment
@@M1guel7Dias also the loudest chess elitist, but I digress.
This is one of few persons in the entire UA-cam talking in a normal tone and pace. It is really refreshing compared to all the half hysterically half screaming majority.
lol dude, 15sec into the video i paused, cant stand his face
There's quite a lot of calm yet decently popular UA-camrs - stay away from the trending tab.
I have the video on 1.5 speed
ChessNetwork is also cool. If you’re branching from chess, CGP Grey has a very similar voice to this guy.

...okay, don't look at it then.
Honestly! Eric seems like such a chill person! Hes so insightful and his temperament makes him perfect for teaching the young and the elder! Hes got so much to teach and yet hes not obnoxious in the slightest!
29:15 The smaller children here should close their eyes.
He’s a great teacher! I watched 46 minutes straight
You missed the best 6 seconds in the video
Superb video - thank you for lucid explanations.
@4:36.... NEVER PLAY F6!!! RAWR!!!

Hi Eric. I’ve been following your vids for a while. Just wanted to let you know I appreciate them
Hi Eric, I've watched several of your instructional Videos & those Kids are very lucky to have you. I had been watching a GM that is also coaching Kids but his Personal Demeanor is Arrogant & Insulting. I Had Subed to your Ch. and just wanted to Thank You again for doing such an excellent job and for your pleasant and thus helpful Demeanor in addition to your awesome style. Warm Regards from Oregon, ... Mike.
In Eric's game against Bellin, the computer finds an interesting piece sacrifice as a defense. After 1. e5 dxe5 (instead of cxd4) 2. Qf3 Nc6! 3. Qxc6+ Bd7 wins a tempo and after 4. Qf3 cxd4. You get two pawns, one of them a protected passer on d4, white on the other hand is lacking space. Black has to prove something, but is far from lost.
I did not understand why at 11:41 after 1. e5 dxe5 (instead of cxd4) 2. Qf3 e4 (hope I've understood the notation there). If white's knight takes it, then could black's bishop not just go to b7? I assume that is silly but not clear why.
@@glennspigel6345 white would play Nxf6+ and then pick up the bishop
@@Lunaire.- Thank you :)
Eric and Ben are the Yin Yang of my chess experience, they are extremely different but I need both of them
Beautiful compilation
The bishop blunder was hilarious! Great video!
Very nice explanation!
Watching these makes me love Tal even more. The guy can sacrifice his queen and win. But then again his sacs come with an attacking plan and initiative rather than a pure blunder.
I was today years old when I realized the difference between I’m Eric Rosen as in I AM, and IM EricRosen as in International Master...
He asks “Have you heard of Larry Christiansen” and some of them say “No”... I am getting old.
Another great master class! Thank you St Louis Chess Club!
Can someone please let me know what kind of software they are using for this lectures.
plz bring back chess openigs explained

Arjun is gonna be a gm at some time
Congrats on successfully predicting the future.
@@kruksog did he actually become a gm. What's his full name?
@@Amoeba_Podre I would have to rewatch to be sure, but I'm fairly sure this comment was about Arjun Erigaisi.
@@kruksog the time-line doesn't match up, according to Wikipedia he was already a grandmaster at the time of this lecture. Why would he be watching it then?
@@Amoeba_Podre Arjun Kalyan then, gotta be. Made GM in 2021.
at 11:41 for some reason the engine says white goes from a +1.2 advantage to 0.2 after e5 is played, and after dxe5 and qf3 kbc6 says its overall equal? why is this
I saw the study on lichess so I recognized every game that he showed haha
I may be wrong but at the last game, playing Bg3 earlier was bad not because Ke2 but because Nd4, which is not good one move later after c4
Rosen is such a great teacher
9:42 I literally play this game in 60% of my games.... I call it the, "Double-Reverse Slavic Defense."
Saw Bb5 with the last position and confident in it but wasn’t sure how to deal with c4.
I can't stop watching his nostrils open up every time he talks.
Now I can't unsee it.
Noticed it too. Crooked nose as well 🙃
Why’d u have to point this out, can’t unsee
omg i cant focus on the game now
This is a chess lecture, you should upload your own videos
thank you eric rosen!.. is good lecture.. but we are missed GM Akobian..!!
Last game. Eric did not say the reason why Bg3 doesn't work. White simply plays Nd4. Position equal. Thus, Bb5 played to take away d4 square for the knight by forcing c4
Ohhhhh thank you
Thank you. Another question, why is Qf4 better than Qg5?
