Ben: "Are you guys smarter at home??"
Me: *nods head*
Ben: "No you're not, don't nod your head, c'mon. Hold on hold on, I'm insulting the people at home"
LMAO
3 years and he can see me nodding in the future
Came here to say the same damn thing 😂
@@shcottam Damn, he got me too.
@@Larkstream these grandmasters...
If you can call them people
the dad jokes are on point. i love this guy
I didn't get the C4 joke until about the third time he said it
I just got it. I read the comment before as well and still missed it XD
I like 34:54 when his quantum joke run dies because he doesn't think the audience can follow XD
You play chess? PLAY ME!
get water because this material is so dry
I was laughing on his jokes and how he was throwing insults at the students. Then he turned towards the camera and insulted everyone watching the recording. That's savage.
0:48 give that cameraman an award!
LOL
lool
I was awaed :0
Ben Simon my man
After watching this I lost like 10 games straight
actiwe terrible XD
That means you're improving, I would assume.

"The so called Panov-Botvinnik attack, named after.... Mr. Attack.", "If you were German I would say you are nein nein nein". K even if I wasn't a kid I would participate in these lectures just for those.
named after mr attack
Hahaha, yeah, my favourite part.
Pure gold
Jack Dragos My favorite attacker
Once a kid answered the the "person name" gambit was named after mr Gambit. Now it became Ben's joke
?
I like Ben Finegold, he makes chess more interesting!
ben : which side you should castle?
kid : that way!
ben : you almost right..
LMAO
"Opposite coloured bishops -- draw agreed" lmao
Damn... I was nodding my head when he said "no, don't nod your head".
"Also not too much of a beginner... but he played like one!" Love Ben Finegold.
This guy's humor is my kind of thing.
Hahaha couldn't stop laughing when he introduced himself as Mike Kummer.
So that’s the guy in the suit. Why didn’t he show up at the lecture?
I love that the camera had to pan up when ben said "if you're going to insult people you need to start at the top"
This guy is too much fun.
A conspicuous edit immediately after the NSA was mentioned. Very suspicious.
Very.
i love his jokes, im crying literally...
27:38 I've been watching GM Finegold's lectures for years now, and it just dawned on me that C4 *is* explosive. Thank you inquisitive kid!
I'm on my second video with only understanding the basic rules of chess and I feel like I've learned so much and have had my mind blown with his moves so many times already.
When you say you understand the basic rules of chess, are you including rules like castling, promotion and en passant?
5:08 Ben Finegold breaks his own rule. Never play f6. I am shocked!
It's more shocking he didn't make a comment on it! One of the rare times he did that he said, "always play f6", and another time he said "never play f6, except when you're checkmating your opponent!".
This whole video had me cracking up, and the strategies were super fun to watch! Thanks for the upload!
Ben if you read this, I like your lectures. One thing I would love for you to do is ask the audience a bit more questions and give them some time to think about the problems themselves. Just ask for example what the audience thinks is the best move in a certain position and make them explain themselves. Perhaps do this with moves that you see that have a certain tactic behind them and require 3-4 steps of calculation. Anyway, great lecture!
Then he has a four hour lecture covering one game. They can go home and press pause on youtube
What an entertaining lecture. Thank you.
meet jonah hill's father everyone.
i love this guy,,,he makes topic interesting and not boring
Crazy man this Finegold !!! ...... but I really like his style 😁 ...... That’s what chess instructors and chess commentators should do ..... So the chess game become so fun to learn and watch
what a sense of humour! and also the Masterclass. well done
Bro the audience doesnt appreciate his clever humor
i can't get enough of this guy
hahaha i love the way he teach..not boring..
Buying this guy's book if he really has one out there. I've watched 2 40 min videos of his this morning, seems like time didn't even go by.
I love that kinda of roasting, it's not harmful or too offensive, yet entertaining
"In soviet Russia, chess teaches you" ahahahahahaha
Ben finegold is tthe coolest gm and the best teacher
28:31 "Let's see, I can't make that joke."
He was going to say something about not letting your opponent DP you.
I though it was a "losing a night" joke about a bender.
I get a kick out of your videos Mr. Finegold. Great stuff. Wish I could take lessons from you.
Me too
30:04 +1 for the excellent taste in music.
- 12 for being Ben Finegold.

This man makes so many awesome references. Teddy KGB! Rounders!
I've seen that shirt before! :) These kids will be 100 rating pts higher after this lecture.
***** that's very suspicious....
Solid!

