Thank you for letting people know that you can be Latino and black. Lots of people out there don't know that Latinos come in all colors. I'm Puerto Rican. My dad is light-skinned afro Latino. My mom is white Latina. I got a Cuban friend of Asian descent. I have South American friends who are indigenous. Most of us out here are just mixed race and proud of our ethnicity.

Similarly; "Latino isn't a race, it's a culture". That _blows the minds_ of people in the US because to them "latino" means "mestizo", which although common and related, specially in their region, isn't always the case across Latin American. You can be latin and white, black, brown, asian, native american, semitic, whatever. You grow up here, you live or carry our experience, you are it.

I'm Spanish from my father side. That side from the family is from Northern Spain, with Celtic heritage and never conquered and everyone there _is_ pretty darn white.

Yeah man, I hate when people try to put race on Hispanic people(white Puerto Rican here)because Hispanics aren’t even a race or considered a race by specialists who study genetics. The most we can be considered is a sub ethnicity since most of us are connected by language and culture but not by skin color. We do have actual Mexico in the show however, literally the first episode takes place in Tijuana and it’s a reference to migrants, border patrol, smuggling and risking your life looking for opportunities, etc etc its a real poignant criticism towards the migrant policies of America and it was done by a japense dude in the 90s, ahead of its time all things considered.

Honestly as a Latino who loves SA2 and the Sonic franchise. This the first time hearing about Shadow and Rouge being latino.
Shadow no idea, but I have always seen Rouge as a black coded character. Now I am picturing Rouge as Kali Uchis and it makes sense!
Thinking about it now, I wouldn’t say Rouge is TOTALLY black coded. More so like afro latina
2:45 as cool as it is to base a sonic character’s race off of the animals that they’re based on, it kind of doesn’t work when you consider characters like Knuckles. Knuckles would be either Australian or from New Guinea if we’re going off of the animal he’s based on but people don’t really code him such. (Which is totally fine.) Although in some of the comics he could probably be seen as Australian coded but that was during the reign of that one notorious writer. In all honesty I think it would cool to see him coded as an indigenous Australian, since there’s hardly any indigenous Australian representation when it comes to animated media. Of course I’m not an indigenous person so I can’t really speak on their behalf and besides in the end he could end up being a stereotype.

@@MysticTech yeah I know. When it comes to comic part I probably should’ve wrote possibly instead of probably and I’m pretty sure that’s what I originally wanted to write. But at the time I couldn’t think of the word and just went with probably, either way I wasn’t trying to claim that he was just that he could potentially be seen as such. And with the Indigenous Australian part I probably should of wrote interesting instead cool. Because an Indigenous Australian coded Knuckles would be interesting. Obviously it’s (most likely) never going to happen but doesn’t make the idea any less interesting. Not only would be fun way to reference a country the real life animal is from but like I said there’s hardly any Indigenous Australian representation in media. (I know I technically said animated media but actually it’s pretty much any kind of media.)
One interesting thing about Luffy been brazilian is that it puts a little more sense on that theory that he is blood related to Rocks D. Xebec.

So weird seeing people retroactively make excuses to feign a deeper connection with a fictional character than is being presented by the creators. To each their own but most mfs who talk about coded characters are so tribalistic it hurts. At least you have tame reasoning, even if evaluation of characters you want to be coded to be like you is strange. Its still a semi-fun discussion.
i just do it for fun honestly. If i was wrong and all these characters are just Japanese i wouldn’t mind id still like them the same to me the research section is the most fun for these videos. I got one more and then im done with this topic
@cashchiico I assumed it's just topics for fun. It's actually really interesting seeing all the similarities found between behaviors of those from different cultures and how it connects us with certain characters. Being able to identify with a character who is nothing like you is a pretty cool feat of accomplishment for those who made the characters. It is pretty cool to see a little bit of yourself in a character made on the other side of the world. It's a testament to how well-rounded most anime characters are for people to be able to connect with them on a deeper level such as this. It's an interesting topic for sure.

Pushing american stereotypes that asians cant be cool without being something else lmfao. Gojo is a lightskin, latino, or black somehow. Goku is apparently latino, denji is apparently latino.
Seen people say han from fast furious is only cool because his step dad was black.

As a Mexican, I really only have like 3 Anime characters that I think are way too Hispanic coded for their own good:
-Goku for obvious reasons and my dad made me watch that shit all the time when I was 5 back in Guerrero and dawg seriously reminds me of my alcoholic Tio Beto
-Stocking from Panty and Stocking, for no real reason but she just has that inexplicable light skinned latina energy
-And Maki Harukawa from Danganronpa because her VA is Mexican, plus girl has the MOST HISPANIC ASS pigtails ever 😭
