definitely the canon r8, but in this case the Lumix is for me. tried the zv-e1 for about a month and that was horrible for photography. and the mic for vlogging is not that good either. low light video is grainy as well. too expensive

What i do hope is that people see the interesting things sony is doing in the area of mic control, auto-framing and some of the other tricks they are adding its a start of something that can become very interesting it needs some tuning but it does work kind in many cases.
Sony ZV-E1 can overheat while recording 4k, has single sd card slot, worse raw detail, slightly worse video but better auto focus. So it's a trade on what you care. I believe for such a high price ZV-E1 should have 2 sd slots and have better heat management system, not to mention have more than 12 MP.
PANASONIC : PLEASE add a "shutter angle only" LOCKING OPTION in the Controls Lock Option menu. We ALL NEED it, and it just make all the sense in the world. Thank you!
Good to see that your still using the Noct weight comparison! Besides that I couldn't wait for its release, the battery life is one reason I have an S5II and didn't order the X. Since you need to use an SSD to get the best recording options, you can't use the USB-C port for powering the camera with a PD battery and use an SSD at the same time. When I am recording, I often do 5-6 hour shoots and hearing the battery life is just over an hour is disappointing. How did you test the battery life though? Did you start recording and leave it until the battery died? Or some other way? That would be useful to know. If that battery life is true for normal shooting you would need quite a few batteries to do an all day shoot whereas with one USB-C battery on the S5II, I can record and take photos for as long as I need without having to swap batteries by powering the camera and charging the internal battery from it and still have lots of battery life left at the end of the day on a large capacity PD battery. the X should have had 2 USB-C ports and one for USB-C batteries if you are meant to use an SSD with it.
My guess is in terms of Auto Focus, the Panasonic is only a firmware or two update away from putting it on par with the SONY to where that will be a draw.
When Panasonic wins a category Jordan says I have to give it to Panasonic, when Sony wins , Jordan says the winner is Sony, think about that the next time
One question. In comparing battery life, did you base the life span on leaving the camera ON the whole time? Or did you ever turn off the camera when you weren't filming? For me, I don't leave the camera on if I know I'm going to stop or take a break from filming. Great content, guys. Glad you're still around doing reviews.
When talking about image quality isn't there a moire issue with the Panasonic coming from it being sharper which may be why I think Sony uses lower megapixels for a more pleasing and result.
Then right after this the other guy made a comment that the Panasonic is a winner for photography. But again that makes it a loser for video if it's going to ruin the image with moire. Sure you might be able to compensate with a filter but then you'll lose focus.
haha. OMG, your videos are so funny and so positive. I just finished watching a Jared Polin review for the Z8, for the first time after years away from his channel, and it was difficult to get through. While obviously incredibly smart, Jared appears to have an obligation and agreement with Canon to avoid saying anything overly positive about any other brand. It's tough listening to a review when you can hear the constant bias that taints the entire review. A person's sour attitude can rub off on the audience, even when it's totally irrational. So I really appreciate you guys being non-biased, and not having an obligation to push Canon products.
There is no overheating issues with the S5 II / X since it has an amazing fan system which let's you record unlimited. From watching other reviews, the ZV-E1 overheats a crap ton.
@@fofophoDo you own and use the zve1? I live in South Florida and my zve1 is completely useable for me. If I’m doing long format shooting I use my a7siii (which doesn’t over heat at all). But the zve1 will shoot 4k30 for 30 min and 4k60 for 15-20 mins in the sun at 90 deg f.

You're trippin. LOL!
The Fuji XH2s would have been a interresting comparison. It has dropped in price a bit, so I was able to pick it up for a similar price to these two cameras. With the stacked sensor I can get the detail of the S5 without the rolling shutter drawbacks. (Would also be interrresting to see quality comparison inbetween APS-C and FF. But I have heard reports that the fuji DR is incredibely good and very close to the A7sIII, and a speedbooster will fix any potential low light drawbacks...)

Panasonic has chosen the right path here, a balanced and truly hybrid camera. Ergonomics is extremely important and not just the miniaturization that we cannot hold in our hands or without thinking about our hands. What I missed about the focus of the panasonic in front of the nikon z6ii and z7ii. Who's better?
Sony advantage for me is you can set up the look easily in camera and shoot it in 4k. As far as output options, simple is better. I just use adobe premiere Rush. I'm not going to spend forever color grading, I have audio to process. Panasonic for the freelancer but vlogger/utuber/travel doc I'd go sony. But I have an a6400 and it just works. That is an old 'crappy' camera by so many here yet the autofocus is very good, doubtful Panasonic can match it. Looking forward the the apsc release in July.
What about the overheating comparasion, or is the the Sony zv e1 overheats quickly? How low can it be usable for filming in 4k 24p in a hot environment, or summer?
In my view S5IIx is not a creator cam, not in the sens if you think about vlogging. Whit its body type and EVF etc. The ZV-E1 is lighter and more compact. The S5IIx is rather a photographer videographer gear who helps creating content, not for a one man army.
