Wow, I can't thank you enough for putting together such a fantastic comparison video! Seriously, it's been a game-changer for me. I've been on the fence between A7 IV and R6ii, but after watching this video, I'm sold on the Canon R6 II. Can't wait to get my hands on canon!
I'm all about Lumix. Other then the AF history, they try to put as much features into their cameras as they can without put a 'Cannon/Sony tax' on it. In the end, the tool you have and are comfortable is the best. More about where your lens are at. They all do the job.
I have owned Nikon and Canon DSLR's over the years..and then a few years ago made the jump to Lumix. The S1 is still the best camera I have ever owned. Love it to death. It's a master of everything.

After using it for a year I learnt that Cannon is like iphone, they don't make the best things, they market the best things. They love new inexperienced youtubers promoting their products because they know they will invest in the glass that will keep them with their bodies. I will never buy Canon ever again.

Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make this I imagine it was a lot of work! Have downloaded the files for some pixel peeping but am happy in the Canon ecosystem and was good to see the strengths and weaknesses of these 3
I had the Sony a7III and wanted to upgrade to the a7IV when it was launched. At the camera shop, I handled the new a7IV, took a few shots and didn't feel excited about it. The shop owner recommended me to try out the Canon R5 and RF 24-70L. I was blown away by the images produced by the Canon combo, and bought them instead of the a7IV, I agree with James' observation that images straight out of the Sony camera, in particular, human skin tone are not so flattering and I often required more time to correct them. Thanks for the great review of these 3 fantastic cameras.
The idea that a particular brand has some "magical" color science which fixes everything is a complete myth. Every damn camera for decades can shoot raw and thus anything can be made to look like anything. Everyone should simply buy what they like or use what they've got because the camera you use means very little.

@@zenscape i was a former r5 owner but couldnt fall in love with the system. I felt the lenses were overpriced and inferior to every sony lens I tested. The final straw was when I tried a sony 70-200 f2.8 ii on the sony a7rv. the sony lens was lighter, internal zooming, and more accurate at focusing. The sony images were sharper and easier to edit. I just cant figure paying top dollar for canon lenses when sony is making objectively better stuff for much better prices. The tamron 35-150 is a GAME CHANGER. I use that lens exclusively for events now and it is amazing. Canon has nothing of the sort, and even if they did create a similar lens it would cost 3k. Anyway, im still trying to sell a few canon lenses and held onto my eos r because I enjoy using it as a travel camera, but professionally I dont think there is any reason to go with canon.
Outstanding review! As a former Z6ii owner I went A7iv for the customization and lens options and price-to-performance of Tammy and Sigma glass. At heart I'm a Canon guy that adores Nikon colors. The color science on the A7iv and it's 33mp sensor was a great middle ground and easy to work with in post. With the exceptional customization options and "My Menu" on the Sony, I never have to deep dive into the menu architecture, but it is less confusing than the Nikon to me personally. Not quite as intuitive as Canon, but vastly improved over the A7iii. Canon is losing a generation of Camera shooters by not allowing 3rd Party lens development (me included). With a family of 8, I just can't justify the $$$ for Canon RF glass. I could buy EF mount adapted (and the adaptors are excellent), but that seems retroactive. IF Canon opens their mount, I'll be selling the Sony. The lower end options of Canon's lineup (including used RPs) are very attractive options for my kids. Would LOVE to see a series on the best adapted EF glass for Canon RF mounts. If you can't take phenomenal images with all today's offerings, it's not the camera that's the problem ... that coming from someone who made a living off the 1st EOS body and a darkroom :D>.
I'm always impressed by your reviews but this one was on another level. I think your channel has the potential to become one of the best photography channels on UA-cam. The images are smooth and pleasant. The music and voice acting are great. Most importantly, you maintain the best possible balance between technicalities and real-world experience in your videos WELL DONE
The A7IV eye AF issue is one of the reasons I passed on it and got the R6 II. Mitch Lally was the only other UA-camr to mention this so I'm glad you found it too. Issues like this seem to get buried by Sony sponsored UA-camrs and those that do quick reviews or only focus on video. There are mentions of this issue in some photo/Sony forums but most people get attacked and get called "noobs" if they bring this up. The same thing used to happen when people brought up overheating issues on the Sony mirrorless cams like the A7III and A7RIII/IV. Also, as great as the IBIS is on the S5 II, it also suffers from corner wobbles/jello at ultrawide angles. I believe it was Casey at Camera Conspiracies that showed this along with one other person. It's not quite as bas as the Canon, but enough to ruin shots for sure.
