The reason those ones are slimmer are bc they're meant to be top mounts of a "go bag" like over-hand handle packout toolbox. It has to be thinner on the sides to allow clearance for that handle

Internal sorter boxes are available for purchase - note the screw/nail hanging slots on the internal sorter boxes( pause around 8:37 and look above his left index finger ) - excellent for having grab and go mounted on a pegboard or the wall in a shop to swap out. I keep SS, green, tan etc in extra bins then swap into the Packout based on my job needs.

The large slim is great. It is too bad that a 12” recip blade doesn’t fit in the center. Don’t cut the dividers in half. Cut a groove up half of each with a multi-tool and nest them together. Nice videos.

It's a good trade off to keep your small parts in place

There’s a video on YT where to cut the dividers to fit as 4x4 in the small containers

I would guess the black ones are wider because they are much more sturdy, and if you were to bump it into something while wheeling it around you would rather the impact hit the black lids than the clear ones

I could be wrong, but about the size of the half width low profile cases...it seems to me that they're the maximum width allowable to make them ambidextrous. Any wider on either side and you couldn't mix & match left or right side placement. Is it just me?

Great videos! Thanks for doing this. I am in same boat as you. I am a DeWalt tool guy, Canadian and also heavily invested inToughsystem 1.0 and a bit 2.0. But, I am going packout. I am trying to divest my tough system in order to purchase packout. Is so so expensive. I have toughsystem wall racks, and the heavy trolly, which is as good as that system gets. And it still pails in comparison to packout. Please keep the awesome content coming. Cheers

I suspect they are smaller to prevent bumping them and mixing fasteners together. I like you asking for cruciform capable dividers.

These small parts containers survive the shake test and will definitely not mix fasteners together when bumped. I suspect the reason the clear lid boxes are smaller than the black lid boxes is to create two different storage systems; one for big and heavy tools (the black lid box) and the other for small and light parts (the clear lid box). That also discourage you from stacking a big heavily loaded box(black lid box) on top of a lighter duty box (clear lid box) to avoid breaking the clear lid.

Ok H&H. Some friendly constructive criticism coming your way with all respect as I totally think your chan is great and I really appreciate your proffessional perspective. Respectfully the Stanley boxes are Not garbage. Lets be fair. Their quite a bit less expensive then the Milwaukee packout boxes and they have more bin capacity and variation. I have and prefer the Stanley Sortmaster over the Stanley style boxes you have because I can take out dividers for really long bolts, screws, bits, and or tools. Ive got about 20 of the Sortmaster boxes and also like that they clip together as I also store them on a shelving unit in my trailer. I dont even want to think about what I would have to spend to buy 20 packout boxes and then they wouldnt even work for me as I have lots of hardware bolts for my outdoor structure builds that are 4" to 7" long. I set up hardware kits for each of the different playset models and gazebos I build and I havent found any other sorting box that works better then the Sortmaster for my needs. I also have 6 of the Stanley boxes like you have and like them as well for projects when im wanting to just pull out one of the bins full of screws and carry it over to an area where Ill be installing. One quite important point about the Stanley boxes for me is that they work well while also Not breaking the bank like the Milwaukees would for me. I used to be able to get a 2 pack of the medium Stanley Sortmasters for $9.99 on sale and most of the time the would cost $6.99 individually and their large sortmasters average price was $9.99. They are of course probably not going to be as durable as the packout sorters and dont lock to a tool box system. But can we agree that the Stanley boxes you have and any other sorter box that does have occasional hardware travel isnt garbage. I mean you gotta treat the cases pretty rough or over fill them to get hardware mixup in my experience of using the the Stanley boxes like you have and the Sortmasters for over 10 years. They do break but everything breaks when accidents happen and I dont cry myself to sleep when I have to replace a $7 to $10 dollar case compared to a $20 or $30 case. Not saying Milwaukee cases are bad at all, their attachment system is awesome. But they are Quite expensive for what they are imo and there are other less expensive options like your Stanley boxes or the Sortmasters that I think compare quite well and are a better value imo. Oh and lastly I smiled when you were talking about the Milwaukee cases not matching in width. One of the many reasons I enjoy your chan is because you've got a keen eye for the details of functionality👍

great points Sean, I think you are definitely right with milwaukee being more expensive than pretty much all other cases out there. That's the main reason i never got into them from the beginning. i will always use my other screw boxes and don't intend on replacing them with milwaukee. just a couple ;) I think my frustration with the stanley boxes was getting to me that week. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!

@@hammerandhome Always enjoy your vids H&H👍 And if ya got the moolah the packout is a pretty sweet organizational platform. And I totally agree that it does connect better then both Dewalt tough systems imo.

Hello H&H hope you are well great video looks like you have done your home work and you come up with a lot of good questions like the size of the boxes when put on the other packouts yes why do Milwaukee not make them all the same 🤔 the Half size boxes l like but when you say about taking the small boxes out and use for something else well ok but what can I do with the small boxes 🤨 getting on too the dividers it is not good that Milwaukee didn’t make the big boxes with dividers it would make sense l it would be a good idea to ask jakeofAll if he could come up with a 3D divider the same way as the small boxes like l said you have done your homework and given me a a lot too look at just one more thing and I know you can’t do anything about this but why Milwaukee give you chaps the red boxes and us chaps in the uk 🇬🇧 get black red is Milwaukee colour thanks for your video and stay safe 👍👏👏

Rumor is that another company has a design patent on red mobile tool storage in Europe specifically, but I forget which company that was.

You only need to drop a crappy organizer one time full of small bits n pieces to know why it’s worth it to upgrade to packout.