I got a zve1. So far so good. I’m a total noob though so I really don’t know. I just wanted the cheapest Sony full frame video camera because I didn’t want to pony up for the a7siii or the fx3.
I’m disappointed that the overheating issues w/ the EV-1 didn’t come up. 30 minutes of 4k before shutting down is unusable for any workflow I can imagine
Great video comparison! I’ve seen other channels talk about significant recording limitations on the Sony due to overheating. Did you experience that at all in your usage? The S5iiX has the built in fan so presumably no issue?

The Pana is so superior that a comparison does not really make sense. The only thing I like about the Sony: it got the advanced AF that my Sony flagship a1 does not get. Because relevant firmware updates for Sonys involve buying a new body. On this note: my old G9 gets more firmware updates than my a1. 👆
Thank god you guys found a new home! As a fellow Calgarian, I loved seeing our local environments. Oh and you guys too, I love you guys......but mostly just Calgary!
If you are just starting out and looking for a hybrid camera the Panasonic s5ii would be miles better than the ZV-E1, specially if you want to take photographs & shoot long videos. Even though the s5ii can't match ZV-E1's 4k 120 fps, I really wish the 4k 60 was uncropped. On the other hand, the ZV-E1 is a fantastic video camera for travelling, content creation, vlogging & short video clips here & there. Definitely aimed towards different users.
right - both great, but for different uses
I'm so glad to see you guys back in action !
S5IIX certainly wins for aesthetics. That camera looks awesome.
I totally agree. Panasonic's designs have always been solid, since the FZ-10 & FZ-20.
So nice to see Jordan in front of the camera instead of that other guy 😂 Great review!
I think you missed out recording times before overheating. These cameras have very different abilities in that category.
definitely the canon r8, but in this case the Lumix is for me. tried the zv-e1 for about a month and that was horrible for photography. and the mic for vlogging is not that good either. low light video is grainy as well. too expensive
Nice to see you hosting! Great job!
i personally am getting the Panasonic S5, because i think at it's price point it's the best camera for video, lemme know if you agree
S5iix
You know, if you a creator and shoot mainly for UA-cam , think about this. This guys shoot video like 10 years or so, the footage quality in the past 5 did not change much for me as a viewer. No matter what body they use. Buy by battery and ergos first.
Not sure how many other people noticed this too but I really liked on the old channel where the thumbnails have the video title too which made it easier to find the videos in my subscription feed
I thought Panasonic had the best preamps. What makes Sony audio better?
Zero interest in either of these cameras, but still watching all the way through because of what hooked me on both Camera Store and "our previous Amazon-owned channel"--Jordan and Chris both still know how to keep the balance of informative x funny. Bravo.
Amazing! Yes! Give Me Danger! You’re A Star!
I want a zv-e1x black on black ! but really as a A1 (among others) owner i added the zv-e1 for backup and because its small its a compromise but i am willing to make it. What i do hope is that people see the interesting things sony is doing in the area of mic control, auto-framing and some of the other tricks they are adding its a start of something that can become very interesting it needs some tuning but it does work kind in many cases.
Maybe you should buy another cam as back-up for the zv-e1. Summer is coming 🏜
@@Giovanni-Giorgio you better watch out your comment is smoking hot, don't worry about my cameras they will be fine...
Great to see you both back on a new channel.👍😊🇮🇪🇨🇦
Great to see you guys back, lesgo!
2 different types of creators, 2 different cameras
Horses for courses.
and the award for the fastest chattering youtuber in the world goes to: petapixel!
PANASONIC : PLEASE add a "shutter angle only" LOCKING OPTION in the Controls Lock Option menu. We ALL NEED it, and it just make all the sense in the world. Thank you!
Overheating problem is huge topic for pro user !!
“They're both good! Everything is good! Buy all the things!” So this is life in the PetaPixel era…
The autofocus dance is amazing
Good to see that your still using the Noct weight comparison! Besides that I couldn't wait for its release, the battery life is one reason I have an S5II and didn't order the X. Since you need to use an SSD to get the best recording options, you can't use the USB-C port for powering the camera with a PD battery and use an SSD at the same time. When I am recording, I often do 5-6 hour shoots and hearing the battery life is just over an hour is disappointing. How did you test the battery life though? Did you start recording and leave it until the battery died? Or some other way? That would be useful to know.
If that battery life is true for normal shooting you would need quite a few batteries to do an all day shoot whereas with one USB-C battery on the S5II, I can record and take photos for as long as I need without having to swap batteries by powering the camera and charging the internal battery from it and still have lots of battery life left at the end of the day on a large capacity PD battery. the X should have had 2 USB-C ports and one for USB-C batteries if you are meant to use an SSD with it.
hey buddy, what quality does the s52 record internally - which the s52x doesn't record. what quality ONLY on SSD in S52x?
Chris has really perfected his video autofocus dance.
Glad to see yall back 👍
And..... SUBBED! Great to see you here Jordan & Chris!!!
