People bashing him up for being slow didn't realize he is making a training video. Thank you sir for the information. Now I know what do they do with these machines in a tyre shop.
Lol. I have been changing tires too long. The ones I hate are the low profile. And certain brands are worse than others. And rims. Dont use those steel collates on those. You will shred the cover. And certain rims that have high lifts like telkien will make the day go bad really quick. I have been there.
Thank you so much for this video. Just started working in a shop and partnered with an old guy who’s complete know it all for a trainer. Doesn’t have the patience to train the new guy so I basically have to train myself. I was on this machine and he would get upset with me for failing to understand the process of how this machine works even though he doesn’t teach me. Anyways, thank you for making this process so simple. I’m going in tomorrow with full confidence after this video. ✌🏾✌🏾
Hey I just started working yesterday and I know nothing about how any of it worked I am always worried that it’s gonna blow up but it’s just a matter of being comfortable with it but I had the same problem this guy 2 or 3 years older than me who didn’t care at all to teach me because I knew nothing
Fuck those ppl absolute waste of space in a work environment anywhere thinking you’ll learn everything in one try is absolutely ridiculous and unrealistic sorry not everyone is a perfect genius like you like as if they’ve never messed anything up before good luck bro and god bless
Same, same and many if the techniques were not shown, note where his body is when using the lever to deal with the bottom bead of the tire to take it off, incredible. Some these mechanics are clearly not teachers.
Thank you so much, as a mechanic in training and using this machine for the first time today it's great to find a video that has the same machine to refresh as often as I need when I'm due to change tires.
Well done, simple explanation and demonstration of this process. My wife is a 30 plus year dental instructor, and was very pleased with the audio, the visual, the clarity of speech, and the rate of the instructors delivery. He gave the viewer time to digest his words and actions.

Thank you very much Dennis Miller... Great teaching this video is very helpful. I'm starting my new job as a Mechanic but I never changed a tire on a rim B4
Wow I was trained on the wrong side nice tip for luring the bead esp on truck tires, low profiles, and run flats, I stood there trying to take it off, he had more leverage on the opposite side!

i been in tle for like 3 days and still dont understand what to really do, This video did help but be mindful of the valvestems as they need to be in certain positions to prevent damage to tpms sensors. I was trying to see where you put the valvestems.
You should have used plastic rim protectors to prevent any scratching og the rim? And I too am just learning to use my tyre machine. I am taking my time and watching experts remove tyres, But a Nice machine.
You saved my life! I work at an auto shop and they have a similar tire machine. Now I know what to do! Took me 3 hours just to use one of these to change my tires out. But this time, it'll take me only 30 minutes to do this. :D
euonymus1980 clamping from the outside. How the table was made to do. It has a better grip on the wheel and less chance of slipping. And in cause of a slip it doesn’t scratch the wheel. If you clamp on the inside it can come loose while unmounting or mounting the tire and injure someone. And it could slip and scratch the wheel
Other then not talking about TPMs and how not to break them, since you can destroy them at the Bead Breaker, removal of tire and even putting a new one on. Also if your planning to get a new tire you don't need lube when your taking off tire since that just waste time and flat rate is all about speed.
if you need special instructions not to break the bead or drop the hook right where the valve stem sits, then maybe this whole vid is too complex for you to begin with. lube always helps and it's a good habit to get into. Myself, I prefer not to shred tires or break stuff when the 2 extra seconds it takes isn't gonna make or break anything. I'd rather do things the correct and safe way where nothing gets broken instead of the fast and furious way which ends up costing more money and possibly causing injury. Judging by your comment it would seem you don't share the same thinking.
Well Pep boys doesn't have tire techs so we get paid .25 each tire, so 4 tires is 1 hour at flat rate. I do them right I just don't care about the tire I'm taking off since it's getting replaced, all I need to care about is TPMs, it's a good habit to treat all tires as if it had TPMs. When breaking the bead Have the Valve Steam at 12 or 6'O clock (Note: not all TPMs are at Bottom of the valve stem there is thing called Band TPMs that are placed on the opposite side Valve Steam) It's also best when removing the tire after breaking the bead it's good idea to put TPMs right after the arm (about hands length away so you don't hit it) so you don't put unneeded pressure on the TPMs as it gets removed.
IF a tire is garbage maybe I could see your point. However that is not the case for tire patch jobs or swapping a set of wheels over to winter tires, which in my experience make up most of the tire jobs that come through the door at a dealership or tire shop here in Northern Ontario. From my experience which is mostly dealership, tire techs and lube techs are paid by the hour and are usually the ones doing tires instead of licensed mechanics.
got a job interview in a couple of hours for tyre fitting. they think I've done it before, but guess what? thanks for the video, watched it a few times and I'll let you know if I get the job. thanks again.
I noticed that he used the "expanding" clamp method. Won't this damage rims, especially the aluminum models. Wouldn't it be better to use the "clasping" jaws, preferably padded/protected to protect the rim from damage?
Dale Mullen You are correct Dave. In my tire shop, we only use the expansion's clamp on old steel rims. More often then not, we grip them from the outside. If we need to do a reverse mount, where the face of the rim needs to be gripped instead of the backside, we have rubber covers for the jaws to prevent damage. If all 5 spoke were damaged, that was from carelessness and or inexperience.
good video but you forgot to mention the adjustment knob on the side of the tower to keep tyre jig away from the side of the rim, also showing not have it too close to rim as will scratch
At 9:10 when you're adding air back into the tire, first unlock the jaws holding the tire! If not, there's a chance the tire will shoot up and you'll lose some arms and your head.
+DemonDue Sorry but by logic if jaws hold the wheel there is less of a risk. If it is not held there is more probability that it will junp and hit you. Please explain what you mean. Thanks
+Gregory May I've gone through 4 years of Auto tech. classes from 2 different schools and I work at Discount Tire, we've always been taught to unlock the jaws. when adding air back into the tire you want the jaws unlocked. When they're unlocked it won't shoot up because the psi isn't too intense for it to jump, (tires & wheels have a great mass) and that's the same reason why a tire doesn't go flying when you take out the valve core. When the tire is locked on, there's 2 forces acting upon the tire going opposite ways. That's what I remember from those days. Also, on the tire machines there's warning signs and pictures to unlock the jaws before filling up. I hope what I said made some sense because I totally understand why you'd think that because what you said makes sense and we wondered that too when we first started training.

+DemonDue You must be a very shiity tech at discount tire. while I always unclamp my tires first its because I dont want to have to fight with the tire to get it off the clamp after it seats. Leaving it on the clamps after it has fully seated will never send the assembly flying in the air.
