Your videos inspired me to get my first Panasonic Lumix back in 2020 man, back then I got the G7 and used it for a year before upgrading to the S5 in 2021. I got the S5iiX over the summer.

Congrats on the new camera! I’ve been wanting to try the S5IIX since it came out, but I’m to invested in to Sony to switch systems, so I’ve been purposely not seeking it in fear of me liking it to much 😅

I stopped 1 step shy of the X and went all in on the S5II. I regret nothing! My approach is a bit different... all that dynamic range we get IS GOOD but what it really allows me to do is be able to recover better from my exposure mistakes, haha. Great video and glad to see we're still Lumixing.

Brilliant review!
On lite codecs - the 20Mb/s 1080 is great for events - and it still looks pretty good if you have decent lens - I can shoot 12 hours of event footage (you know - speeches from a stage or lectern) on a 128 Gb card
So keen to see what your shoot with it ! Love my s5iix best all rounder for the money I reckon . Plus the new bmpcc6k is L mount so should see some more L mount lense options grow even more soon 😊
Definitely, back when I had the original S5 the L mount was still kinda fresh but now there are some great options!

Such a smart camera and great review! I have the S5II and love it! The only issues I find with this new series is shooting in lower higher frame rates on adapted ef glass with can lead the camera to freeze? This could be my sigma adapter, but this is using sigma ef glass.
The option of pro res at this price point is incredible!

They are good, I got ZVE1 due to smaller size, 60fps uncropped and 120fps with minimal crop, but probably not the first choice if you shoot for over half an hour at a time, which I don’t. This was my second choice.
Pair this with the G9 ii and you're golden

I just got a GH5s and i'm gonna use it as a main camera, no image stabilisation but i really like it.
Nigel, I hope you don't take offense at my comment. I'm really happy that you are growing your brand and are able to afford and grow with higher quality equipment and gear that fulfils you as a creator and individual.
However please dont forget that you have some followers like me from when you used to make content on budget mft cameras and focusing on value that can be derived out of the tight budget category which is why many of us followed you! It's a bit sad that I personally couldn't grow with you but I would kindly suggest that you also include us in future videos. :)
This comment hits the feels. I purchased a gh3 because of Nigel’s great information long ago. I sold it regretfully for an a7iii that one week after purchase the price dropped and they wouldn’t honor a discount. So I was forced to return it. I got sticker shock and decided not to repurchase at the better price and have not used a decent camera since other than my phone. It feels like a big hole missing in my life. I’ve been looking at the s5iix with the discounted lenses but I have been seeing so many UA-cam promotions about this camera I am scared . I’ve been thinking about the cannon r6 ii as the only option but ends up a bit more expensive.

The HD internal ProRes is a great feature for broadcast and TV work, who still want HD. I always found the original S5 HD a bit soft.

Great video. Small suggestion: Try reversing your top handle when you're using a longer lens. You'll get better balance for carrying.
the handle I had actually can slide forward and back. Just didn't think to change it while shooting.

I own GH3 and G7(for filmmaking) I wish I could get a Lumix S5 or S5iiX.
The S5II would be a great compromise, it will probably drop in price more as the new cameras from lumix come out. I still own my Gh3 too and won't stop shooting with it!
The s5iix looks like a great camera. I guess the full frame makes it preferable to the g9ii? Plus, having already owned the s5, you have the lenses. Both these cameras are so impressive. I think it is funny that, except for the lenses, they are the same size. If you have a chance, I'd love to see you discuss the two cameras in relation to each other.
Yes if I get the opportunity I will compare them, I still love micro 4/3 but full frame definitely has its advantages!
Micro four thirds is an end of life format. I had a G9, great camera, but you want to go full frame now really. Can get much smaller lenses as well nowadays, not much difference in size when you compare what the apertures and focal lengths really are on each camera given the crop sensor. G9 II has sold very poorly apparently.

The original was great, the Phase Af from the S5II and S5IIX is very worth it though!

Cool camera glad Panasonic reached out, you are aways very fair in your reviews and not so gear minded. Does the 1080p support pdaf in all framerates? Heard there was a wierd omission of this in full hd
in the frame rates I use, the PDAF has worked great, even up to 120p
Where I am, the s5m2 is cheaper than the g9m2. I'm voting for a full frame budget lenses video.

Nice - I ,like you evolved from the GH2,3,4 and 5 - I currently have a GH6 with the Sigma 16 f1.4 permanently bolted onto it. For food macros at 4k 120
For my corporates, my 2 S5s are just fantastic. Love the Leica 24-70 f2.8 pro.
Definitely looking at the S5II or IIx though... How good is it to have a full frame GH5 with rock solid autofocus!!
I got to test out the S5IIX from Panasonic UK last month, really, really loved it. My main camera is the FX30 from Sony, which in almost every metric is a "better" camera, but the S5IIX suits my style so well, I'm genuinely considering picking one up to use for projects where the Open Gate could be valuable - because it is. The question is can I justify investing in the new camera and new lenses just for a 3:2 6K aspect ratio.
And you can pair it with the new BMCC 6k that is also L-mount, full frame and shoots open gate 3:2 🚀

I just got the s52 for a littl over 1500, being patient def is a virtue. If anyone deserves a new camera it is def u man. I had the s5 but for some reason I just didn't like it , i really like the s52 though
yeah I might pick one up as a B cam to the X in the future, definitely think Lumix knocked it outa the park with this camera

If he needs something basic like 60fps with no crop, your full frame beast in low light is useless to him