Nick Gonda I couldn't believe it I was dying
Fantastic class Mr Finegold ¡¡¡ Really love it ¡¡¡ Send you a "Hi" from CHILE ¡¡¡ And I love the "You at home" call. Just fascinating ¡¡¡
loL
I'll be honest, as much as he's a bit scathing, I have to love Ben Finegold. He's funny and really covers fundamentals well! You won't make those mistakes again if Finegold humiliates you for it!
Thank you for the amazing videos, Ben makes all this both fun and educationnal (I simply wonder how much of his puns I would get at 12 ^^ )
I love how often Ben drops the "Ich don't think so" Bruno reference.
I like how GM Ben Finegold makes my realise i'm stupid . Good job ;))
Many jokes in his videos are the same, but he always nails it :D Love watching Ben
The truth hurts
Does anyone know why he deleted his YT channel, gofundme, blog, etc? I was looking forward to checking those out but apparently he deleted them. Sad day...
"...named after Mr. Attack."
Love the Alice in Chains reference.
“Cmon I’m making fun of the people at home” me 8 years later: 😂😂
Non-stop hilarity
These videos arr great
i appreciate the humor
This guy is awesome
and now he is a National Master!
Excellent and very instructive video, this great GM commentary and analysis also inspired me to write an article on my website for chess beginners regarding piece development strategies. I believe learning chess at the early stages will help a lot to become more successful in the later stages...
he would be one of those 'talks you from the table' poker players
I like Ben. He's got a great scence of humor
Question: 15:28, white is to move, I can go Qeen A4, forcing a Queen trade (or hoping for an opponent's mistake) and then Castle King side which gives me an advantage in development. True, or am I missing something?
He could just move his Bishop back. Or am I missing something now?
Yeah, no, after Qa4 he'll just go Bc6. It leads to too many useless queen moves.
Frankly, fantastic.
16:58 lolled way to hard at this, you are the best Ben
I don't think anyone noticed, but 3 years later, when he said "Nein Nein Nein", that's what you see in a kilogram of fine gold. I mean, it sounds like 999
2:10 That's Grandmaster Attack to you!
I like when the lecturers show their own games.
I love it when he roasts his students
Welcome to beginner breakdown, I'm MIKE KUMMUH, YEUH! Hahaha wow I can't breathe
now @37:37 why didn't he take with the bishop instead trading queens ??
why not Qe3 at 32:27??
Hi Ben, during the Toronto International Chess Tournament, 1981, won by Korchnoi; do you remember your post-mortem with Dlugy in a Benoni where an East Asian kibitzer commented on a three half move maneuver whereupon both you and Dlugy looked up to see who made the comment? I think it was a black knight maneuver that was non-obvious. That was me. Can you recall the game and what you thought of my comment?
The game might have been one where only one of you played someone else, I'm looking for the game score so I can remember what I said. Therefore I might start with the two players involved in that Benoni.
Hi, I am pretty sure I am missing something, so can anyone educate me why knight taking queen at 13:33 is an illegal move?
Thanks for helping out a beginner.
Moving the knight would check the king due to the bishop on B5
@@ven7363 Oh, I see.
Sorry that was super dumb of me, should have realised when he said that was a pin. Thank you so much!!
At 10:40 he reads your mind! O.O
I love how he looks right at the camera
I love this guy. I have to meet him once before I die lol sounds weird but I don´t care. I know Ben understands my humor.
Can someone explain to me why at 13:30 black's knight didn't take white's queen?
The knight is pinned to the king so moving it would be an illegal move as it would be leaving the king in check.
8:07 "With so many arrows, there's no defense." But I would've liked to hear him comment on White's missed opportunities for NxN.
I don't even know how to play chess but this was entertaining
That game with the 8 pawns is amazing. Wonder why white didn't resign earlier.
Keeping up with his 'red with embarrassment/green with envy' joke per lecture, I see.
The "Don Rickles" of chess.
I don't even fkn play chess but I've been watching a bunch of these videos
Same. And asking my say why as as speak
You should've gave a demonstration of c4's being explosive.
I pretty much suck at chess and i dont really play it. my 10 year old niece can beat me. but i like watching these videos as they are fascinating to watch the strategy used in games
I wish I could attend your classes, Mr. Ben Finegold, even though I do not understand grand master games until it is explained thoroughly. (My rating on chess.com is around 1700, that must be the reason...)
P.S. I don't understand why the class is so quite all the time. I laugh my ass of sometimes :)
30:50 "and I have a fork, which is good in a diner" :-D
38:38 - why not C5?
27:50 BAM!
HELP ! WHAT WOULD YOU DO ? (I play at mid level beginner level)
I have followed the advice
- develop, control center, castle (and my rooks are connected)
the computer I'm playing has only 1 piece developed, no control of center and the King is exposed - no castle.
Yet - I'm stuck and can find no way to attack !
Please give your advice -
I'm the black pieces and control all of 1 - 4 (no white pieces on 1-4)
A2-BLACK PAWN
A5-WHITE KNIGHT
A6-WHITE PAWN
A8-WHITE ROOK
B1-BLACK KING
B3-BLACK PAWN
B6-WHITE PAWN
C1-BLACK ROOK
C2-BLACK PAWN
C3-BLACK KNIGHT
C7-WHITE PAWN
C8-WHITE BISHOP
D2-BLACK QUEEN
D5-BLACK PAWN
D6-WHITE PAWN
D8-WHITE KING
E2-BLACK BISHOP
E4-BLACK PAWN
E8-WHITE QUEEN
F3-BLACK PAWN
F4-BLACK KNIGHT
G6-WHITE PAWN
G8-WHITE KNIGHT
H1-BLACK ROOK
H2-BLACK PAWN
H7-WHITE PAWN
H8-WHITE ROOK
11:15 My favorite first move? Queen E8 of cause! It wins instantly because his king is dead!
He seems to be a nice guy.
Ben you are good
This guy is really funny haha
"Put it in H". Great reference
What does it mean anyway? I've read somewhere that H stands for (N)eutral in Russia.
Pretty sure its a Simpsons reference
Put it in H? Its Put in an H
No, its put it in H. Its a Simpsons reference, as I said earlier, and that's definite because one time he said 'Put it in H, Homer Simpson style'.
It sounds different when u say it slower
Love his stubbornness haha adds charisma to his character of being a GM teaching beginners
why didn't he exchange his bad knight for your good knight?
why at 16 minutes dont the white bishop take g2 pawn when he moved knight?
I think Ben didn't want to kill his own pawn. I also heard it's illegal.
jqbtube
I'm sorry, Mr not-idiot guy, but I thought the pawn on g2 is white. It seems I watch these videos inverted - good to know Ben Finegold actually is a black person.
How do you have so much time to play chess?
Cuz... He's a professional? That's like asking a professional football player how he's got so much time to play football.
You almost finished with 9 pawns!
