It's the basis for ketosis. Even in Islam, we're meant to be careful about our eating. The thing is, a lot of us emotionally eat even though we know what's good for us. I haven't been able to do intermittent fasting after shahr Ramadhan due to sugar addiction and emotional eating. So there's various factors. Cortisol needs to be very low in a woman as well.
Fasting has been the best thing I’ve ever done for my health & well being EVER! I just wish I’d known about it sooner. It’s changed so much for me. Menopause symptoms gone, no more bloating, skin dryness gone, no more aches & pains, weight loss, a constant feeling of contentment, serenity & positivity. Improvements in confidence, energy, rationality & brain function. I’ve always exercised & tried to eat well but fasting is on another level. It has done for me what no diet or amount of exercise ever has, I honestly feel there’s something deeply spiritual, magical & almost supernatural about how it works.
It is. Fasting is very spiritual. In the BIBLE it always talks about fasting, especially when needing to rid negative spirits from around you. It’s a blessing! I’ve witnessed the power of fasting! And it came immediately as well!
Breakfast is the important meal of the day because how you BREAK - YOUR - FAST is particularly important. It doesn't matter what time of day you choose, but what you choose to eat right after a fast that matters.
From experience my mom insisted for me to have something to eat before school and I can say I have even now after many years no ulcer or gastritis. So during growth I would say breakfast is important. Also she didn’t let me do any diet during my teens but she was careful to not eat after 8pm, also the food was always made in the house and healthy food, like eggs from farmer and meat as well, no pasteurised milk etc I had my first MacD when I was 14 ✌🏼 so yey mom you are the best ❤
During growing years children should have food. My kids eat a big breakfast, not cereal or poptarts. But when you become an adult, cycling becomes important.
I did 17hr fast today (not intentionally) I’m just trying to go long periods without eating but I can honestly say, I feel so much better, mind, body aches and after I had a meal I haven’t eaten anything since. I’m going to really try my best to continue to do this.. Greatest video I’ve seen on fasting cuz she tells you so much about the healing parts.. love this video ! Thank you for showing ❤
Working out in the mornings after a 13 hour minimum fast for the last 6 months , strength gains, muscle recovery, and focus, great results, my cholesteral dropped to under 130, and blood sugar has returned to under 100, no inflammation, the most amazing result, no body aches, full flexibility. It is true, it's been a personal testing on myself, and it works.
I would like to learn more. About this. Like what kind of fasting, what time? Does sleeping count? I'm gaining weight and I can't stop. I eat just to eat, because I think I'm supposed to have 3 meals a day. Can you provide some detail please? Thank you
I can confirm this statement, I haven't worked out other then walking for 8 yrs after the military. Always been moderately in shape. Got lazy and fat 230lb. Started carnivore, 16 hr fasted workouts. I've dropped 20lbs, can run 8miles no problem, back to squatting 315, benching 250, feeling amazing. Brought testerone up from 350 to 550. 41 and finally starting to feel better. All within about 2 to 3 months. Wish I would have learnedn this in my 20s. Everyone needs to try this

I've been doing fasting 15:9 for 3 weeks so far. Not been too hungry. Definitely feeling clearer and not so foggy in the brain. Been falling asleep easier as well with less physical pain.
I did intermediate fasting for several months and I have never lost weight so fast. In the beginning, I was eating everything, just keeping the window. I don't know how it works, but then my body wanted to consume only healthy food, no bakery, less sugar. But that moment I was jobless, and it was so easier to keep fasting
I see so many children not really hungry before going to school, but are forced to eat by parents, most often the wrong foods, foods that are not good for them.
It makes me so sad when I hear this. My father in law died of cancer a few years ago, it went very fast. During chemotherapy the doctors kept say that he should eat all the time to keep his weight up. He felt horrible every time he had to eat but he forced himself to do it because the doctors said so. I wonder how it would have gone if he had been fasting instead?
I do believe this may be most efficient in the early stages of cancer, of course in the last stages too, but in my opinion, the sicker and weaker the body gets, you need to eat to make sure you have the energy stores to heal. What I've seen, on the internet at least, is that many cancer patients in the Terminal phase are very thin. I don't know where they could burn any more fat from, so they start using muscles for energy instead. This thing makes them weaker and less likely to move, which just amplifies the depression, sadness and all the bad things they go though. My professor has told me there's been research that cancer patients do have a much better prognosis if they stay positive and active
unfortunately doctors don't heal they just treat. it's unfortunate sorry for your loss. I wouldn't trust doctors other then to x Ray and diagnose not to heal
Been doing 16-20 hrs most days.. i can say it certainly works. It helps if you cut out bread, rice and pastas etc and add extra healthy fats n protein..
@@hms9891actually, she’s replacing simple carbs with healthy fats and protein, which isn’t reducing calories. What she’s doing is phenomenal for health (combining some healthy food swaps with intermittent fasting). Calories in/calories out has been proven time and again to be an ineffective way to lose weight and maintain the weight loss.
@@hms9891 No, honestly look into this, someone eating 2000 cals a day every day to lose weight wont get anything like the benefits (including fat loss and keeping it off) of eating 4000 calories every other day or even 6000 calories every third day. Same amount of calories overall, not nearly the same benefit to the body. Not to mention you dont slow your metabolism down in the same way as just eating the lower calories day after day, becuase every other day (for example) you are eating lots of food. Its about hormones, insulin and growth hormone mostly but also being in ketosis. This isnt bro science, internet crap, either! It completely aligns with human biology and evolution. If we had evolved for your bodies to consume food every day (let alone 3 meals, snacks, milky coffees each day) we wouldnt still store fat so easily would we, fat storage is a survival mechanism so clearly we havent

