    Ghorst's 4 brothers and father all died to the plague of the blue rose (inspiring his expeditions name), which is why he started necromancy. After being driven from his village by a witch hunter, he carried his 4 brothers in a cart and left on an expedition to find a cure and revive his family, ending up bumping into Mannfred, who saw the madness in Ghorst and decided to teach him necromancy properly. Now Ghorst's expedition roams Sylvania, after "saving" his brothers, who are the zombies who now pull his bone covered cart.
    So ye, pretty sad backstory all around.

    • @Raiju2

      Do not let his sad story distract from the fact that he dodged a witch hunter by being ugly and smelly enough to be really good at playing dead.

    Ghorst as a whole is so funny to me. A character with one paragraph of lore, only gets choosen as a DLC character because GW didn't had faith in the game, was crap, then somebody had the incredible idea of making him a zombie comander and give him the ability of buffing one of the worst units in the game into an S tier unit, capable of fighting against some of the strongest melee armys the game has to offer. Ghorst has somehow found his spot as the stronger underdog after being a pathetic character, and becamed one of the most unique campaigns in the undead rooster

      @@lich109contact effects isnt the right word for it, Morris engine and the decay are both aura debuffs, if they were contact effects they wouldn’t do any damage to Ghorsts army because he gives all units “immune to contact effects”

      @@dornthememe7455 Neither of those abilities work unless you're making contact with the enemy (you have to be physically touching them to trigger them), so contact effects is the correct word for it.
      I'll need to check if Ghorst's skill works on Mortis Engines.

    In Warhammer 2 the tech made zombies complete free. Not just -35%, but -100%. They nerfed it for Warhammer 3, since a lot of players just made zombie stacks with different lords and you only had to pay the lords.

    You mentioned Comet of Cassandora, Lore of Fire, basically anything that nukes a huge amount of the field at once…
    Early-game, maybe. But once Ghorst gets his mojo going…no. Not even remotely enough to put down the rotting tide. I’ve seen a unit of zombies tank multiple casts of Imrik’s unique bombardment ability over the course of the battle and keep chugging. They heal faster than you can hurt them, and even if you manage to kill models they’ll come back to life if you hit them with Invocation of Nehek.

  • @Nightmare_52
    @Nightmare_52 3 місяці тому +17

    when ghorst got his rework and all the zombie buffs came out there was a problem with how their health was calculated and they had multiple millions of healing cap so much so that they could literally never be defeated, its somewhat less of a problem now but they are still terrifying to fight
    the only problem with playing ghorst is that almost all your battles will have to be fought manually because the game doesnt value healing cap but it does make the ai heavily undervalue your armies and not throw as much crap at you at once

    • @TheLegitWeebs
      @TheLegitWeebs  3 місяці тому +3

      Having to manual fight all the battles would def be a drag. Still funny to know that it's very viable tho.

  • @draconomega
    @draconomega 3 місяці тому +6

    6:25 It depends. There are 2 kind of direct damage spells.
    Ones that do single entity damage, like spirit leech, that when used will just target one of the models, once all the health is gone it jumps into another model until the spell is done.
    The other are multi-entities spells, for example, Flock of doom, They can be in an area of effect, being able to target more than one unit, or single unit targeting, which means it will only affect one unit. In either case, the spells will do damage to *all* models. You can know if a unit will be affected if they light up when hovering over them with the spell. Some of the multi-target spells will stop working once they leave the circle of influence, like the mortis engines or the Ghorst cart.
    Most of the time you will know which one it is by the description, looking back at the description of flook of doom it says : "Strong vs 120 men unit or above" this means that this spell will work against multiple entities at the same time, and you will know if they affect more units by the affected units description, in this case: "Affected units: Affects enemies in range(*all*)"

    The only change to his campaign is a bug that broke the healing cap, making it infinite. Otherwise the man strategy is keep mass producing zombies and make all settlements into money makers to fund even more to the point that even if someone can beat your army that there are so many that they get grinded down into nothing. Honesty it gets to a point that you print like 2 armies a turn by around turn 30

    I would like to note, that while ghorst DID make a ku'gath campaign a painful slog to get through, it was made worse pre-thrones of decay by the fact that ku'gath was the ONLY nurgle faction to exist (unless you count the warriors of chaos, who also had the plague mechanic for nurgle specific lords). That being said, with the one-two punch of more nurgle options and an overall buff to nurgle through both how their buildings work, better research, and their improved plague mechanic- ku'gath is a much more enjoyable experience compared to when this video was made. Ghorst is still just as strong, but ku'gath can pull his weight as a faction in a way he couldn't before. if you haven't played ku'gath out of fear of the experience, I would highly recommend trying him out. The ability to buff your armies and settlements (and at the same time have those exact same plagues weaken the enemy) makes the experience far more pleasant than you'd expect based on previous complaints about kugath.