I definitely didn’t expect to encounter this kind of issue with the Sony. If this is a common issue I certainly wouldn’t be happy, I’m totally open to it being user error such as a wrong setting but I had no issues with the Canon/LUMIX. I do remember Mitch Lally mentioning some eye AF issues with accuracy. You’re right regarding the S5 II, unfortunately 24mm was as wide as I had access to so I couldn’t test how bad the wobble is at those super wide angles, but have seen from a few videos it seems to be an issue although already improved a little through firmware (somehow)
@77dris bro don’t you even act like you had any plans of choosing any other brand than Canon. It didn’t matter what the cameras were you were picking canon 😂😂😂
@@RockyMaiviaMiami Ong, this guy is literally on every photography/videography related video preaching about his R6II and how the Sonys suck. I've never seen such bizarre, obsessive behaviour, like bro you love your Canon good for you lol.
For landscapes, especially the scene you shot, you could have put them into "high resolution mode". The Lumix also can suppress movement. On the GH6, you can shoot high res handheld. For video, dynamic range is especially important, but only the Lumix offers proper tools to getting the exposure correct- Lumix all the way!
For the landscape comparison I think is not apples to apples, as the Lumix wasn't shot in the exact same light conditions as you can see in the far. This should have been made with the 3 cameras taking the picture at the same time. For the rest of the test comparison, it's a pretty good one you made. Very informative, thanks for it!
I also wanted to thank you for this great comparison and especially for providing us with the photos and footage to play around with! Probably gonna buy the S5II.
Thank you for your more than interesting videos. And this is very generous to provide the RAW files and it's a key difference with other reviews : I really appreciate to be able to make my own assessment of what very cares for me.
Have used A7IV & R6ii. Can’t go wrong with either. Went with R6ii for AF & build. Canon feels like a curvy smooth brick in the hand. I know RF lenses are pricey but they’re really good.
I think the S5 is kicking butt and is one of the best cameras for 2023. Unfortunately I'm poor and already vested in Canon from lenses, batteries to grips, so switching any time soon is out of the question. Awesome video, thanks for taking the time to put this together 💯
Great review and comparison, really helpful. Only missed information on the viewfinders, but good to see someone comparing these camera’s on all the other aspects.
Awesome review comparison! One of the most detailed, unbiased and comprehensive review! Video quality production is top notch, you mentioned stuff that most reviewers I’ve watched didn’t even mentioned like the AF example, didn’t know about that issue till now. easily one of the best review comparison videos of these products out here! Thanks for the wonderful review video fam! I’m getting the Canon R6 Mark II soon!
Usually I don't subscribe for just one video, but yours was amazing and I think you deserve much more! So here you have a new one! Congratulations :) And smile to the camera, you both look great
You are using Sigma lens, which is a third party lens for the S5II for lens and image comparison. To be a more fair comparison, the Lumix native lens 24-70 should have been used because it is sharper and renders better color than the Sigma, albeit the Sigma is excellent in its own right. Nevertheless, you are using a cheaper lens and not Lumix' native lens, whereas you are using Sony and Canon's native lenses. No wonder they would come out sharper and with better color than the third party lens that you are using for the Lumix. Talk about handicapping.