Great talk. I used to be very tired at work the whole day, not knowing why. I tried different foods e.g. eating proteins in the morning. That didn't always work. Then I tried keeping track of my cycle. That wasn't it either. Then I noticed that when I don't breakfast, I have am not tired anymore.
One Meal a day seven years now. As a teen I practiced omad without even realizing till I started eating three meals a day like everyone else, just because it's what I was 'told' was normal by doctors and peers. Since being back on OMAD I'll never turn back. Healthy weight, 30 inch waist, not bony, strong, feel great and general wellbeing plus can't remember the last time I was sick.
I love the app I have helps me keep track. I usually do between 16-20hr fast and will start 24hr 1day a week. I’ve lost 7.7kg in 2months with fasting because I’m doing it naturally and gradually it will definitely stay off. I’m very blessed to have Dr Mindy videos & my mother who are great educators and inspirations when it comes to fasting/healthy eating! 🙏🏽🌹
Ive been doing 16 to 24 hour fast. Exercise, drinking tea like hibiscus, green, and rosehip using pure stevia powder. I've lessened cravings for carbs and sweets.
Stevia is an all natural sweetener compared to other sugar substitutes it’s better for you. What Is Stevia, Anyway? Unlike other zero-calorie sweeteners-sucralose, aspartame, saccharin-stevia is not artificial. It’s a plant named stevia rebaudiana (sometimes known as candy leaf or sweet leaf) thus making it a natural sweetener. Stevia leaves are about 200 to 300 times sweeter than sugar, which means you need very little to sweeten a food or drink.
Very informative! This is the best information on fasting I've seen in a long time. She explains so much that I was confused about and she says it in plain language that even i can understand. great job!
Agreed. I’ve watch a lot of videos on the subject, but I’ve found fascinating how articulate and straight to the point she is and how easy it is to understand. It’s like in just one 30min exchange she helped me connect all the puzzle pieces in my head
I've been doing a 36-48 hour fast once a week, and for the most part one meal a day in between since the 20th of December. I'm down 10lbs as of this morning. This works. I'm still new enough at this that the longer fasts take some will power at times, but the results have been extremely motivating.
I've been fasting for 3 years. I promise if you make it to 48 hours it's the most difficult part. 72h to 120h fasts are sooo much easier than the 48h ones. It took me 2 years to realize I was always doing the most difficult part over and over again.
I have learned by listening to two videos. I don’t know if I could fast for 36 hours?! I’m 64, post menopausal and have had a chronic illness for over 12 yrs. The illness has lost a lot of its’ initial 5-6 yr punch which gives me hope! I naturally fast 20 hours a day, but I’m overweight and I don’t exercise. Over doing housework has the ability to cause a flare, then I’m in bed for a day. I think I’m commenting in the wrong video, but I wanted to thank you for your educational tips! I’m going to attempt changing when I eat a healthy food and see if my body reacts by dropping weight. I’m also going to attempt not eating after 8:00 at night, which is difficult for me. I’m not a snack hound non stop at night, but I have a very bad “cereal and oat milk at 12:30 a.m.” habit. How long does it take to change a bad habit? Is it 30 days? I’ll have to check that out. Thank you again for this video Dr. Pelz! Much love to you and your family!😊❤️
Great presentation! The body is a truly amazing creation. When considering the complexity of a single cell, one realizes the theory of evolution cannot be correct, the body could not have been the result of a random “bang” it’s way too complex. This amazing group of cells that work together to respond to fasting point us to divine creation of the human body by God, the creator of heaven and earth. Our job is to care for the creation and fasting is one way to do it. Interesting that the concept of fasting comes from the Bible too. Excellent explanation of how fasting affects the body Dr. Mindy.
If you're not fasting for 1 full day once a week you should be fasting for a minimum of 72 hours once a month. The body needs a break from digestion. It's that simple. That's it.
Been doing prolonged fasting since 2019 and can confidently say it's life-changing. My bro forwarded me this video earlier and after watching it, I feel so vindicated. Everything I've been praising about prolonged fasting for years was mentioned, down to autophagy (which literally means *self-eating* btw!) and how our ancestors would go days without eating because they had to go out looking for food. Currently about 24 hours into a 60-70 hour fast right now and while it's always a challenge, seeing content like this only energises me. Thank you and well done to the good doctor!
The term breakfast is an old term from the times of daily forced fasting, where people did not have permanent access to food and had to fast - so this was natural and in the morning, when they went out to gather/prepare food they were breaking their fast, hence the term break-fast. After they had eaten, they once again had to fast until the next morning, when they were forced to hunt/gather food and break-fast.
And even then being able to do that every single morning is still quite recent in human evolutionary terms, for thousands of years before that our species would have regularly gone several days without food
It's really hard but I miss water fasting. The longest I've gone was 10 days. By day 3 or 4, my mind felt so completely clear, and my body was calm and energized. I after thst fast I would do a 24 hour fast every Thursday. It was awesome. I miss it.😭
@@blessedlife7260 IME it is harder to get back to longer fasting once you stop. I’d say it takes about a week of fasting, to get back to where you feel better and not hungry all the time.
@blessedlife7260 I was spending to much time around my brother's sister. And instead of being able to block out her claims of me being anorexic, which I have never been (I do have a food addiction and BED, which is why I took up long term fasting to break the addiction and it helped a lot!). I will shift to OMAD a few days a week I think and then slowly remove some of those days to water or bone broth fasting. It is harder for me to get back on it because I am eating more processed (addictive) food than I did before I started originally.