Thanks! I had this question
@@jeeum A bit late but... it’s because Qf4 prevents Bg3 (the queen will just take and defend f2) and Bg1 will allow the knight to take it (and then the queen will be defending f2 again).
All games can be viewed from this study! lichess.org/study/8Quz711p
New goal: checkmate, or get checkmated in less than 12 moves, either is good.
Im really good at one of those
In the final game, Eric wasn’t able to distinguish the difference between playing Bg3 directly from Bb5. Note that Ba4 was accessible in both scenario. He also miss to point out the resource Be3 when black finally played Bg3 where Nxe3 check runs into Ke2 and Ne3/Bg3 is hanging. Probably still winning for black, but it is always important to dissect critical lines. Anyway, still cool commentaries by IM eric.
Hey so on 44:18, what if white Queen takes Knight on g4, then like Eric said, black Bishop to b5, but then white Knight to f1 defending the bishop on d3?
RTG 19045 44:18 is black to move, if you mean Qxg4 after Bb5 then Bxd3# wins for black
After Queen A8 at 13:32, why isn't Black's most obvious move Bishop B7? Sure, losing both a rook and a bishop for a queen isn't optimal, but at least it definitely gets the Queen without delay. Does it set back Black's tempo too much?
Edit: Never mind, Queen has A7, and from there there is no way to hold her anymore.
Black can force a trade of Queens instead, but I guess that's bad too because Black is already behind in pieces.
13:00 Is Nc6 - a knight sacrifice to save the rook - worth considering? After Qxc6+ Bd7 with tempo on the queen, there is really nothing else for the white queen to do as the rook is now defended by the black queen. I can't see anything terribly wrong with it, losing just a minor piece, black could still hope for some comeback. Any thoughts?
Losing a piece without any compensation against an IM equals game over. You'll also have a disgusting position that you won't enjoy playing. Hoping to comeback isn't really going to work. But I guess I would play a few more moves to see what I can do, and then resign probably. Immediately resigning is also fine here.
At 2:52 ...Qa5+, followed by Qxc5 saves the pawn, but only for teh moment... white c3 Black Qxc5 white Be3 black Qa5 white b4 and d5 pawn will fall...
"no one's invincible" says than who beat Magnus!!
Wesley So lol
@40:38 why can't the knight simply move to d4 to cut off the connection between the black queen and bishop? Is there something I don't see?
Bxd4 cxd4 qxd4 and blacks A rook is attacked and pretty much trapped.
Did Eric say insanity check? :D
In the second game why didn't you play queen to a4?
Man, the truth hurts.
all i want to do is to go for a beer with him
Intro song (at 0:16)?
At 41:00 d4 for black does not lose the bishop for free, just gives the pawn back. Probably much inferior to Nh6, but not a losing move.
It def is losing. Im not sure the line youre thinking, but under best moves it is
43:50 Be1 Kxe1 Qf2+ Kd1 Ba4+ Bc2 Bxc2# or am I missing something, the kid seemed to have a good recommendation
Kxe1 is not forced. Stockfish recommends Be3 Qxe3 Qxe3 to stop mate after Be1.
Eric Rosen kinda looks like Carl Sagan (Astronomer) when Carl was younger...
what if you retreat the bishop to e2 instead of e4
Meanwhile I can't even get past 1100
play puzzles on LiChess
At 26:12 does queen to E6 solve both problems? As queen pin the Bishop and defend it's own light Bishop as well?
That's what I thought too, however the response d5 might be hard to meet, as e6 is the only square the queen has to do both jobs
Qc6 instead
Trade queens instead of losing a piece
Sorry that doesnt work, Bb5 would result in a lost queen or mate, oh well
At 6:11, why not Be6 - Then Qxe6, Qxe6; Bxe6, fxg5 seems to leave Black with at least a semi-playable game.
Perhaps because the knight can still grab the pawn in the center. If black knight takes back, white rook takes and white is still up a piece.
In the last puzzle, I believe Be1, Kxe1, Qf2+, Kd1, Ba4+, Bc2, Bxc2# works
If Be1 I think white plays Nd4, and with both the bishop and knight hanging black looks to be losing.
Kxe1 is not forced.
Mr. Rosen , early in the last game featured , you state whites best piece is the white bishop, because all of his pawns are on dark squares. Can you please explain ? I'm relatively new to chess about 1300 . The way I think is , the white bishop can't defend any of those dark square pawns making it weak and you say it's the best piece. Please explain . Thank you 😊 sincerely Greg .