Great ! Your ISO test just convinced me to buy one or two Panasonic S5ii !!! as it has the cleanest image even at iso 25600 !.. (and we all face low light whenerve asked to take a photo or Video). At 5:42 the Sigma lens on the Panasonic is 3 times as sharp as the Canon RF, and Sony's GM lens. Wow. This is a surprise. ! Looking at the background ceiling when I freeze your ISO test at 5:42 It is so obvious how "'dirty" the ceiling beams look on both the R6/2, and the A7/4 (which I nearly bought because of it's 33 Mpixels. Panasonic lives again, and boy... what a come back ! . Even at iso 25600 the S5ii blond hair is sharp! and the model's face is nicely separated from the background (You have to freeze frame to see it more easily) . On the Sony and Canon the noise is like a 'separate noise layer' applied at the whole screen, blending her face with the background .. 'Like soup' 🙂 Also, The noise particles at very high ISO are SO FINE on the Lumix that No one can see it on Social media/ phone. it would look ""Normal" and even on big 65 inch TV I see this fine noise looking like a mild, deliberate effect. adding to the "'Texture" Thanks for this practical test. Canon lens is good at micro-contrast but the sensor fails on Dynamic range as you mentioned, and Canon Lenses are overpriced since the Sigma is sharper ! Same with Sony Lenses, I seen others also complain about Sony's 'Chromatic Aberration' with purpule and blue colors on every fine branch and complex patterns (as you show on them branches), Plus The Sony has the worst Jello effect when panning both on video or stills work. They each have some good points, but adding all the points the Panasonic wins by about 30% I see you noticed R6/2's lower dynamic range against the Panasonic's superior D/R I will buy the S5ii now (Photo), also buy the -X- version when it comes out in 3 months (Video) work Such useful info here I know you went to a lot of trouble Not just to talk, but to do an almost scientific demonstration.. Thanks ** So How is the Auto-Focus on the S5ii with the Sigma? is there any disadvantage in Sigma focus accuracy or Panasonic focus-speed? because the Sony A7/4 seems to front-focus on the nose, not the eye.
Thank you for the great comment! You’re gonna love the Panasonics. I’ve now had a chance to try a few Sigma and LUMIX L mount primes and have generally found them to be both excellent for video. In photo it feels like the LUMIX lenses are a little more confident at grabbing eyes.
Your blog and reviews are the best!absolutely everything what I would like to know - u showing in your videos. Still can't decide between Canon and lumix. Both are great
Its crazy to me that other brands have no functions like waveforms.I use Lumix and I would be totally lost without the waveforms, such nice tool to nail exposure!
When you have a proper LCD/EVF you don't need that at all, I never use them on my C70 and my image is always spot on. All those things are derived from the times when LCDs and EVFs were crap and somehow many cameras still have them. Having the ability to just look at the LCD/EVF and set a proper exposure and white balance is the key for efficient workflow, and Sony people had never heard about that obviously :) :)
This video is impeccable. Thanks to this video I made my final decision after racking my brain for an entire month. I am a beauty influencer on YT and there are certain features that you can’t compromise with when it comes to the right camera. It was between the Canon R6 ii and the Sony for me. Even tho the Sony has more pixels, the 4k 60 crop is a huge deal for me and 24 pixels is just as good as 33 imho.i just love more about the Canon r6 ii vs the Sony. It was a very hard decision tho. I just received my Canon R6 ii and I am blown away so far. Thank you so much for this informative video. Your hard work is definitely appreciated. ❤
@@JamesReader I’m using canon from past 10 years and I was thinking to go with sony but with the help of this video. I see no reason to switch in Sony at this budget. (R6 Mark ii)
The landscape was a good opportunity to just test the high-resolution sensor shift from the Lumix S5 II and compare the resolution bump, how much difference there is. For some reason the S5 II has extra red/magenta not just compared to the Sony and Canon but also to previous iterations from Panasonic. The Sony always look more dead, for skin-tones the Canon looked better.
I hope Canon gets the whole 3rd party lens situation fixed. Everyone has their own preference but that issue alone is changing the perspective of a lot of photographers/videographers. I will always have a bias towards Canon but the Sony and Lumix are amazing....
WOW, the city is Sheffield UK !. I lived there for 2 years and I always missed there. Thanks for this great video and the review is very helpful for my buying decision.
Thank you for the review! All of these cameras seem to be great but I am not sure if there is any chance I could use any of these when shooting the documentary 12h and more per day (fullHD 10bit still would drain battery and fill up storage). If you have any ideas what camera could be the best for long days of shooting please share!
The S5IIX could be a good option in this price range. You can power via USB for extended battery and also use external USB C SSD drives for cheap high capacity fast storage.
