    I'm currently a tire tech who works at an America's Tire store. I work about 11 hours a day, and go to the gym for another 2 hours after work, all while going to college two days a week, taking 5 classes each semester. This job is physically exhausting, but I love it.
    And with pay, each store is different. There's a store in my area where all techs start at $12/hr. At my store we're started at $10.

      Vulgaris Magistralis Do you need prior knowledge of cars before starting? I kinda want to learn more about how cars work ect, by working there but is it something you need to know beforehand? Thanks for the reply

      Vulgaris Magistralis Thanks so much for this comment. I'm looking into working for this place. So far, the manager was impressed by my first interview. I'm trying to be lean. I graduated high school fat and got back into being fit after I just finished my first seasonal job. I've been afraid that a full time job would ruin that. I also want to get back into college. May I just ask about your diet?

      I'm looking into working at Discount Tires. I'm a little worried about the physical aspect. I don't see many women working at these jobs and while I'm somewhat fit, I'm definitely no body builder. I'm wondering if I should get a different job in the meantime, join a gym, workout a ton, and come back when I've built up some more muscles. Or I could just wing it and expect to be dead tire for 2 weeks and barely survive until eventually I get use to this kind of work. I'm not sure if I'd get hired or not, since I don't have much work experience and none in this kind of field.

    I've had a few bad experiences with the Discount Tire off 20th & East TC Jester here in Houston. A couple of times they didn't balance my tires correctly and it started shaking that evening and had to bring it back, I've had a couple of vehicles damaged and they denied doing it. I won't do business with that location ever again. It seems that's where they train all the new hires and management don't spend enough time training them properly and the turn over in employees is ridiculous.

    • @IceAge20017
      @IceAge20017 4 роки тому +1

      It's not the training that's bad. A machine detects balancing issues and tells the Tech's where to install weights. Sometimes the machine can get muddy and the sensors think it's a balancing issue when it's not and therefore makes the Tech's incorrectly install weights.
      And unless it's obviously the fault of the Tech's, they never take responsibility for damages because of all the fake people trying to get free tires.

    If you aren't the salesman type of person, there's no point in staying here longer than a year and a half or two. I started at $10/hr, not flat rate pay, part time employees (everyone who primarily works on cars is part time) max out at $14.50/hr. We are pushed to do every type of task from a regular rotation no balance, to changing 4 tires on lifted trucks with 35s within 15 minutes. People generally get raises based on how long they've been there except full time salesmen. It's a good place to start out and gain experience, but not worth it in the long run when you compare your pay style to how much your back hurts after a 36 hour week. Discount Tire seems to teach a lot of core values to their employees, but at the end, they just want profit, quality, and speed. But it's exhausting and painful to achieve in some cases.

      Myasa Man it’s hard if you make it hard that’s how I feel I’m 16 I’ve been working here for 4 months going on to 5. I’m doing 12 a hour and ok February it will be 13
      Yes they want us to do it fast but that’s why we have a teams it’s not all fours on 35s by your self you have guys helping you That’s what makes it easy. Yes you’ll get tired after a long day at work but it’s only hard if you make it hard. Also In the long run if you work your self up to a manger that’s 150,000 to 300,000 a year so yeah it is worth it i the long run. Once I graduate high school Im gonna apply as full time and start working myself up

      @@isnagoveryew-8797 You are young and have no clue what you are talking about. This is coming from someone who started at 16 years old and worked full time while for 8 years and moved up to crew chief, coordinator, 6th man all the way to senior manager and was offered a store manager job in a different state. Store managers have insanely high expectations and if you or your guys don't meet them you are done and demoted back down the 4th manager at best. It was a great learning experience as a teenager but it really does take a toll on your body over the years. Plus the fact that anyone and I do mean anyone from store manager all the way down to the new guy can and will have to get down on the ground and change tires even in your 40's and 50's no matter what kind of injuries you have. My 2010 Toyota Camry LE loves to be at discount tire nothing but shaking on the highway because of a balancing issue, rim bent or rotation not done correctly. I told them just now that I’m at one that I want it done right and I don’t want to keep taking it in to fix it. Not paying out of pocket thank god. This company can’t even do a single dam thing right. It’s annoying how I have to keep taking it back in for service with this car I own. I had to replace 2 tpms tire inflation sensors, then I take it back for balancing issues but I’m so annoyed at this point. I wish they could fix everything right the first time and not have to be in this position. I’ve been here 2 times already within the month of December. Then when it had the rotation I noticed it shakes on the highway, they moved tires that were in the back to the front and front to the back. I understand that part to even the wear on the tires but still. My
    Drivers side tire isn’t siting right. Why would my hubcap stick out more than the other 3 tires when looking on each side? All my tires are in good shape and rated at an 8 out of 11. This still happens to me all the time

    Not really New Jersey pay $14 an hour assistant manager and 5 years later I'm still busting my ass in the shop because of lack of workers due to covid and the lazy people that don't want to work half the time don't even show up for work and it takes about 4 to 5 weeks to fire them and each store is understaffed Discount Tire in New Jersey really sucks but I do it because I want to make sure Northwest New Jersey people's cars are safe and I'm 47 years old can't wait for my new job doing it just to be safe for others...