I had crohns/colitis/inestinal inflammation. It was so bad that they put me on a TPN line for 30 days to see if it would help. It was a last resort before opting for surgery. Antibiotics did not help, they actually weakened my gut immune system even more. Excessive antibiotics is terrible for your body! TPN is when they put a feeding tube in your arm above your elbow that more or less goes to a main artery near your heart. Every night (at home) I'd hook the line up to a feed bag of fluids (either electrolytes & vitamins or healthy fats). The fat bag looked like milk, the vitamin bag looked like a pee-ish yellow color. The fluids would slowly go into the tube in your arm overnight which was controlled by a pump. In the morning you would then disconnect it. This provided ALL the nutrients your body needed. I was not allowed to eat or drink ANYTHING. a sip of water here and there was acceptable if you were feeling parched. The first couple of weeks I still got very strong urges to eat even when i know i wasnt hungry. Its crazy to realize that my cravings to eat wasnt caused by actual hunger, its caused by decades of bad habit. My mouth wanted to chew and swallow food 3 times a day! You still have to pee, and you still get the urge to poop, but the poo was very light & grainy as if it were unused stomach acid/vitamins. After 30 days they did a colonoscopy and noticed that the inestinal inflammation was gone. I wish our society focused on preventing health issues (proper diet and eating habits) instead of just using temporary expensive bandaids (surgery & big pharma drugs). I am a firm believer that a 12+ hour daily fast with a good balanced diet can cure a ton of chronic diseases. Theyve been telling me for years that Crohns is uncurable.. I now believe it can be prevented altogether, we just need to break these terrible habits that were brainwashed into us by consumer advertising.