We all know Canon R6 MII is an excelent FF camera, the problem with canon mirrorless cameras is the RF market: the bracket is so wide between poor lenses and very expensive lenses and Cannon has banned third party RF manufactures which turns out in committing at their RF optics to get a decent IQ, or the burden of the 100g EF adapter with the old ones (which I hate to carry on with). Thanks for the video, it was great
Thank you so much for watching. I completely agree with you, I think the lens issue should be the biggest consideration for anyone looking to get into RF mount right now.
@@markshirley01 they are not, I think all consumer lenses have both good performance and light weight (some even are like pancakes) but jump to the next level is a way too much. Besides they are thought for Full frame, James Reader demonstrated it in one video.
Came to compare for the Lumix s5 II, fell in love with the Canon R6 II (especially the colors) thanks to this video, got myself the Canon R8 since it‘s the same camera with some stuff missing which doesn’t bother me and saves me 1k$ here. Will arrive in a few days and I‘m so excited! Replaces my Sony a6400 Main Camera.
What camera would you choose, the Sony fx3 or the canon r6 mark 2? For documentary/vlog content, I also like to take pictures on occasion. great Content.
Tough one. FX3 has great lens options. I would guess it’s a little better in low light too. R6 MKII will take the better photos though (in terms of resolution at least).
Thank you for this great review! I'm not sure if you had the opportunity to test the Fuji X-H2S, but if you did, in terms of video quality and features for run and gun situations, which one would you choose between the Fuji X-H2S and Lumix S5II? Cheers
How did you grade the pictures? I'm a Lumix user and I find the colors vastly improve when changing out the adobe profiles for the native Lumix ones in Lightroom (I mostly go for cinelike v and vivid). I'm always amazed how much better they look when doing that. This might be applicable to the Canon and Sony as well.
These were all started in “Natural” colour profile, it was always my favourite on the S1. I’ll give some of the other profiles a try, it’s a little awkward at the moment because you still can’t open the S5 II RAWs in light room.
@@JamesReader Ahh I was talking about developing Raw pictures in Lightroom. I thought that was possible with the S5ii files by now. Straight out of camera "Natural" is really nice indeed.
I'm a VERY happy A7IV owner, but all three of these cameras are beasts and I'd be happy with any of the three. I particularly love the Lumix video image and IBIS.
What really stood out to me, was how dull the Lumix looked in the nature pictures. It did lose many vibrant colors which the Canon and Sony did capture. For video however, the Lumix colors are very good, I think they are the most filmic out-of-the-box. Also, I really liked the contrasty look of the Canon for a commercial look. They look straight from a fashion ad or something.
If you take a look at the 3 nature pictures, the sun is totally covered in the Lumix one, that's why there's no contrast at all, and colors are gone. Sun is gone, while in the Canon and Sony is still pretty there, is not a good comparison in that matter.
To be fair, he was using native lenses for Sony & Canon and a 3rd party lens for the Lumix. That's not the best way to compare the brands imo. He still did an amazing job with the video though, and ya gotta use what you have, I understand.
Very good review. However and only a few reviewers speak about it, but the standard profiles on the S5II (Natural, Cine, Portrait) are worse than before. They use over sharpening and noise/chroma noise reduction, one of the worst 4K I ever seen from a Panasonic camera. I made some videos showcasing the issue. V-Log is not impacted but I don't use it in low light.
Thank you for watching! I actually saw your videos a few weeks ago and it’s a shame to see Lumix has done this to the standard profiles. I’m planning on doing a follow up review on the S5II so will be covering the issue then.
Very nice video! I am trying to choose between the Canon and the Sony. I like Panasonic cams for video, but I'm not sure about stills. I noticed the change in screen position for the comparisons. First Canon, Sony and Lumix, then Canon, Lumix, Sony. Was that intentional? Thx.
