Seriously between all the latest camera reviews, we are at a point were the scenes that say "Shot on Lumix xxx" or "Shot on Sony xxx" all look the same quality, same everything. I think reviewers must dig in real deep to find real flaws and pros of the latest cameras for the average consumer.

Sigma FP shoots 4K CDNG raw to an external SSDs. I'm betting this will be the next evolution for cameras. RAW over usb. S1HM2 maybe???

I love the color science out of this camera. I've been working with Panasonic for over 13 years. I am a little bummed about this camera autofocus mode. To me it seemed like it still loses you compared to my Sony FX30. I want to go back to my Panasonic, yet I still got to be convinced about its autofocus feature. Hope it does get better with an updated firmware. Great job on this review!
Other reviewer said that it happens when you use eye AF in video. But when you use human detection in video it no loses you.

Too bad the quality lenses cost 2-3 times the price of the most expensive RF lenses. Pass.

@@michaelbell75 I actually looked this up on B&H and Canon RF lens are more then Panasonic S Pro lenses. By $200 or so. So not sure what you were referencing. Also, Canon doesn't seem to support third party lens where the L mount does.

Great video! Thanks for sharing! Yeah, the DJI tracking plus, having auto-focus is a game changer! Got to have this, the 18mm, and the DJI since watching this great video! NOW, I got to talk to my boss/wife about raising our debt ceiling! I'm sure I'm heading for the dog house with this one but, "You gotta do, whatcha gotta do" even when it hurts! Hell, it always hurts!
In some ways this is a Blackmagic 6k but with the capabilities of being a really good photography camera as well as benefitting from Leica image processing. The S5ii/S5xii is so underrated, people are so focused on Fujifilm, Sony and Canon that a lot are forgetting about Panasonic.
THANK YOU so MUCH! Finally a video camera that perfectly fits my needs. That follow focus when attached to DJI Ronin is beyond useful to me as I am spending a lot of time shooting on my Ronin RS4. This S5iiX is such a videographer beast! full sized HDMI and so many options from Open Gate to gargantuan resolution AND that external recording to USB storage!. I almost pulled the trigger for Sony FX3 or Canon R5C for my next video tool, but I will admit I am sold on this Panasonic instead. THANK YOU THANK YOU!🙏🙏
Man, S1II, S1R II and S1HII have the possibility to be the best cameras of all for their price point. If Panasonic keep the good things of the S5II, add a perfected AF and faster sensors and processors, then the S1 line can be real top tier cameras for far less than Sony similar offerings
I had the S5 II X pre-ordered since launch of the S5. It took my dealer until last week to finally get stock. But hell, it was worth the wait.
A fantastic review! I was especially impressed with the DJI Ronin features that I was completely unaware of.
The Ronin might take up the USB-C for control though (so no SSD recording).
Sold my Sony A7Siii and order Lumix S5iiX keen to see if I regret the move

I noticed the autofocus breathing a bit that can be adjusted with settings and maybe firmware will fix but overall looks amazing.
I just love how Panasonic handles color overall. Was this hot in VLOG by chance or just standard profile?

Returned the s5IIx slow auto focus and 4K 60 with a crop and crop is slow motion.
6K open gate on the newer iPhones better in my opinion.
Sony and canon win this one for sure.
Now, year 2023, every camera need to be able to record in a SSD via USB-C. The video sizes are bigger and bigger and the small SD or CF exoress cards are far slower, less storage capable and pricier per gigabyte than a good SSD. You can have a good 2TB SSD for the price of a 512 CFexpress or less.
We all hope for better focus... several years already. Except that pretty decent camera. Regards from Belgium
I noticed at 2:45 you walking toward the camera, it wouldn't focus on you till you were up close. I think Sony or Canon would. Maybe they should've combined contrast & phase detect and have both when needed.
Someone above said that if the setting was on the human detection instead of the eye AF should do the trick.

I'd wish instead of cropping @60fps, they'd offer an option to use line-skipping to get rid of said crop. :(
That's why he was shooting with the 18mm prime, to take care of that crop.