It definitely worked with weight loss for me. I've been doing intermittent fasting for the last 6 months and my weight has dropped down to 92 lbs, even thou I eat a fair amount during my eating window. However cause I am a little underweight now I'm going to give it a break but I'm definitely going to go back on it because I find that I have alot more energy during the day when I do fast and I sleep better at night, plus my skin looks great as well :) 100% recommended it
14:56 I am guilty now. I've been doing 16-8 fasting, working out in the mornings on fast. BUT i pop one or two almonds before my fasting window ends. I will try to do a strict fast from now. Regardless, this method works the best. I am seeing myself fit and energetic after many years again
As a Muslim, when she mentioned about the joy we have after fasting… it is true and mentioned in our religion “Islam”, when we break our fast it’s a moment of joy and happy and we should acknowledge and celebrate it. ❤
Fasting helped me realize how much I was eating and the triggers that caused my cravings. I didn’t lose a ton because of stressful times, but I didn’t gain, either! I still like giving my system a rest, not eating after 8:00 and delaying break fast.
Hmm. I have a different take on this which works really good. I totally agree on the fasting window. The benefits we get out of fasting. The mental awareness that you get out of fasting. The preferred window I follow is the eating window which starts around four or 5 PM until eight max because being faster during the day helps me stay sharp. I can focus better. I can work better. I had a lot of brain fog before which I had no clue the reason behind it, but after intermitted fasting and having my last meal at 8 PM and the very next meal, 5 PM, help me a lot.
Ten years ago I did 12 days water fasting. First two days where hardest and challenging then after three days it was much easier. Then after one week I started wondering do I really need food? I thought that I don’t need food but it was ketonins that started to supply energy to my body. My memory became extraordinarily sharp. I could memorize anything I heard, read. It was like I completely changed. My wife she started earlier so she did 26 days. She did fasting because of her Hashimoto condition. It’s thyroid’s. She stopped taking her medicine for several months. Since then she occasionally practices fasting. Fasting is a real things people!
As eastern societies took up western model of lifestyle , we forgot the wisdom of the ancient knowledge. I think almost all eastern religions advocate fasts on a regular basis.
I've heard this stuff on Dr. Berg channel, and indeed it is all very interesting. Am doing Intermitent fasting now and then, but can not bring myself to do 24 hrs Fasting yet, lol. We'll see.
You can do it!! It's not too bad. Do a Day 1: eat breakfast and lunch, stop eating around noonish, Day 2: eat only dinner or lunch and dinner, but not until after 1ish. Then it's pretty easy to go to a 36 hr fast. Day 1: normal eating window/stop eating at 7 or 8 pm. Day 2: no food. Day 3: return to normal eating window/start eating after 8 or 9 am. I've done both a couple times, and in my experience, it got easier, but stayed a bit mentally hard. I just FELT like I should be eating, but the hunger pangs were transient and bearable.
Ohh I remember I did intermittent fasting, eating for one day only. It gives me energy but I went back to my.old habits of eatinh tons of food periodically.
I get it very fascinating I am Muslim I fast Every year but I never lose weight. Maybe I eat wrong food. fry. And I eat a winter bed? Maybe that's why. Thank you both 💓
It's definitely the food we eat as Muslims when we break our fast. I don't know about you but in my culture the majority of our foods are exclusively carbs. No healthy fats, and a moderate amount of protein. I do what the speaker has talked about whilst also paying attention to the food I eat and lost weights, and built muscle. I normally do 16-19 of fast with 4-6 hrs of eating window 6 days per week. I hope that helps!
Just hearing all these talks on fasting and so many different types makes ne want to go back to ny roots and learn more about my culture and religion - Jainism where fasting is so central to all the "religious festivals and activities". And at some point all these types of fasts are done!! Even the belly burner one 😅 although not for the same motivation! * Have food only between sun rise and sun set * All festivals typically encourage water based fasting for 24 hours. Water should be boiled and cooled down. If not this, then people can try one time eating or two time eating. Nothing after sunset. * Avoid foods from within earth like onion, potatoes. * Eat extremely easy food during monsoons and fast more. * Behind every "rule" the reason is Ahimsa - non violence. This video is an eye opener - Go back to your roots!

As a Muslim who fasts the month of Ramadan, I find out it interested that she points out the longer someone fasts, the better it is for our health.
She meant not a dry fast in general as she drinks stuff during fasted state.
@@tat2384 I understood; I was thinking about no food part
As a Baha’i I think our annual period of fasting has value
It's the basis for ketosis. Even in Islam, we're meant to be careful about our eating. The thing is, a lot of us emotionally eat even though we know what's good for us. I haven't been able to do intermittent fasting after shahr Ramadhan due to sugar addiction and emotional eating. So there's various factors. Cortisol needs to be very low in a woman as well.
@@tat2384new research shows dry fast is even better. Look it up
Fasting has been the best thing I’ve ever done for my health & well being EVER!