That was a very good comparison. I have an S5II with the new Panasonic 14-28mm macro lens and Sigma 105mm DG DN f/2.8 Macro lenses. I also would like to get the Sigma 24-70 in the future. I have had my S5II for just over 2 weeks ago.I have not had much time to test it yet due to wet weather where I live and being unwell lup until a few days ago. I have used Panasonic cameras since I got a GH4 in 2016, before then I had used Canon DSLRs since 2008. I have used a Panasonic GH4, GH5 and GH6 and love their menu system, ergonomics and video features. I noticed the magenta shift on the S5II. The GH6 colors look better to me as they don't have the magenta issue and skin tones look quite nice. I wish Panasonic would have used those colors but they said they wanted to keep the colors similar to the original S5 and did minor updates to them. In the video tests, I liked the look of the Canon colors but I have liked Canon colors for a long time. I have seen that V-Log on the S5II is a bit softer, but it has always been a bit softer in other Panasonic cameras and some Panasonic guides I have read (one for the EVA-1 V-log and another for the DVX-200 V-Log L) mentions to bring out the detail you have to do some edge sharpening on the footage in V-Log. On the S5II I prefer 5.9K 4:2:0 over 4K 4:2:2. Sure its not 4:2:2 but on V-Log at least, the video looks more detailed in 5.9K and a little soft on details in 4K. While it can shoot internally 5.8K 17:9, 5.9K 16:9 and 6K 3:2. it doesn't output via HDMI higher than 4K, unless you buy the firmware upgrade for RAW output which is coming at the end of May. Sean from Panasonic said will output 5.9K/6K RAW to the Atomos Ninja V+ In the higher ISO photo test, it looked like the S5II had a bit of sharpening at 12800 and 25600 but then again that is very high ISO you probably wouldn't be shooting in so not really an issue. I really like the IBIS on the S5II and have really liked Panasonic's IBIS on the Gh5 and GH6. In Boost I.S, on the S5II hand holding the camera, I can get a shot like I was on a tripod. With the 14-28mm lens, I have noticed the edge wobble at wider angles with the IBIS. On one of the Lumix USA live streams, Sean from Panasonic mentioned the wobble and said something like, that it was because that for years ultra wide angle lenses were often more expensive that standard zoom range lenses and they are not common focal lengths people use most of the time, so the IBIS was always designed to correct lenses of at least 20mm.
Thank you for watching Dave and I hope you are feeling better! My first mirrorless was the GH5 and have always been a fan of Lumix's ergonomics, menus and colours just like you. I personally don't often shoot video wider than 20mm so I actually appreciate Lumix's approach with their IBIS, compared to Canon where you can still see some wobble around 24mm. I've also been loving the 6k out of the camera, as you say, noticeably sharper than the 4k if that's what you're looking for. I hope the weather improves and you get chance to go out and put it through it's paces, I think you'll love it
for a first time buyer ( and potentially last time purchaser) what would you get? The canon or the sony? I will be vlogging outside as well as in a lowlight garage for fitness videos. Ive been using ipgone 13 but all the videos come out dark or grainy no matter what lighting I use. Thank you for the video, its been a great wealth of information!

Thank you Kenneth! Malham is in North Yorkshire, UK. The lone tree is just outside of Malham village, if you send me an e-mail I can send over details of how to find the tree. Great place and I certainly didn't capture it to it's full potential.
Amazing review. Only one point, there is a distinct difference between the sigma 24-70 and the panasonic 24-70. The latter would have brought the colours much closer to the canon R6. The only real fault I find in the s5ii is the awful placement of the hdmi, the little wheel on the top right corner, the lack of touch subject tracking and the crop on 60p They were really close. Hopefully cameras in the future will all adopt the S1H/GH6 screen.
I use my cameras more for video, and went with Panasonic S5II. Very happy with it, looking forward to adding a good value 35mm prime to the kit lens. The build quality is very reassuring. Any thoughts on the Panasonic 35mm f/1.8 compared to the Sigma f/1.4, for video? Leaning toward the lighter / smaller / cheaper Panasonic f/1.8, as have been very happy with my Panasonic MFT 50mm f/1.8. I'm based in Valencia, Spain, so felt the overheating would be a real problem in Summer with Canon or Sony A7IV. And I did want for it photography too, so EVF-less FX-30 was not for me. Other considerations were price/value. Canon is pricey in Europe and Panasonic had good Summer offers, making it 800 euros cheaper! Kit lens deal was a bargain for starters, and lenses, like Panasonics own primes and the Sigmas are better value propositions. But also IBIS is decisive for me, full HDMI is essential, 6k leaves me room to grow, am more comfortable with Panasonic ergonomics, familiar menus, great video tools. Already was on GH5, which am keeping as secondary camera. Even if I had $1000 more, I wouldn't have chosen Canon. I'd have sold the GH5 and MFT lenses, and budgeted for a second S5II with kit lens. With video, that price difference multiples when you will tend to buy more than one camera. So, I expect Panasonic will sell many S5IIs with budget conscious videographers.
