@@kkmac7247 there is 2 fast acceleration one that rta can do but only at certain place and the 2nd one that rta cant do is the one that need you to press left and right on the same frame which can only be done on tas
It's interesting, you can see how tight Kosmic's 8-4 was since he closed some distance between the other 2. You can also see how Miniland's fast accel gave that tiny lead of Niftski. Only complaint is that Badabun's amazing run wasn't up here for comparison.

Incredible! We talk a lot about saving seconds, frames, frame rules, etc, it's nice to have a tangibly visual indicator of what these really mean. Also, the fact that the TAS couldn't even pull ahead until 4-2 is incredible, really puts a strong point on how skilled these players are, and how refined this run is
I clicked on this thinking it was going to be a normal 4 screen comparison video, but even a second in I was blown away by the concept and quality of this idea. This was incredible to watch. Keep up the amazing work!
I have a (distant) background in image processing and as I was watching I was thinking about how I’d approach doing this. Learning you wrote the software at the end was a wonderful surprise. This is excellent work.
This was really cool. This video made me wonder how SMB speedrunning would look like if framerules didn't exist at all, basically every frame counts from start to finish.
Incredible visualization of these minute differences between runs! It's often so hard to tell by watching one run whether or not it's on pace anymore. I definitely hope to see more of this technology!
This is just fantastic work, well done so far! Really gives a good view of the actual time differences. Do you think there's a good way to differentiate which enemies belong to which mario? I think it'd work great as is, but could get a little busy if you had several players racing.
I've considered this a bit, opacity is kind of nice - but I have another idea which involves outlining the sprites with the players main color. I'd like to give it a try when I'm looking at eight runners at a time which is my current target. If it gets really busy, well - that's kind of part of the fun. But you're right I need to strike a balance!
Yea I think in a 2 person race this would be great or a race where racers were further apart but I think putting in 4 outlines/shades for this would just make it more confusing.
Your project sounds like such a big service to the community! Races that can be combined with your software could be really fun to watch. Best of luck with it!
The reason I usually hate watching speedrun races is because I can't focus on multiple screens at once. This solves a lot of my issues with that having a single screen to watch.

The fact that the speedruners were able to keep up with the tas for a while shows how good they are
The frame rule at the end of each level helps keep them artificially closer, but it is still awesome
pretty much the only reason that tas was ahead was because of the fast acceleration that tas can use over the runner
Nowadays the TAS makers are usually the ones to discover new tech and pass it on to the RTA runners.