With the pawns on dark squares, the bishop is able to move across the board freely, if the pawns were on the same colored squares as the bishop then the bishop wouldn't have anywhere to go as the pawns are occupying the same squares the bishop can go to, thus making the bishop weak.
Jeru Balares . Thank you, I guess I've been doing this the wrong way . Maybe this will help me .
I love playing 1.c4 against people in 1400-1600 (I'm 1550ish) because people usually don't know how to respond, and then I get to play d4 at some point and get a superior QGD set up as opposed to playing 1.d4 first where they would most likely follow a typical mainline.
@Idally funny that's what I play as Black against English!
at 44:22 why not Bishop G3 immediately, since the idea of Ke2 can still be met with Qf2 and Ba4?
I believe without the threat of Bxd3+ white can block the queens with Kd4 and then black has 2 minor pieces under attack. I think
Or probably more like he said the King can wiggle free
Nd4 now cuts off the Queen completely and Black now loses Knight or Bishop and the game, if I am not mistaken
He didn't explain it right, but I think the point is to draw the pawn from c3 to c4, so there is no Nd4 after Bg3
Probably learned more from this video than any other chess tutorial
???
now i play like a gm
Everytime he says Ummmm you have to drink .. xD
I hate it when people resign. Play the damn thing out to mate. Quitters!
*The Other Eric Like That*
9:47 Any move except the best move is inferior to the best move
Nakamura is your dad you know what am talking about
Um counter intensifies
And now Nakamura lost to Magnus in the title match, great time to see him getting crushed so fast.
What title match?
One time I had a three and a half move game, no joke.
Zachary Cansdale I had someone play 1 move then resign because he had to go. In a tournament
lol
it is all cuz of bullet game .. if blitz or open might crash u
I beat now GM and blitz superstar Andrew Tang in a slow tournament game in 2012. He was rated 2200 and I was 1850. He didn't take me seriously until he dropped an exchange and then started slow thinking but I was able to convert it. I think in the same tournament I also beat 2300 former state champ Leonard Johnson because he was so disgusted he dropped a pawn in the opening he resigned on move 10. He dropped the pawn because I played Bf5 with a pawn on g6 and Rg8 to the open g-file after a trade there. He was so focused on my kingside potential attack he missed a simple double attack against a pawn hanging on his queenside. I had many good results against experts and masters back then just playing without any fear of their rating.

42:22 Can someone explain to me why nF6 was the only viable move?
no
There are lots of times when he's playing where he's talking about stocks, sports, food, and thanking subs and donations. Sometimes I even think that he's playing pinball, Sodoku or Minesweeper in the background.
Pag nilagay ko mga games ko sa youtube. Putang ina matuto kau ng husto
Nakamura should have played Bishop e6.
Queen takes d5 is a blunder because when black checks the king with the queen he wins the whites queen if white brings bishop to d2 , Black takes on f2 with check and wins the Queen and if white queen tries to go to d2 , black goes bishop to b4
you look like young Ronnie O'Sullivan.
A GM plays a little bit offbeat while a beginner totally blunders :)
I've got a puzzle from one of my games. there are two winning solutions
1. d4 d5 2. Nf3 Bg4 3. Bf4 Bxf3 4. gxf3 Nc6 5. Nd2 Nxd4 6. c4 dxc4 7. Nxc4 c5 8. e3 Ne6
on the first game, what if black threatened the queen right before resigning, 6:00
umm
Holy shit that guy looks just like the guy who took a video of me vs finegold about a week ago
32:18 why the French hate? :((
26:15 AKA "Truth hurts, yea".
I can lose way faster
10:20 True, except if you play duck chess
kinda sad eric didnt get the french joke
I was born on 2009 :D
Ahm
Why do they resign so quickly? Is there no hope?
Yes, the position is already lost.
In slow games, at the titled level, yes these games are completely over. For lower levels or faster time formats, you can still swindle your opponent.
Probably you’re a moron.
9:45 well every move is inferior to the best move...
So what. I can lose in 12 moves easy!
The first game, you lost the game as opposed to the opponent winning it, when he has only moves his pieces to their starting squares... moved each piece only once and 2 of their pawns twice
game mo yan!?
Chess is hard, The truth hurts, etc.- GM Ben Finegold.