I have EF 85 f/1.4 L and with adapter it's nearly twice as big and heavy as Sigma 85 f/1.4 DG DN for Sony. Works well but it's simply not very convenient. This applies to many adapted lenses.
Cool! Straight out of camera is cool if you don't have the time to process your images but as wedding photographers or portrait photographers we're all processing our photography so we shouldn't care too much about what colors look like 'straight out of camera' unless you are shooting JPEG only. It's all about how the camera makes you feel, ergonomics, lens choices, price, video specs (if your hybrid), size and weight... For me the Sony system is the most robust with all of these categories, especially on the lens options front.
I wonder if the magenta look in Lumix is because a weak infrared filter, like happens in some Fuji cameras. It would be great to try an IR filter on the lens
I was so confused when changing my camera from EOS R to the next model. It was your samples which were available on Dropbox which helped me to decide the camera. I finally bought the r6ii. Its a day and night diff between this model and the R that I had earlier. The IBIS is top notch. I only have rf 35 at the moment. I phased out my EF 70to200 f2.8 lens which had started showing its age along with 16 35. It would be great if you could try out the new RF 28 - 70 f2.8 lens which fits in my budget perfectly.
Really glad you're liking the R6 II, that's a great upgrade from the R. Really looking forward to testing out the 28-70, it's still hard to get in the UK at the moment.

I really appreciate this review and so much work behind all these comparisons, without a doubt a very extensive and complete work. Thank You
THE BEST COMPARISON VIDEO IN THE INTERNET . THANKS FOR YOUR WORK .
Thank you!
ขอบคุณมาก เปรียบเทียบได้ดีมาก ขอให้ทำผลงานดีๆแบบนี้มาเรื่อยๆ รอชมอยู่ ^_^
I'm always impressed by your reviews but this one was on another level.
I think your channel has the potential to become one of the best photography channels on UA-cam.
The images are smooth and pleasant. The music and voice acting are great.
Most importantly, you maintain the best possible balance between technicalities and real-world experience in your videos
WELL DONE
Thank you for the amazing comment Nathan. Very encouraging, I really appreciate the kind words
I had the issue as well even with GM lenses. Sold it for the R6 II.
@@RockyMaiviaMiami Ong, this guy is literally on every photography/videography related video preaching about his R6II and how the Sonys suck. I've never seen such bizarre, obsessive behaviour, like bro you love your Canon good for you lol.
@@TheDka1 I think he’s autistic, if you go to his channel he does anime art and some b-roll stuff.
Great work, appreciate it!
Thank you!
For landscapes, especially the scene you shot, you could have put them into "high resolution mode". The Lumix also can suppress movement. On the GH6, you can shoot high res handheld. For video, dynamic range is especially important, but only the Lumix offers proper tools to getting the exposure correct- Lumix all the way!
my exact thoughts!
Thank you for watching! You’ll love the Lumix.
Thank you for your more than interesting videos. And this is very generous to provide the RAW files and it's a key difference with other reviews : I really appreciate to be able to make my own assessment of what very cares for me.
Thank you for watching, really glad you find the files helpful.
When comparing chromatic aberrations check if you have corrections enabled in Lightroom. By default they are enabled for Canon and diabled for Sony.
i believe he checked it. Ive tried that RF in so many scenarios and their optics is just so phenomenal.
The S5II is the best choice out of all three. Only downside is the AF is not up to par with R6II and A7IV but its good enough.
Yes quality price is PANASONIC
Have used A7IV & R6ii. Can’t go wrong with either. Went with R6ii for AF & build. Canon feels like a curvy smooth brick in the hand. I know RF lenses are pricey but they’re really good.
Agreed.
However, you can use EF lenses with a good adapter, so it seems like lens choice is not an issue for Canon R6 m II at all…
@@grigormarch9109 does it have wobble effect at 24mm??
Great to see Sheffield on UA-cam 📸 nice video, very helpful
Thank you George!
