Thank you for the thorough review. Interesting, the different phases leading up to the actual 5 mph shutdown. At least we know that when you do run it all the way down there is no code that has to be removed.
Thanks. I am in New Mexico and out of def. I have enough to get to a truck stop. I never tried but I will agree with you. If you idle then the regen will try to start which will trigger the 5 mph error. Also I assume if you will go loaded up the hill it will set at 5 mph.
I let it run out a few years ago, after all the mileage warnings it went into limp mode and wouldn't allow any throttle input, basically idled only. But I have a G56 manual so in 6th gear it was idling nearly 40mph with 37" tires. I refilled DEF and the check engine light came on. But it drove normally after that and reset itself eventually
Iknow I am late to the conversation. All DEF made has to meet API certification and that means the Uria and Ionized water ratios are the same no mater what brand if they are API certified.
Man I am dealing with the same problem now. Been to dealership five times about Def system ,replaced egr valve , def filter and mass air flow sensor check engine light back on now.
That’s interesting. I always wondered what would happen I just didn’t want to risk my truck to find out. I was always told that if you ran it without the DEF in it, you could damage the system and it would cost you a lot of money to repair it..
Thanks! My personal opinion as an engineer is, at the point of just switching to the 5mph next time you restart like I did in the video, is that there is still some in the tank so filling at that point didn't really change anything. If you keep driving without shutting it off, then all bets are off.
Personal experience with the Cummins Diesel and DEF.. Yeah it's a 3 year old video. But here's the truth! You can delete, unplug neg cables only so many times. Then you will be left at 5 mph like I was. And usually it's back to some jackass that used to let his Cummings sit and idle for hours. The main problem is the EGR chamber. And the damn NOX sensor. Is it crap? Yep.. all about money. But you can only delete the notice so many times and yes, you will be left on the side of the road at 5 mph! And it will cost about 2 to 3 grand.
Complete placebo effect or not making good records. SuperTech DEF is made by Old World Industries, the exact same maker of BlueDEF. You're paying $4-10 for that cardboard box. Besides, there's absolutely no difference in concentration if it's got the API certification.
I believe there are multiple suppliers of the Walmart DEF, including OWI and Smitty’s. I agree there was likely no difference between the brands and you’re fine either way.
Well just delete the whole def system and you wouldn't have that problem anymore and the truck would run way more better and better mileage and run forever
Not being a diesel owner just a question...does it do any damage to the def exhaust filter system running it without fluid at higher speeds or extended periods at 5mph?
I don't know honestly. I think the urea reduces NOx in the exhaust so I don't think it will do much to run without it for a while. Long term I could see it possibly messing up the catalytic converter though. It doesn't use much, like a gallon per thousand miles so it's truly a chemical conversion rather than a spray cleaning.
Also gmc now is making their trucks with Google maps in their computer. So now not just your phone will sell your data but also your vehicle will collect all information and they will sell it without our consent.

All I can say is DELETE DELETE DELETE!!!!
That's all folks.

Thanks. I drive a lot and always wandered.
We caught that, lol

Good information.
Simplier solution is delete the system all together
Wonder whether GMC Diesel will mirror the Ram. Guess only one way to find out, test by depleting the DEF. I'll let you know.
mmhiehn
Well, two years i've been a-sittin' and a-waiting for your results.
Pretty tight lipped . . .

i guess it is kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
@Ace Derrick ehh I would suggest flixportal. you can find it on google :) -kenneth
@Kenneth Arthur Thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) Appreciate it !!
I always fill my DEF fluid at truck stops because they always have the freshest DEF out there!!
Every two f!!!!!!ken years my Ram always says DEF call your dealership!!!!!!!!!!! I am getting tired of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mine did that once, but I gave it a swift beating and it stopped. Said it was the def pump pressure low. Hasn't come back yet anyway.
Your funny.
This system is BS!!!
Btw guys cut this sht off and the truck works fine. Even consume less diesel. But you can get big ticket in fck CA.

you just ruin your pump running it empty
?