    Direct damage targets one model or spreads its damage among models depending on the spell. (I think you can tell based on the tool tip saying good vs single or good vs 25 or above) vortex, wind, and breath spells damage each model they hit

    I remember talking about Ghorst and this very strategy in a comment oh so long ago. Glad to see we get to watch it in action. But to answer a few questions you had, yes this is still viable in today's WH3, and yes any bombardment or vortex spell/ability will hard counter this strategy (I have no idea how to counter the likes of Ikit or Elspeth with a pure zombie army).
    As for ability damage calculation, certain spells/abilities will only affect a specific number of entities while others hit everything in the unit. So Spirit Leach does heavy damage but to a single entity at a time, which makes it pretty weak against units with a lot of entities. However something like Ghorst's ability I don't believe has an entity cap so it's doing moderate damage to every single enemy model in range. Which means he does more damage to infantry blobs than he does lords or low entity count units like trolls (which is part of why Skaven are the first faction you fight, since their early units are nothing but infantry blobs)

    Something I noticed half way through the video, he’s not using healing spells, even though if he was he could be healing more and keeping more units alive so he wouldn’t be loosing entire units in most of the battles.

    Ghorst is kind of the personification of that old Skyrim meme, 'While you're X, the Draugr are training...'
    If you ignore Ghorst, or god forbid a Ghorst _player,_ they will make your life *HELL* because you just can't kill the bastard in any meaningful way and he will quite literally drown you in an ocean of zombies if he snowballs hard enough. And that's with this dumb zombie-only gimmick build; if Ghorst has access to his full arsenal, the ocean of zombies is just the most immediate threat.
    CA has to be careful that they don't overtune the Vampire Counts during their next big update, otherwise Ghorst is just going to ROFLstomp his way across the world, and even if he doesn't, he's going to make the Siege of Vraks look like a bike ride with all the casualties that are going to be inflicted.

    I'd argue that the title is accurate for him being most OP in the game, he himself isn't giga strong, but u can spam a tier 0 unit, that has no real upkeep, and churn them out like there's no tomorrow. You will grind out 99.99% of enemies due to regen and durability/poison, and you can just shrug off losing entire armies because it's so cost efficient nobody can trade effectively with you. You can really just slowly swamp any enemy in your path without being able to lose unless you try. The techs that buff zombies on top of Ghorst's faction buffs make them just an unstoppable tide.

    This strategy works well enough even with usual setup, and as Kleaper said - legendary battle sites (just kill half of army of zombies and kill the enemy - done) give more busted units, like Mortis Engines or at least Corpse Carts, and those are making this even more busted

    I really hope CA update the Vampire Counts' Bloodline mechanics, it feels a bit outdated, and the buffs you got in Warhammer 2 was a lot better than in 3. It also makes no sense Kemmler has the same mechanics as the rest of the Vampire Count factions despite not being a vampire. Hopefully he gets his own unique thing like they made for Gelt. Ghorst too.
    Also, they need to add Nagash. The first thing I'm going to do if they ever add him as a playable faction is make a beeline for Mannfred. Even if he's already been wiped out by Settra or Volkmar, I'll resurrect him. 8 years of "Nagash was weak! Witness true power!" Such sacrilege must be avenged. Violently. Also all that stuff in the End Times, but mostly for that one line!

    Helman Ghorst is not the strongest Legendary Lord in the game, that's absolutely an exaggeration. Gor-Rok with the Widowmaker, as a random example, is a lot stronger. Kleaper's math is also bad, the healing cap is 75% of your HP so getting +600% healing cap (including the tech bonus) means you heal up to 525% of your starting HP, which is still a lot, but you also cannot get more models in a unit than what you started the fight with. You are also right in that instant-kill spells ruin his strategy since any spell that deals more damage than a model has in HP will slaughter all the zombies.