That’s how a comparison needs to be done, super useful. Thanks & subbed.
Thank you so much!
I think the S5 is kicking butt and is one of the best cameras for 2023. Unfortunately I'm poor and already vested in Canon from lenses, batteries to grips, so switching any time soon is out of the question. Awesome video, thanks for taking the time to put this together 💯
Reports are that the S5 works quite well with Canon EF lenses and the sigma EF->L mount adapter.
@@KeithSklower Noice!! I didn't know that, good looking out 👌🙏🏼
Great review and comparison, really helpful.
Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words. Really glad to hear it was helpful, I have no doubt you’re gonna love the R6 MKII.
Usually I don't subscribe for just one video, but yours was amazing and I think you deserve much more! So here you have a new one! Congratulations :) And smile to the camera, you both look great
100% agree with you 👍
Thanks for the video 😊
You are using Sigma lens, which is a third party lens for the S5II for lens and image comparison. To be a more fair comparison, the Lumix native lens 24-70 should have been used because it is sharper and renders better color than the Sigma, albeit the Sigma is excellent in its own right. Nevertheless, you are using a cheaper lens and not Lumix' native lens, whereas you are using Sony and Canon's native lenses. No wonder they would come out sharper and with better color than the third party lens that you are using for the Lumix. Talk about handicapping.
Good afternoon. I thank you very much for this review. You described all the cameras so well without missing a single detail.
Thank you so much!
Panasonic lives again, and boy... what a come back !
.
Even at iso 25600 the S5ii blond hair is sharp! and the model's face is nicely separated from the background
(You have to freeze frame to see it more easily) .
On the Sony and Canon the noise is like a 'separate noise layer' applied at the whole screen, blending her face with the background .. 'Like soup' 🙂
Also, The noise particles at very high ISO are SO FINE on the Lumix that No one can see it on Social media/ phone.
it would look ""Normal"
and even on big 65 inch TV I see this fine noise looking like a mild, deliberate effect. adding to the "'Texture"
Thanks for this practical test.
Canon lens is good at micro-contrast but the sensor fails on Dynamic range as you mentioned, and Canon Lenses are overpriced since the Sigma is sharper !
Same with Sony Lenses, I seen others also complain about Sony's 'Chromatic Aberration' with purpule and blue colors on every fine branch and complex patterns (as you show on them branches),
Plus The Sony has the worst Jello effect when panning both on video or stills work.
They each have some good points, but adding all the points the Panasonic wins by about 30%
I see you noticed R6/2's lower dynamic range against the Panasonic's superior D/R
I will buy the S5ii now (Photo), also buy the -X- version when it comes out in 3 months (Video) work
Such useful info here
I know you went to a lot of trouble Not just to talk, but to do an almost scientific demonstration.. Thanks
** So How is the Auto-Focus on the S5ii with the Sigma? is there any disadvantage in Sigma focus accuracy or Panasonic focus-speed? because the Sony A7/4 seems to front-focus on the nose, not the eye.
Both are great
Thank you so much! Very hard decision. Love both systems
James, what you are doing is fantastic. I am delighted every time I watch your materials. Thank you very much for your work. Mirek
Thank you so much!
Doing the best comparison videos ever!!!
Thank you so much!
Wow man I was waiting for such a video compao
Thank you so much Teaya! I’m really glad the video helped, looking forward to seeing what you do with the R6II. I know you’ll love it!

@@JamesReader I’m using canon from past 10 years and I was thinking to go with sony but with the help of this video. I see no reason to switch in Sony at this budget. (R6 Mark ii)
Great video, super unbiased and well done. Just subscribed! Keep up the great work
Thank you Rafael!
thanks James love your content so helpful
Thank you!
Thanks a lot for the comparisson, it helped me make a decision.
The skin tones on Canon looked indeed amazing
I hope Canon gets the whole 3rd party lens situation fixed. Everyone has their own preference but that issue alone is changing the perspective of a lot of photographers/videographers. I will always have a bias towards Canon but the Sony and Lumix are amazing....
excellent comparison, the best out there, thanks for all your work on this video. zen billings in canada

Great work, thank you🍿🙏
I’d be interested to see how the Lumix 24-70 holds up agains the Canon & Sony.