One thing I was wondering myself was your audio setup in this video: Which lavalier microphone did you use and was it directly connected to the camera (so the internal preamp was used) or did you have an external recorder which was attached to the camera (to mic input or with the external XLR adapter available)?

Boggles my mind how nobody is uploading HLG/HDR footage from this camera.
At this point in the game …one can’t easily color correct and color grade hdr video on the fly.

Less quantity, but higher quality. The Lumix S primes are outstanding. No focus breathing, razor sharp, and more. They are on another level of craftsmanship compared to lenses anywhere near their price.
The ronin integration is amazing, does this also work on the normal S5ii?
Waited for so long since the GH5 lol....then spent a boat load of money moving onto full frame Sony cameras and lenses...now the pain to buy L-mount lenses is just too much. BUT - if we see this phase AF, USB-C recording etc in a future Lumix M4/3 camera then I'd dust off all the GH5 gear immediately and get one
The crop is the deal breaker for!
I will wait for the S1H Mark II which I would hope would have CF express cards so we can record internally rather than having to worry about an external source or drive. Give me the GH6 functionality but with actual good auto focus, the SD card skillet for me on this one.

I am not 100% sure, but i believe while streaming you stream at 1080p 60fps max, so probably you can do it internally with sd cards. Not sure if you can stream over usb. I;m about to buy this camera, so learning all these new features it has. Great!

actually there is compression in some raw formats. The compression is just lossless.

so after a decade sony still have the best AF system that panasonic can not have unless they do something on their new firmware update. And i believe people still prefer sony a7siii over any other camera. . It would be cool you can compare these two.

I believe all of the software features are going to be available as a $200 purchase. You don’t need to ditch your camera, unless you want the all blacked out look.

Hello. Please let us know if Lumix S5IIX has PDAF in 1080p frame rates from 24 to 120 FPS.
Only upto 30p in full frame mode and 60p in APSC mode supports PDAF.

Too complicated if you ask me. It has a lot of nice features, but I’ll probably never use them. I’ll keep my A7S3 for a while longer, but if I didn’t already have one, it would be an option.
This camera does photo even better than video. I used my A7S3 on a low light photo shoot and it was a disaster.
With the Ronin controls, do you lose the ability to record to a USB-C SSD (does it take up the USB-C for control communication)?

Sheesh. That AF performance looks poor for a 2023 camera. Really cool to see Panasonic following in Fuji's footsteps with the internal ProRes though. All video focused mirrorless cameras really need to incorporate this moving forwards. Would love to see internal ProRes come to Sony's FX lineup as a firmware update at some point.
Sony is in the position of the top seller with a large portfolio of cameras so they have low incentive to update.
Sony is currently the camera with the best AF capabilities, so it's not surprising that they are slow to update other new features to their devices while other brands are trying to improve the AF ability, then sony just needs to win the AF, they are enough to capture a lot of user market share

The IMX410 sensor used in all these bodies tops out at 38FPS for full-width sensor readout. No amount of processing power will change that. Sony semiconductors has a datasheet available for this.

I got the s5mk2x and RS3mini but cannot get them into "follow me" mode, could you please tell me what setting do you have in the camera?
It's hard to believe Panasonic can make cameras this good and no one is buying them, to the point it appears LUMIX may go out of business. I think people are crazy paying Sony and Canon prices for inferior cameras but it is what it is. I also feel bad for LUMIX because they listened to their customers and gave us what we wanted but the market niche of people open to buying LUMIX was apparently too small to keep them in business. These cameras are heading for cult status if LUMIX does close up shop.
How the fuck is Panasonic going to go out of business.

The only real turn off for me is that autofocus. God, it's so noticeable.
Camera is great, too bad the quality lenses for it are an absurdly priced $5,000-$8,000. They make the RF L lenses look like a bargain. Makes this camera a deal breaker for many of us.
Sigma and Panasonic has plenty native L mount glass. No need to go broke.
What lenses are you talking about? I dont know of any lenses outside of a few rare Lieca's in that price category. Every prime focal length is covered by Sigma at f1.4 at an affordable price.
