The early HyP games are wild! The first two books had 5 unique versions each (GBA, GBC, PS1, PC and Ps2/GC/Xbox) and each unique version was made by a different developer. The PS1 games were made by Argonaut (Star Fox) and the music for them was done by elder scrolls composer Jeremy Soule. Not to mention they're early enough to be based on the books rather than the movies so they take all kinds of weird creative liberties.
I could’ve sworn the first two books/movies got an N64 version, so they only got a PS1 game from that generation? You’d think Harry Potter would’ve fit incredibly well with the N64 audience.
@@AlexRN Developers and even Nintendo themselves seemed eager to leave N64 behind. In contrast, PS1 was STILL popular in 2001 (PS2 was also back compatible). Porting the PS1 version's voice acting to N64 would have been difficult too. They'd either need to cut the voices or use a large pricey cartridge, perhaps hire Factor 5 to help compress it. Probably more money than they were willing to spend.

The N64 version is kinda sorta port of the PC version in sense. Daikatana did Duke Nukem Forever and changed to Quake 2 engine almost as quickly as it came out and there exists a beta build of Daikatana that is based on quake 1 engine for the PC that some Daikatana fans (they exist) think warmly about. Turns out, N64 version was ported from that Quake 1 engine version and made closer to PC version but still include major map design differences, missing maps and so on. In fairness; he said these are not necessarily recreation of the same game but a game that captures the spirit of the main title and still have the same title. Daikatana actually fits that perfectly as your characters actually level through it's story and they enhance your FPS gameplay abilities like speed, damage, melee strength and so on. the style DK GBC is in and even includes GBC renditions of the same music that exists for original Daikatana is also funny.

Yes!! Love seeing the Harry Potter GBC games get some love! And you are totally right about the books essentially being strategy guides for the games. If you know the books, you'll know where Gryffindor and Slytherin's common rooms are and a lot of other geographical locations of Hogwarts. If I'm not mistaken, they even include the detail that you tickle the pear on the fruit bowl painting to get into the kitchens, even if that wasn't book info until like... three books later.
Custom Robo GameCube music... You fucking legend. I love that game.. Such an underrated gem. 4 player back in the day was crazy fun with my two older brothers and their friends...
Ah man I played the crap out of the GBC Chamber of Secrets game. I replayed it so many times up to the spider boss, which took me forever to beat. It was a huge difficulty spike for 6-7 year old me so i eventually got fed up and just started repeatedly replaying the game up to that point so i could have some variety. I eventually got to the basilisk but honestly I dont remember if I managed to ever beat it.
The GBC was an excellent system. Do you have any plans for the secrets of the infared sensor? The otherwise very underwhelming Mission impossible for GBC could probably fill a whole episode with all the useless junk it could do with that thing.
oh man I loved the Gameboy Color version of Chamber of Secrets! It was so much fun collecting all the cards and playing the minigames and leveling spells! I played it two or three times over as a kid!
Great video as always! PD is a let down only because of the lack of music in game. :( and before anyone goes and buys a repro cart or an official expensive PAL cart for Daikatana, you can download the rom for free from John Romero's website (last I heard.) Also, the comedy was on point this episode!
2:08 - It's true that Perfect Dark has an insane amount of fidelity for a GBC game, but a correction mate; it's a 32 mega*bit* cart, not 32 mega*byte*. Using megabytes, it's 4MB. Pretty impressive honestly.
There used to be a dev who worked on the Harry Potter GBC titles on the resetera forums (or maybe it was neogaf) and I remember reading in a thread that they absolutely loved working on those games because they weren't EA's primary focus at all since they were pushing the GBA and console versions. As a result, the devs were basically not micromanaged whatsoever by the publisher, and they were basically free to do their own thing, which was awesome since a lot of them were Harry Potter fans. That's also why they're closer to the books than the movies, since they weren't being micromanaged. I liked reading his stories about the game and I think he had even posted about a few Easter eggs they had hidden in them.
That sword-wielding dude named Musashi is likely a more popular member of Miyamoto clan and the one that referenced in Daikatana than the good ol' Shigeru

That "Hello fellow kids" edit pretty much sums up why I like this channel so much
"Don't you all have gameboys?"
I really miss the days of walking into a game store and seeing GBC/GBA games on the shelves. Great video as always guys, hit me right in the nostalgia bone with those Harry Potter games.
When I saw that Diablo GBC port announcement last night I knew I was in for something good. Great stuff as always!
5:10 "...trust me, it ain't tight like a zelda."
im onto you...
I love your channel so much! Thanks for all the content!
I had the HP GBC game - honestly, what an epic adventure it was as a kid. Really enjoyed it, so much content!
Great video. I love how you manage to get excited about everything and anything.
Glad you showed some love to the GBC Harry Potter games. I have _very_ fond memories of playing them extensively back in the day. Even mulled over Let's Playing the first one someday. Keep being awesome, buddy! Also, I may have to seek out the GBC port of Daikatana, because I love a good Zelda-esque game. :)
I got scared for a second bc I thought my $130 headphones were busted but it was just the sound on the video. Great video as usual anyways, Uncle D
This channel is so good that I'm re watching videos I've seen last year. And I don't really do that.
“Hey I’m Derek! It’s me Derek!”....looks like it’s Derek then.
Philosopher's Stone for the color was nice. But OMG Chamber of Secrets was PERFECT, even the music.
The GBC was an excellent system. Do you have any plans for the secrets of the infared sensor? The otherwise very underwhelming Mission impossible for GBC could probably fill a whole episode with all the useless junk it could do with that thing.
How the hell your comment is 1 Day old when the video was released few minutes ago? What kind of magic is it?
@@h.knight probably because he's a patreon supporter
@@chaospikes Is it possible? I mean the video is uploaded now.
@@h.knight the video was probably unlisted until a few minutes ago
I’d need to look into it! That might be a good topic but it also might mean we have to buy a bunch of equipment to test it.
For some reason I always hear your intro as "HI DEREK IT'S ME DEREK" which I like a lot more.
“Hey I’m Derek, it’s me Derek” love it
Indention is the archaic version of the modern Indentation
Glad to see Harry Potter GBC getting some attention! I loved Philosopher's Stone. Never got past Quirrel's Simon Says minigame though...
oh man I loved the Gameboy Color version of Chamber of Secrets! It was so much fun collecting all the cards and playing the minigames and leveling spells! I played it two or three times over as a kid!
5:57 god I’m breaking my head time and time again.
What’s the sweet sweet track playing in the background? I just can’t remember.
Me hearing the intro: "Hey Derek, It's me Derek, I'm Derek and you're Derek and this is Stop Skeletons from Fighting"
It's definitely indentation.
Indention is archaic 👍
Surprised that Metal Gear Solid on the GBC wasn't mentioned. Now that was an amazing port. 👌
Loved the editing in this video! Especially at 0:23!
The high production value in this video has me like :o
Amazing production quality on this episode
The world may have been finished with Daikatana, but Daikatana wasn't finished with the world...
I've come across that Perfect Dark GBC cart about two dozen times, and I have never seen one in person that has the battery cover.
I don't think I've ever seen a battery cover still on a GBC cart.
"It's fun, it's dumb, I liked it." Print THAT on the back of the box!
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on the GBA is ALSO an RPG.
I have Sorcerer's Stone on GBC. Still need Chamber of Secrets.
I've been looking for this channel, when i found it its AWESOME