WOW, the city is Sheffield UK !. I lived there for 2 years and I always missed there. Thanks for this great video and the review is very helpful for my buying decision.
Thank you for watching! Love Sheffield!
I thought eye front focus on A7iv was over after a firmware update. I was surprised to see you had problems focusing on the eye.
Amazing video! I just purchased a second body (R6 M2) and appreciate the intelligent contrast between ecosystems!
You're indeed quite objective in your review. Well done 👍
Thank you!
This is the best comparison i have seen yet of R6 vs S3-IV. Thanks!
Thank you Jesper!
you need to shoot with the Lumix s-series 24-70, not with the Sigma. The results will be different.
My thoughts exactly. He shot with first party lenses for the other two, it would only be fair to do the same wit the Lumix.
very good review, thank you
Thank you!
Your review is flawless, thanks.
Wow, thank you. I appreciate the kind words.
I completely agree with you, I think the lens issue should be the biggest consideration for anyone looking to get into RF mount right now.
are the 35mm and 50mm RF 1.8 bad lenses
@@markshirley01 I think the 35mm in particular is really good. The 50 is great for the money, just not quite as sharp as the 35
Wish I could upvote this more than once. The L RF lenses are phenomenal(y expensive)...just no middle area to fill the gap.
Good work!
Awesome vidéo! Im curious about the 1080p quality, who of the 3 has the sharpest 1080p 60fps ?
Perfect video thank you!
Thank you Alex!
Had to click on this video and comment to tell you that you nailed the thumbnail concept.

I still have my Sony A7III too.
Great video!!
Thank you for this great review! I'm not sure if you had the opportunity to test the Fuji X-H2S, but if you did, in terms of video quality and features for run and gun situations, which one would you choose between the Fuji X-H2S and Lumix S5II? Cheers
would be great to see the Leica SL2-S here along with their 24-70mm lens to see how the others fair against each other !

Great Review!
Thank you!
They look straight from a fashion ad or something.
real-time lut is the key
If you take a look at the 3 nature pictures, the sun is totally covered in the Lumix one, that's why there's no contrast at all, and colors are gone. Sun is gone, while in the Canon and Sony is still pretty there, is not a good comparison in that matter.
He didn't use a native Panasonic lens. That may be where the problem is
To be fair, he was using native lenses for Sony & Canon and a 3rd party lens for the Lumix. That's not the best way to compare the brands imo. He still did an amazing job with the video though, and ya gotta use what you have, I understand.
Great video! I think i would go with the S5 II due to the price and the video options. 👍
Great choice 👍
@@JamesReader Great !
Thx.
Great comparison!!!
Sean from Panasonic said will output 5.9K/6K RAW to the Atomos Ninja V+
In the higher ISO photo test, it looked like the S5II had a bit of sharpening at 12800 and 25600 but then again that is very high ISO you probably wouldn't be shooting in so not really an issue.
I hope the weather improves and you get chance to go out and put it through it's paces, I think you'll love it
Great review!
Thank you!
Every well done review!

great one
Very detailed and unbiased comparison. I have used A7IV, but S5 is suprising good for its price.
Amazing review. Only one point, there is a distinct difference between the sigma 24-70 and the panasonic 24-70. The latter would have brought the colours much closer to the canon R6.
The only real fault I find in the s5ii is the awful placement of the hdmi, the little wheel on the top right corner, the lack of touch subject tracking and the crop on 60p
They were really close. Hopefully cameras in the future will all adopt the S1H/GH6 screen.
yes if he use lumix lens . s5 ii will get more points . major fail comparison
Great video, thanks.
Great review. I think a truer comparison would be to have a sigma 24-70mm on all three cameras.
Watched a million review video but this one really helped me
I use my cameras more for video, and went with Panasonic S5II.
The Canon is killing it. Luckily tons of ef lenses adapt perfectly
I have EF 85 f/1.4 L and with adapter it's nearly twice as big and heavy as Sigma 85 f/1.4 DG DN for Sony. Works well but it's simply not very convenient. This applies to many adapted lenses.
Sony is way better
Excellent! 👌
Very nice unbiased comparison 👏👏
Thank you!