Yeah, this is not for children
fasting isn't recommended for any one below 18. So yeah! you are right.
I did 17hr fast today (not intentionally) I’m just trying to go long periods without eating but I can honestly say, I feel so much better, mind, body aches and after I had a meal I haven’t eaten anything since.
True😢
Been fasting since January and this is the best I've felt in 3 years!
Same here with my nephew, I wish I new long time ago
Doctors only get 8 hrs of nutrition. They are too prideful to say they don’t know. Always seek out a functional Doctor.

Been doing 16-20 hrs most days.. i can say it certainly works. It helps if you cut out bread, rice and pastas etc and add extra healthy fats n protein..
You simply reduced calories and are getting the rewards, hardly rocket science
Ive been doing 16 to 24 hour fast. Exercise, drinking tea like hibiscus, green, and rosehip using pure stevia powder. I've lessened cravings for carbs and sweets.
Congratulations 🎉
Stevia isn't good
Stevia is an all natural sweetener compared to other sugar substitutes it’s better for you.

Mindy.

Just had to get that out. I did love this video, and found it incredibly informative and helpful.
Alternate Day Fasting the best decision I have made in 2022.
This movement is my secondary Bible! Amen Amen Amen
It's really hard but I miss water fasting. The longest I've gone was 10 days. By day 3 or 4, my mind felt so completely clear, and my body was calm and energized. I after thst fast I would do a 24 hour fast every Thursday. It was awesome. I miss it.😭
Why did you stop? Is it hard to get back on track once you stop?
@@blessedlife7260 IME it is harder to get back to longer fasting once you stop. I’d say it takes about a week of fasting, to get back to where you feel better and not hungry all the time.
@alisonbufarale3406 For me, the magic number was 4-5 days, and the bulk of my hunger was gone.

Sounds great and so interesting. Are you fully cured of ground disease?
This video sold me to your channel. Good job.

Fasting helped me realize how much I was eating and the triggers that caused my cravings. I didn’t lose a ton because of stressful times, but I didn’t gain, either! I still like giving my system a rest, not eating after 8:00 and delaying break fast.
Children and growing teens absolutely need the right food in the morning before school
You have been programmed to believe that.
I've done a 8 day fast and believe me when I tell you, it's God's super power bestowed upon us
Water fast ? 😊
Allah said in surat “Al Bakara” verse 184
“ and that ye fast is better for you if ye did but know”
الحمد لله على نعمة الاسلام ❤
Dr. Mindy is the best! ❤
AYTOPHAGY is a Greek word that means 'to eat itself'. In Greek it's pronounced 'afto' but in English it's auto.
I love Mindys picture on this ad, she is a beauty.
I would like to know more about your wife journey into fasting. I am struggling myself with thyroid and the medication doesn’t help.
Great vid just recent studies showed that gathering was most likely the most often food source and not hunting :)
And most likely those studies are wrong and influenced by vegan advocates to prove man only ate mostly plants which is a myth
I wonder if autofagia is working for autoimmune disease... I need to try 17h post. Thank you for that interview ❤
Great knowledge to publish. Missing: The acknowledgement that Yogis are practicing, teaching and writing this in detail for 5.000
Years 😉
Greay watch and listen. Believe this could change so many lives. It has given me renewed focus on the way I should eat.
I’m on a 80 hour fast. 18 hours done.
How do you keep yourself motivated and combat hunger?
Sounds like an 18 hour fast
Instead of mixing up 16/8…OMAD, I found it very convenient for me straight 14/10 seven days a week.
God’s people were required to fast so this is wisdom!
India has taught the world benefits of fasting for thousands years ago
This is fantastic thank you once again for more so enlightening information 🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😊😊

As eastern societies took up western model of lifestyle , we forgot the wisdom of the ancient knowledge. I think almost all eastern religions advocate fasts on a regular basis.
Jesus talks about fast too.
The Bible: Man shall not live by bread/food alone, but by every word that proceed from the mouth of God
Amen
Adoro a esta incredible mujer, agradezco a Dios Todo su conocimiento y mas aun por compartielo
I've heard this stuff on Dr. Berg channel, and indeed it is all very interesting. Am doing Intermitent fasting now and then, but can not bring myself to do 24 hrs Fasting yet, lol. We'll see.
I add pink Himalayan salt to my water for all my fasting work. It is a big help.
* Have food only between sun rise and sun set
* All festivals typically encourage water based fasting for 24 hours.
This was highly informative- great interview 👏🏽