What is wrong with camera manufacturers with their low res main display? What are they smoking? Sony fitted a smartphone with a 4K screen. 🤦🏻♂️
That 8-bit intro reminds me of Nintendo and Mega Man👊😎
That was the idea.
Too bad IBIS section was so brief. Should have mentioned that Sony is likely to need a gimbal which will add to the weight significantly.
Which one is best for Point and Shoot + Cinematic Picture Quality >> Sony ZV-E1 vs Fujifilm X100V ?
My guess is in terms of Auto Focus, the Panasonic is only a firmware or two update away from putting it on par with the SONY to where that will be a draw.
I guess PetaPixel didn't hire Gordon ... 😉
When Panasonic wins a category Jordan says I have to give it to Panasonic, when Sony wins , Jordan says the winner is Sony, think about that the next time
Great video. I think in the next month I will order the Lumix
Also the Panasonic is slow to boot up.
@@Minsetti Maybe they can improve that with firmware.
The comparison I've been waiting for 😎
When talking about image quality isn't there a moire issue with the Panasonic coming from it being sharper which may be why I think Sony uses lower megapixels for a more pleasing and result.
Then right after this the other guy made a comment that the Panasonic is a winner for photography. But again that makes it a loser for video if it's going to ruin the image with moire. Sure you might be able to compensate with a filter but then you'll lose focus.
I use the EVF alot. Really gives the best handling when it is fast paced.
Wow that shot of Chris with the leaves was fantastic!
So I really appreciate you guys being non-biased, and not having an obligation to push Canon products.
chris's comment at the end was gold. more of the same!
Still happy with my R6mkII. I wanted 4K60p without a crop and it still doesn't overheat too quickly.
I'd be curious about the overheating / shoot times on both.
There is no overheating issues with the S5 II / X since it has an amazing fan system which let's you record unlimited. From watching other reviews, the ZV-E1 overheats a crap ton.
@@UltratecJS seems like relevant info for a video shooting comparison!
No doubt. The ZV-E1 is basically unusable in Florida (where I live and shoot).
@@ChrisMitchells_FlyingCameras people who post and complains about ZVE1 are non ZVE1 owners and are just parroting what those reviewers complains about. By having overheating and HDMI-Type D as the main issue for a camera of this size, I think Sony made a pretty good trade off.
Lumix S5ii X and Fuji XH2s, which one is a better deal?
My favorite part was when they discussed the low light performance and dinamic range
Wow, I can't believe you did a comparison of these two cameras! They're not even in the same ballpark let alone the same league. Maybe the SONY 7R V against the S5 llX would be a better choice. I know MANY OTHERs would like to see that! Good to see you two found a new home to hang your gear :)
Except, the S5iix and the ZV-E1 are the same price while the A7rv costs DOUBLE what the s5iix costs and has almost 3x the pixels/resolution, and that's a good shopper's comparison, how? I can't believe you'd suggest it's worthwhile to see them compare (in a 'VS' format) 2 TOTALLY different focused camera's for 2 TOTALLY different customers. Man, let that Sony hold that 'L'.. You're trippin. LOL!
Lol... thx for your take Sonyboy
I have an Xh2s and personally it’s just a fun camera to use, dynamic range in Flog 2, the film simulations, it’s just a fun camera that can do incredible things and I’ve never noticed the rolling shutter, just an incredible camera to use, also shot my feature on it too! Beast of a camera
And the new Fuji 1.4 lens are sharp as a knife!
Whoever approved the name S5 IIX is killing me. It looks like S5 8.
They named it after Elon Musk's son. I'm quite sure its same name.
Roman numeral for 8 is VIII???
@@dumm005 You are right. I am an idiot lmao. Still looks weird though.
So nice to see you like nothing happened !!!
If only the Sony had the viewfinder :c
It has. It's called the A7S3
@@Dexxter_slav A7SIII AF lacks, also the new features are top notch.
S5IIX has streaming modes too
I got a zve1. So far so good. I’m a total noob though so I really don’t know. I just wanted the cheapest Sony full frame video camera because I didn’t want to pony up for the a7siii or the fx3.
tell that dude to stop rushing you, you got all the time in the world! it's free, upload 2 hours.
Really beautiful colors on this video:)
I’m disappointed that the overheating issues w/ the EV-1 didn’t come up. 30 minutes of 4k before shutting down is unusable for any workflow I can imagine
They’re back!!!
Just buy a Blackmagic or Sony FX30.
Great video comparison! I’ve seen other channels talk about significant recording limitations on the Sony due to overheating. Did you experience that at all in your usage? The S5iiX has the built in fan so presumably no issue?
I'll take the one that doesn't think it has to dumb down concepts like exposure
Thanks so much for sharing another wonderful video like always, keep up with the awesome content 👍❤️🤗
At 7:12 the best autofocusing test is Chris's Jazz Hands.
ZV-E1 is for the vlogger with too much cash lying around, whereas S5 II is for the guy with a bit of brain to opt for a hybrid with option to take better photos than ZV-E1
The true competitor to the Sony ZV E1 should be the next iteration of the Panasonic G100
